Hi everyone, very excited to be joining you on here. First test the other day came out as positive and estimates are coming out about 5 1/2 weeks.

Just me and my husband know, as way too early, I don't think I'll believe it until I speak to the midwife team. I am a little bit nervous as I live in a very remote place in Scotland and right now all our papers have been full with how bad the maternity services are. Our closest proper hospital (with a maternity unit) is a 2.5h drive away 😬

However no point worrying about something I can't change. I can't wait to tell my friends as one is a obs and gynae doctor. She's going to be sick of me messaging her lol.

I am a little bit worried as I have a bit of cramping and (tmi) brown spotting. However as it's so early I doubt there would be anything they can do. I keep doing tests to feel better and the spotting has calmed down. Looking to call the GP tomorrow and get booked in for an appointment.

Obviously I have loads of trips planned and events that I will be "not drinking for lent" at. However that excuse only lasts so long lol!

Hiya! Congratulations ☺. Midway through my pregnancy my Scottish hospital that I gave birth in was all over the news for how ‘awful’ maternity care was and how Health Improvement Scotland had been in twice and it was crap twice etc. Not what I wanted to hear at all. I read the report and yes, there were places where there was room for improvement but it wasn’t as the local rags would have you believe. I also spoke to someone I trust who works in SG in Health and has worked in NHS Scotland and she explained that these reports don’t come out instantly so they are a snapshot of a point in time. In the end, when it really mattered, I got the care I needed. I had an unexpected complication at 36 weeks and everything moved really quickly and smoothly for me and everyone was reassuring. There was then a small birth complication and, again, everything sprang into place exactly as you’d want it to to make it all ok. It wasn’t perfect and it was a bit chaotic and messy and people in the NHS are under a tonne of pressure, but they are really good at what they do and the stuff that mattered went ok, better than ok. I think the remote areas have their own protocols in place, if you are an islander you’re encouraged to come to the mainland ahead of your due date, for example.

Oh completely. I remember randomly taking tests every now and then because I wasn’t even sure it was real!
I’m def still in the “not real” phase. I’ve forced myself not to take any more pregnancy tests, though, as I don’t need to add anything else to my list of things to obsess over. 😆

I’m now wondering what I can bulk cook. I’m 7 weeks, ffs.

Ugh I'm feeling left out at work. I am due in June and only came back from the first maternity leave in November so I understand that I've not had much time to really get back into things nor is is there any point in getting stuck into big things only to leave again but I just don't like being left out; it's not on purpose as I am getting work but just the smaller and easier stuff. I also worry that I will be even further behind once I'm back from second mat leave. Ironically I never thought I would care about this stuff after having babies but I feel the opposite. I really value my work and career now.

I am still in the not real phase at almost 36 weeks with a C section scheduled next week 🤣
Has anyone any experience with the steroid shots for baby’s lungs if born before 37 weeks?

Baby Tagliatelle is a thing. ❤

I do have a small bleed, though, so gotta be on my best behaviour for the next little bit.

Have you been told you'll need it? I had a planned c section at 36+5 and nobody ever mentioned it to me! I did wonder about it at the time though and pretty sure I read something about them not bothering after 35/36 weeks? It could be different everywhere though🤷‍♀️ hope all goes well for next week ahh!

Yep, it’s policy here to offer it up to 37 weeks, even 37+0/37+1. I will be 36+5, still not sure if I will do it as drawbacks might outweigh the benefits, I am very much for every other intervention but the consultant won’t give a clear opinion or answer and the risks of low blood sugar at birth and then autism/ neurodevelopmental issues later on seem so scary! But then so does a baby needing to go to NICU for breathing help without them. Genuinely no idea what to do! Evidence is inconclusive either way

I have made it to 22 weeks after my pprom 2 weeks ago. I had put myself on basically bedrest and hardly moving apart to pee and make food. Started to feel baby really kick which is great but wow the heartburn 😭😭😭

6+3 and don't have any symptoms just lots of positive tests 🤦🏼‍♀️
I had no symptoms until about 14 weeks where I felt hungover for a few weeks. Then I got heartburn. I always wanted to be sick to feel it was real but I’m grateful now!

I am almost 22 weeks as well! Started getting a bit of heartburn yesterday and thought surely it's too early for that, so glad I'm not alone! I'm sure it didn't start until much later with my first. Better stock up on the Rennie's!

I’m on medication for my waters going and can’t take anything for heartburn 2 hours before or after 😰 it’s like full blown lava in my chest

Eeeeee amazing! Thinking of you x
Thank you!

Big fan of mini pasta here! Congratulations, be very kind to yourself. Will keep everything crossed for you.
Thanks; maybe I’ll start calling the babe Pastina, like the tiny soup pasta. 😝

And if by being kind to myself, you mean mainlining my second McDonalds of the day because I can literally feel the life returning to me as I eat piping hot salty fries and a chicken Big Mac… then, yes, I’m being incredible to myself.

Seriously, though, it’s like it’s the only meal that gives me the boost I need at the moment. I’m usually into salad and stuff but the thought of veg is grim. I keep reading all this stuff about slow-release, whole grain carbs and genuinely are these people living in a parallel universe?!

My diet for pregnancy is beige on beige. Everything tastes meh and anything is better than nothing in my eyes 🤣

I didn’t really have any symptoms either - just really sore boobs and some minimal nausea for a couple of weeks between 8-10 weeks. Never had heartburn or anything later either. Would have been textbook had my blood pressure not shot up literally at 39 weeks!
