I had an obstetric consultant appointment today at 19 weeks because I had an emergency c-section previously. It was the biggest waste of time ever. I thought it would be full of information to make an informed choice about VBAC or elective section, but there was nothing. He simply sent me a link to a leaflet. He didn’t ask me if I had any questions, and just simply after briefly scanning through my notes, yeh you’re all good. Good for what, good to have a baby? The only positive was we were in and out of the hospital in 30 minutes so didn’t need to pay for the parking 🙄
I’ve got mine on Tuesday. It was supposed to be yesterday but someone managed to book me in for a clinic that doesn’t exist. I’m very remote, so when I phoned to double check (as my app was confusing me) they were like yea no, our clinic is on Tuesdays. So crisis adverted but I imagine my consultant meeting is going to be much the same.

How do you generally get the appointment notification for the first scan? I went for my first midwife appointment last week and she said I'd get an appointment through the post in the next couple of weeks for my scan at the hospital but I'm surprised they rely on the post given how rubbish Royal Mail can be sometimes.

I get text confirmations when I book with the local GP so surely it shouldn't be much different with a hospital? 🤔

I'm on baby three and have never not received an appointment in the post. I've never had texts for the scans, only the appointments with my consultants but that could be a my area thing. I woukd suggest if you havent received it by 10 or 11 weeks to call the midwife and she will call you back with the details but I wouldnt stress x

Do you have an app with all your notes on it ?

I get all my appointments through there first

Oh mine was just in the badger app. I’m in Scotland though so may depend where you are. I haven’t had any letters, I’ve just had to keep an eye on it. Then I called them when I realised that had booked me to the hospital 2.5h for the scan rather than the midwife led unit 30 mins away lol.
Can you give them a phone if it’s been a little while?

My ‘baby’ is 27 now but when I had my 12 week scan they were running a pilot scheme for nuchal fold measuring etc and I blithely agreed to it! Long story short I ended up having a CVS and almost miscarried as a result (and this was a long awaited ICSI/IVF pregnancy). His chromosomes were fine but he was born with congenital heart disease, and needed open heart surgery at 4 months old. Looking back I think I was so relieved I’d not miscarried I breezed through the heart stuff.
One thing I do remember is that when we went for the CVS results the nurse told us that many couples chose to end their pregnancy before getting the results, which was sad (her words) as more often than not there was nothing wrong with the baby. Try not to worry (easier said than done I know) and take each day as it comes. ❤
Thank you for replying.
You don’t happen to remember the measurement do you? Today has felt 57 hours long just waiting.

Back then we weren’t given measurements, or at least I wasn’t, sorry. I didn’t even have blood tests, and when I told my ICSI consultant she was shocked they’d allowed me to have a CVS without both bits of ‘evidence’, especially as it was already a high risk pregnancy.

Gross tmi waters/discharge talk (I am literally a woman obsessed with it, I realise that). But I feel like I’m going mental…

Got an amazing nights sleep last night, slept through from 10:30pm to 7:30am only woken by my toddler leaving for nursery.

Went to the loo and there was a large blob of yellow secretions. Thought hmm that’s a bit odd. I’ve had that a few times but not that amount and it normaonly just happens the once. Waited a minute, wiped again, same thing. Waited a few minutes, felt a bit of an ‘drip’ and then wiped again and this time it was blood tinged (only a little but clearly there). Fourth wipe was much less so I guess it all cleared out but FFS! I’ve taken a picture of the bits of toilet roll as I cannot bring myself to hold onto them but will have to go in. I had backache last night but it had gone away, now I’m feeling cramps around my pelvis again like I did a couple of weeks ago. I’m sulking in bed with a pad on eating the McDonalds breakfast my OH picked up contemplating why the duck my body hates me so much. I’ll call triage in a bit after my breakfast. I can’t mentally keep doing this

Definitely best to get it checked out! Enjoy your breakfast and let us know how you get on x

Thanks for your replies on my scan appointment question. I've had a look on the NHS app and it does say about my midwife appointment on there last week so maybe the scan appointment will appear on there when it's booked. I'm 11 weeks tomorrow so will chase if I still haven't received a letter or anything by the end of the week.

My midwife that I saw at my local GP surgery did seem a little bit here, there and everywhere - as she was taking all my info, she was writing it down on a paper form and then clumsily typing it into the system on her laptop and had to rectify a few mistakes along the way as though she was a bit of a technophobe with the system she was using. Didn't give me the greatest of reassurance!

I also got a text yesterday to say my bloods had revealed low iron and to go to the hospital to pick up a prescription. The hospital couldn't find it at first and then they said it was in last Friday and I should have been to pick it up then, but yesterday's NHS text was the first I'd heard of it! Can only imagine it's because my midwife said she only works 2/3 days a week so there's a bit of a delay on things, but yeah, doesn't fill me with complete confidence in these early days 😬

All fine again 🙃 which is obviously great and I'm not complaining but I am so fed up of being in pain/cramps/worrying about this all the time. Back on antibiotics and I've got another round of thrush treatment. The pelvic pressure is mad. She's definitely head down now too.

BabyWC was going mental on the monitor, absolutely moving the most she's ever done and HR shooting right up which worried us for a bit but settled down eventually. Got to the car on the way home and went... hang on, I drank that coffee from McDonalds before we came out didn't I? (Haven't had a 'proper' coffee in months!)

Had my results today. 1:770 of pateaus/Edwards and 1:10 of DS. Have my NIPT blood test tomorrow then the super long wait for that to come back.

Big hugs. FWIW, I know plenty of people with DS who live full, happy and accomplished lives. Edwards/Pataus is a bit different unfortunately :( Fingers crossed for you 3 xx

So the lady said I need to take my folder to every appointment but I’ve lost it. Just moved house and it’s carnage here. Got my 20 week scan tomorrow do you know what will happen if I don’t take it?

I have no idea why all trusts haven’t moved to virtual notes . I’m hopeless and would lose mine so I’m grateful for badgernotes

I imagine that even if you don’t bring your notes , all of your info will be on your medical file anyway so it should be fine ?? I can’t imagine they’ll refuse to scan you because of that

Badgernotes is awful though, I can't see anything on it and it locks me out most of the time! I'm between two trusts and I much prefer paper notes.

I loved having my paper notes last pregnancy 2 years ago. Now my area has moved to digital notes and it feels so impersonal.

Call first - i forgot my notes for a growth scan in a previous pregnancy and they said they couldnt scan me and I had to re arrange it. They fit me in for the very next day to be fair to them but it was a pain in the a. I always now leave my notes in the car so I can never forget - pain when I need to grab a pee bottle from them and do the walk of shame from the car to the house with it 😂
