As first time parents who got the shock of our lives with a teeny Velcro baby, everything I prepped that could be eaten one handed whilst we held the baby was ideal. I remember my husband getting all fancy and making fajitas and I was like ‘how am I supposed to eat these?!’ But you’ll be a pro at this point haha.
Yeah my criteria is things that can be eaten with one hand or easily reheated if they go cold 🤣🤣

On my final week of work this week which doe not even feel real !!
I've booked 2 weeks of annual leave as they wouldn't let me carry over so much of my leave to the end of my maternity, so I've booked up until my due date - currently 37 + 2, so I'll be 38 (ish) weeks when I finish and it's gone so bloody quick!

I've not started drinking any raspberry leaf tea or doing any specific things to encourage labour ... am I being silly?
i didn't do anything to encourage labour last time other than going on long walks. but then baby did end up being 9 days late... maybe i should have drank the tea 😂

I'm just so unsure on whether to do so or not as I know she'll come when ready ... but then again I don't know if I want to be over !!

How did you cope?

it didn't bother me actually. i was induced at 41 weeks but honestly could have gone on longer if they'd let me, i loved pregnancy. it probably helped that i gave birth in april so it wasn't hot at all, i might have thought differently if we were mid-heatwave!

Makes me feel a lot better you saying that, everyone I have spoke to has nothing positive to say about inductions at all! I'm just not looking forward to another heatwave being preggo ... 😂🥲

38 weeks today and the “are you in labour yet” messages have begun 😬 did anyone else find their mum a bit insufferable or am I just a miserable cow?

My mum uses the baby’s name SO much in conversation that I think I now hate it and he’s not even born. I miss one video call because i’m walking the dog and I get a frantic voice note of “if you’re in labour you HAVE to tell me”. I’m scared of how overbearing she’s going to be, and it sounds awful because I know she’s excited, but it’s taking away from my excitement to have someone so in your face about it all the time.

My mum is exactly like this, it makes me dread telling her any time I’ve been pregnant (this is our third and nobody knows yet). She took the huff with us after my second son was born via elective c-section because my husband didn’t call her immediately after to let her know he was born etc. Sorry but I think he was a bit busy helping me with recovery/taking care of the baby ffs. Calling anyone wasn’t our highest priority at that moment. She’s such a critical pain in the a too, I never told her chosen baby names until my kids were born either because she would’ve just put me right off them by being judgemental. MIL is the opposite and just happy to hear the news/doesn’t overly involve herself which I prefer tbh (although she’s got a whole lot of other issues I won’t get into).

I had my booking appointment with the midwife today and it all went well despite me not feeling so great the last few days mentally and going in sort of dreading it. Midwife was lovely and she’ll be the one I see throughout my pregnancy (last two times it was a different person almost every appointment). I have the date for my first scan in two weeks which has made us both really excited/nervous. It’s starting to feel real and I’m trying to prepare myself for telling our boys the news once that’s done.

I’ve been induced twice and both were fine ! Don’t let horror stories scare you ! My first one did end in an emergency c section because my son was massive , and also had his arm above his head so I just could not push him out . He was getting distressed so they whipped him out but it wasn’t traumatic at all . The induction itself was was fine !

Then my daughter I was induced early because I had pre eclampsia ! It was honestly a really relaxing induction and I managed to have a VBAC !

This time I’m just going with the flow 🤣 I have a consultant appointment next week I assume to talk about my birth preferences

But lots of positive induction stories exist too 🩷

my induction wasn’t actually positive at all but i won’t go into that 😂 my complications weren’t actually caused by being induced to be fair i had some rare things happen

Also not in the positive induction story camp with my first 🫣 but won’t scare anybody with the details and glad to hear that it can and does go right for others ❤

My MIL was like this with my first so I really wanted to just say the month I was due this time and not the date, my husband gave her the date sadly but he got it 1 day wrong so I guess that’s something 😂 she won’t bother with me throughout the rest of the pregnancy, it pisses me off!

29 weeks now, if I lay on my back for a few minutes or in the bath (don’t ever sleep on my back) I feel like I can’t breathe- is this normal?

Yes it’s normal! I think the weight of the bump compresses an artery or something which can make you short of breath. I’m currently laying awkwardly on my side the sofa because I thought I was being suffocated

my nanny was like this last time. this time i’m having an elective c-section and the only person we’re telling the date to (other than my son’s nursery for emergency contact reasons) is my dad

I’m 19 weeks now and it’s going so fast! I thought because I found out super early at 4 weeks it would drag, but so far it’s flying by.
Has anybody had an elective c-section and can share their story? I’m thinking of heading down that route, but maybe 10% of me is considering trying a natural birth.

I had an elective with my second child, after an emergency c-section under general anaesthesia with my first. It was a dream tbh. I felt more in control, everything was calm and went smoothly. I had to go in for a pre-op appointment a few days before the elective where they talked me through things, checked my obs and gave me antacids to take before the surgery. I wasn’t allowed to eat after midnight the night before and had to be at the hospital for 7.30am the day of the surgery.

We got there and had a bed in the ward. I had a gown to put on and the compression stockings. There was someone else before us and I was taken down for about 10.30am. My husband had to wait outside (in his scrubs 😂) while they gave me the spinal etc but once that was done he was let straight in and with me the whole time. Baby was born at 11am exactly, I never felt any pain just lots of weird tugging and little bit of pressure but they had made sure I was numb completely before the op. They checked baby over/did his weight etc and he spent the rest of the time on my chest having skin-to-skin. The spinal did make me very shaky afterwards and after being stitched back up they took me to the recovery bay. I did throw up a couple of times there into a sick bowl but was told this was due to the anaesthetic so my husband got to eat my coveted tea and toast. 😂 😢

Other than that I was fine, I was up on my feet by the evening and managing pretty much all of baby’s care by myself. We were allowed home the next afternoon after I’d passed urine by myself. The staff were great throughout, very calming and reassuring as I was obviously nervous going in but it turned out to be a very positive experience for me. I’ll be doing it again with this baby when the time comes.

this is lovely to read. i had an emergency c-section with my first (luckily not under GA, but apparently that was only because i already had an epidural in) and it was horrific. i had a bandl's ring, a uterine inversion and haemorrhaged. i'm not even being given the option for VBAC this time because they can't risk me going into labour naturally, and i'm alright with that as frankly i cannot go through that trauma again. i am still nervous about having another c-section though, so it's nice to read that a much calmer environment makes so much difference.
