Hi all,
Any tips when telling older children? My boys are 15 and 12 and I’m dreading telling them, I’m 12 weeks today and scan on Monday so planning on telling them after. I don’t live with my partner yet so they are used to it just being the 3 of us and I think they’ll hate me 🥺

I was 12 when my Mum got pregnant with my youngest sibling, and even though the thought of my parents having sex was grim, I was secretly SO excited!

I’m 18 weeks now — I can’t believe it. The Snüz pillow is my best friend — cuddling it as we speak! Has anyone ever had to go for a uterine artery Doppler? I had pre-eclampsia last time.

Christ, what a couple of weeks!

My boobs suddenly decided at the start of last week to start leaking, that horrible tingly let down feeling  I'm sure that doing thing too early to 'ease' labour (collecting colostrum, drinking RLT) had a hand in toddler arriving early so that wasn't a great sign.

Last weekend decided I was taking my husband and toddler to the garden centre, mooched around for a bit and thought mmm my back hurts, best have a cup of tea & cake and sit down, that'll help. Then I started getting braxton hicks whilst we were having our cake. Then the period pains started. Went to the supermarket to do a shop as we had no food in thinking oh it'll stop eventually. They did not stop. For 6 hours. Coming in waves, on and off, had to stop in the supermarket periodically to breathe because they were getting worse. Back ache, bump ache, pelvic ache, cramps, the whole shebang.

OH eventually agreed that this was not normal and called his mum over (as my parents were at the theatre and unreachable), she took an hour to get there. Then when she arrived, OH decided he wanted to put the dishwasher on first. All the while I'm thinking jesus duck what if this is early labour, I'm only 31+5...

Get to triage, CTG showed contractions but no cervical changes and the early labour swab was negative (amazing tech, that!) so we got sent home with orders of paracetamol and a hot water bottle/warm bath if it happens again, but to come back if any signs of water loss or repeated pains that didn't go away with paracetamol.

Baby still doesn't move a huge amount and it's so tough to tell whether she has wiggled around much or if she's just comfy cosy in one place. I find audibly saying to my husband "if she doesn't move in the next 45 minutes I'm calling triage" spooks her into giving me a good roll...

What prams have you all got / are looking at ?

this is our third baby but we didn’t really anticipate we’d have a third so after our daughter was born we sold basically all our baby stuff . We had a Ickle Bubba which was fine for our first two but really was all we could afford

but this time my dear Granny who is 92 has offered to pay for our pram . She said she never thought she’d get to see 1 great grandchild , let alone 3 , and is giving us £1000 towards our pram . Which is amazing !!!

I’ve always dreamed of having a Silver Cross and I think the Cove looks suitable for what we need but I’m just not sure . I’m only 13 weeks so have plenty of time to decide I suppose . But I’m just curious to see what everyone else has opted for and what you recommend ?
I've got a really horrible Cosatto that I insisted on having with my first that my OH is refusing to replace 😐 yes, I am sulking about this. (It cost us £1200 as a travel system and is one of the worst things I've ever bought... on one of our first walks out with toddler when he was a newborn one of the front wheels spontaneously fell off, the fabric stitching was awful, it is so heavy, the basket space is tit, the bassinet stopped clicking in properly for a bit, we had it sent back for repair about 4 times until toddler was big enough for an umbrella style stroller and we gave up with it).

I had an obstetric consultant appointment today at 19 weeks because I had an emergency c-section previously. It was the biggest waste of time ever. I thought it would be full of information to make an informed choice about VBAC or elective section, but there was nothing. He simply sent me a link to a leaflet. He didn’t ask me if I had any questions, and just simply after briefly scanning through my notes, yeh you’re all good. Good for what, good to have a baby? The only positive was we were in and out of the hospital in 30 minutes so didn’t need to pay for the parking 🙄

You have to pay for hospital parking?!

That's absolutely disgusting! No wonder people are treating ambulances like taxi's more and more, I bet a lot can't afford the fee, especially with A&E wait times ❤

I’m in Cambridgeshire and our parking is £2.50 each half hour then £18.50 for more than 7 hours. Bonkers and awful.

I’m in London and we don’t even have parking at the hospital I’m with. It’s street parking which is about £8 an hour with a two hour maximum parking time. I usually get the bus to appointments! With my first baby, my husband got taxis back and forth until we got discharged and he came with the car.

Small perk of working for a hospital with good staff parking (unlike my old trust) is I don’t pay for parking!

Pregnancy insomnia can do one. I‘m absolutely shattered by 9pm, wake up for a wee at 2am every night without fail and then my mind decides it’s actually 2pm. I hate being tired and not being able to sleep so much.

I'm totally with you. I have it too and the only somewhat decent stretch of sleep I get these days is 4-7am. I despise nights at the moment as it feels like I'm living another day. I find it torturous.

Does anyone have any experience with a high NT measurement?
Had my 12 week scan yesterday and it’s measuring at 4.4 with higher than 3.5 being high risk. Waiting for the bloods to come back then the NIPT bloods. Petrified and time is going so slow, don’t know how I’ll manage weeks of waiting 🥺

Last night I woke up at 2am and didn’t get back to sleep until gone 4:30am. Luckily today is my first proper day of mat leave so I’m just having a chill morning but I had to call in sick a few times before now because I just function so poorly on low sleep.

Gross, not related -
I am so paranoid about my waters going early again, I spend half my day in the toilet checking to see if anything is dripping  I‘ve definitely had an increase in discharge but it still seems quite sticky which I don’t remember it being when my waters went early last time so I think I’m just getting into my head. It’s exhausting too!

Hey, I don’t want to worry you and I’ve seen other people have positive stories despite a high NT! But my previous pregnancy resulted in a TFMR after having a high NT reading. The NIPT bloods came back clear so I then had a CVS which we discovered our baby had a rare genetic condition. At the time however I saw so many positive stories where nothing came of it and baby was healthy. Have you been referred to fetal medicine?

Thanks for you reply. Yeah I’ve been referred but not sure how long I’ll wait to hear anything. Was a lot of information all of a sudden .

Yes it was for me too, if it’s like mine then you should hear from them fairly quickly! Good luck I hope things work out positively for you

My ‘baby’ is 27 now but when I had my 12 week scan they were running a pilot scheme for nuchal fold measuring etc and I blithely agreed to it! Long story short I ended up having a CVS and almost miscarried as a result (and this was a long awaited ICSI/IVF pregnancy). His chromosomes were fine but he was born with congenital heart disease, and needed open heart surgery at 4 months old. Looking back I think I was so relieved I’d not miscarried I breezed through the heart stuff.
One thing I do remember is that when we went for the CVS results the nurse told us that many couples chose to end their pregnancy before getting the results, which was sad (her words) as more often than not there was nothing wrong with the baby. Try not to worry (easier said than done I know) and take each day as it comes. ❤
