It sounds like there’s a couple of instances where the prosecution is suggesting JV sent JMV videos of Preston in distress or being mistreated as punishment because he was unhappy with him
Yes 100% getting this impression like texting him why are you in Salford then sending a video of him spinning in the chair that is definately retaliation and hes pissed off at the fact he is in Salford. Its coming across that way for sure!

With the next witness being called being the defence pathologist, does that suggest JMF is not taking the stand?
This is my thinking. I think if he was going to take the stand he would have been called next but maybe not. Interesting to see what their pathologist does come up with and then also interested to see the cross examination too

Wouldn't he be made to give evidence surely that should be the case the same with JV mum more so being an adopted child... we havent really heard much on JMF as much as I think hes guilty there is not much on him 🤔

You can’t make a defendant give evidence unfortunately. The burden of proof is on the prosecution. His silence (if he doesn’t take the stand to defend himself) will speak volumes though. If you were truly innocent why wouldn’t you try to defend yourself? Their lawyers can advise whether or not they should take the stand but ultimately it is their choice.

It looks really bad for JMF that he is still in a relationship with JV. Why would anyone want to be associated with that man after what he did to Preston! JMF defence will be he was always at work but he must have seen the bite on his bum.

Well JV threw him under the bus today by specifying that JMF changed a nappy the same day he took the photo of Preston’s very obviously harmed bottom.

I'm thinking of the jury again. I did jury duty once, and while there's no easy case, imo, it was thankfully a very different type of case to this. And I found - I think we all found - that stuff was swirling around in our brains after getting home in the evenings. It was hard to switch off from it. I actually cannot imagine trying to cope with the likes of this as a jury member.

I’ve always thought I’d enjoy jury duty but can you imagine having to do this kind of case? I think I’d just have to block out the details and pretend to be listening. Which is awful but I just don’t think I could cope with it without having a panic attack

It must be so hard for the jury as they are seeing all the photos/ videos of a child being harmed. It also seems like the reporting is skimming over some of the descriptions of Preston's injuries while the jury are hearing it all first hand.

I agree, we have to read between the lines with some of the reporting in relation to his injuries but I’m assuming the jury are hearing the explicit details.

I’ve been away this week so only just about managed to keep up on reading the live reports and this thread.

the pathologist going next is JV’s expert witness so it doesn’t mean JMF has refused (yet - I’m not convinced he will). Right now is all JV’s defence - JMF and any of his own experts/witnesses will go after JV’s has concluded.

I’m surprised the pathologist is being called given the amount of agreed facts - I can’t remember what was not in the agreed facts that they might want to present. Or maybe Nick Johnson has seen all the tit Ben Myers got for not calling Letby’s medical experts 🤪 Is it possible JV might have also demanded it, against all advice? Anyway it will be interesting to see why the pathologist is being called. I don’t know if the agreed facts are out of bounds or not and it will only be questioning on whatever is not agreed.

I have never followed a court case to this degree. I have read all the court updates so far and after today I feel more relieved that the jury will find him guilty but I’m still concerned that JMF will get away with it.

The fact he is still in relationship with it says it all but he was there at so many other points even if not the final act.

Also I feel like I should do something tangible, just reading about this and knowing I will follow what happens to that pair for the rest of their lives isn’t enough.

How can we improve the responses of SW and Drs etc, I’m not blaming them but maybe if things had been investigated more throughly it wouldn’t have ended in such tragedy and suffering for Preston.

Lessons learned isn’t good enough. Maybe nobody really expects such evil. Even though it makes me feel sick and upset, I just think that’s nothing to what that poor baby went through and I want them locked up for as long as possible.

I also wish there was something positive to contribute to in Preston’s memory, maybe that’s twee, and I’m going loopy but I can’t stop thinking about what that baby went through.

I also wish we could fast forward to sentencing as even though I’m sure they will be found guilty, I just need to know!
The crux of the matter is every single agency is overworked and understaffed and they are spinning plates until a tragedy happens. Then "lessons will be learnt" becomes the default answer. It's not enough money for boots on the ground.

I still don’t understand the concept of filming the seizure on Snapchat instead of just a normal video on his phone? Surely it takes longer to find and open snap chat than it does when most phones have a shortcut to the camera on the lock screen? (I will admit I don’t understand Snapchat at all!)
It is odd - but I've also had a government job where we sometimes required photos to be sent to us and some members of the public would genuinely send us screenshots of their open Snapchat camera, instead of just taking a normal photo on the camera app. Like it'd be totally dogshit quality and would have their message notifications and all the UI cluttering up what they were actually supposed to be taking a photo of, and they were like 'Yep, this one is perfect to send 🙂↕'. I had to genuinely send out multiple letters politely explaining to people how to take an actual photo on their phone.

So some people just don't use tech the way it's designed. But yeah, in this case, it's definitely odd and I suspect there's more to it than that

I think JV made reference earlier on in his evidence about what happened to Preston was closer to what his pathologist thinks, so I am assuming there is some sort of minute possibility these injuries were caused by (insert theory) but I imagine when cross examined that theory will fall apart or they’ll have to admit that in large they agree with the evidence presented by the prosecution pathologist.

You’ve got me thinking now about the order of the evidence, I wonder if JMF also has a separate pathologist? They never mentioned a number did they? I’d interpreted there being 2 but for the DNA experts they had 4 didn’t they? So I’m assuming 1 each and then an independent 4th.

Calling your defence expert that agrees the victim has suffered sexual abuse when they were in your sole care may just trump the plumber 🫥

Snapchat has a hidden “my eyes only” folder where you can save pics/videos you’ve taken with SC. It’s password protected and they’re not added to your camera roll. They could have been using it so they could keep the videos without them being in their general gallery. JV especially seems idiotic enough to think that would stay hidden.

Snapchat also allows those view once and then it self deletes images. And they're wiped from the Snapchat server after a month of so with no way to recover them. It's also harder to get a US company to comply with the request for disclosure, or at least it used to be.

JVs cross examination reads exactly like so many before him. He reminds me of Savannah Brockhill the most. But the ‘everyone else is mistaken’ and ‘I can remember the things that help me but can’t recall the things that don’t’ features with all of them - Brockhill, Letby, Erin Patterson.

I wonder if the jury can only find JMF guilty of causing and allowing if they find JV guilty of murder (or manslaughter). So the cause of death solely relies on JV?

I keep mentioning Brockhill but apart from the sexual abuse, I think there are a lot of similarities with the nature of cruelty and physical abuse (they too deprived Star of sleep), along with Frankie’s denial of not being aware of anything going on. I’ll have a quick look and see what defence she called and what judges directions were about the causing and allowing
