Hi 👋 I’m jumping in here. I’m currently 8wks 1day and my anxiety is through the roof. I went for a reassurance scan on Monday which measured me at 7wks 4 days, saw heartbeat etc so was absolutely over the moon. I’m struggling so much with panicking about eating the wrong thing, I’m googling everything and obsessing it’s such a lonely feeling because hardly anyone knows just now so I don’t have my friends who have had kids in the last few years to speak to as I’m scared to tell people in case I have to tell them something bad has happened. Was even wary to join on here but I just need to vent. I had a MC in 2023 and have just been unable to enjoy any of this first trimester.
You aren’t alone on the worrying I think all of us will have had some stage of worrying

Food wise I’d take it with a pinch of salt if you stick to your usual food you’d be fine - I personally have had some sushi and steak but from the same places I’ve always had it from

Try to not panic and get too stressed but I know what you mean I was poorly the fists trimester with hospital visits and then the flu and you do worry
Currently 18 weeks with a baby girl measuring perfect 🩷

Congratulations 💗 and thank you for your reply.

I’m driving my partner mental with my googling and being overly cautious 😂 I am obviously so happy to be pregnant, it’s taken the guts of a year to get back to this position so I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I possibly can.

He's just wrecking my head as he's Just hungry 24/7 and thinks I should be eating the same amounts as him. I eat small portions of most of the food I'm preparing..
He's just annoying me 😭
Ahhh, oh no, then don't worry. I thought you were barely eating, my bad. Keep eating as you feel like. I could not eat my usual portions around 8-14 weeks, was usually eating half the usual each time but more times a day.

This may be sensitive for some people but is anyone tracking their calories?
I’ve always been into the gym etc and I am still going now 5 x a week (blaze, prenatal reformer Pilates, lower body, upper body and a stretch workout) but I am honestly starving!
I’ve increased my calories to around 1800 (5ft9, weighed 68kg prior) but I’m waking up in the night by my stomach rumbling and this morning I feel beyond hungry!

Is anyone else tracking or did you increase more than this?

Fair play for keeping up with the gym. I did my first pregnancy and it does help in the long run.
With calories I didn't really count but apparently in your second trimester you need 300 additional from your maintance and then for third trimester 500 cals. Honestly I wouldn't go starving yourself and I did find I used to be fixated on my hunger. I wouldn't think it would be any harm to increase your calories especially given your high level of activity.

Not religiously, but I am definitely keeping on top of watching my intake and keeping active. I'm prone to gaining weight very easily (and I've always had to be careful) and I'm aware of the potential impacts of that. So far I'm tracking around average for pregnancy weight gain. I've gained just over a stone at nearly 30 weeks.

I’m not tracking at all and I’m not remotely a fitness girlie, but I’ve absolutely needed more food than usual, and will start to feel genuinely quite ill if I don’t eat little and often. I have tried to err on the side of healthier snacks (almonds, dried cranberries and sultanas being one, cashews or pistachios being another, or rice cakes) but that’s been even harder recently when I open my lunch box of snacks and turn my nose up at everything!

I’m not actually tracking but do keep an eye on my general intake plus weigh myself every few weeks. So far I’ve gained 10kg at 36 weeks (started at 59kg, 5ft7 ish. Now 69.2kg).

I eat if I’m hungry but don’t allow myself to fall into the “I’m pregnant so can eat whatever” mindset. I did this with my 1st (now expecting no4) and gained over 20kg which I struggled to shift after. I have a history of disordered esp in the last few years so doing it like this helps me feel in control without too much pressure. Hope that helps!

Is anyone else absolutely ravenous? Been out for breakfast with my fella, then went to m&s and bought so many hot cross buns, came home and demolished 3 of them 💀 constantly eating keeps the sickness at bay for now! All the scan photos are so lovely to see, I’m tempted to book an early private one myself 🙈

Yes!!! I’m constantly hungry!! A lot of stuff doesn’t sound particularly appealing to me though 😂if I could just eat satsumas and spaghetti all day I would be fine. I had to buy cereal yesterday because my usual fruit at breakfast just isn’t cutting it. I had a bowl this morning and was hungry an hour later.

Yes, it’s hunger on a scale I’ve never experienced before. I feel so ill if I don’t eat really frequently, it feels so melodramatic!

I went for a private scan at what turned out to be about 6 weeks (thought I was about 7 at the time). JuniorDragName was just a small blobby smudge with a heartbeat but it was still an amazing experience to see them!

It is mad isn’t it! I eat and then 5 mins later I’m starving again! Aw I’m approx 5+2 I think, I’m tempted to book a scan for around 8 weeks! I was 17 when I had my first and only had the nhs scans! Feels so long until 12 weeks I don’t know how I coped first time round, I’m super anxious to know that everything is ok x

Regarding foods I found it helpful to understand why I couldn’t have things, what the specific risk was. So foods that are prone to causing food poisoning I was just cautious to only have from trusted places, properly prepared etc. Things that were actually harmful for development I pretty much avoided altogether. Vitamin A skin care and supplements too.
Unless you regularly eat Pate, Stilton, Steak tartar, tuna daily etc it shouldn't affect you too much.
Over the years I've had food poisoning from a Maccy's salad, an airport cheese and ham sandwich and a virgin trains breakfast bap so to me following food hygiene on storage and reheating temperatures, washing salad etc is paramount more than the food item itself.

Seconding this ^
I actually had food poisoning TWICE in pregnancy which was ridiculously unlucky (from a McDonald’s and a Chinese) and of course the risk is there but me (and baby) were absolutely fine and actually no one (midwives or doctors) were actually majorly concerned at the time as long as I kept hydrated and baby was moving well. Of course that’s not to say eat what you like with reckless abandon but please try not to worry so much that it takes the enjoyment of your pregnancy away 🩷

I don't count calories, I eat as I feel like and try to keep healthy stuff around. I weigh myself a couple times a week.
My main concern is that I had a bad backpain couple years ago and was told exercise and drop weight to help. I only exercised, so I'm watching my weight mainly to keep my back as healthy as possible.

Do people keep asking you what are you going to name the baby? I'm reluctant to share the gender because the name question comes right after.

Yes i was asked this all of the time both pregnancies. The only person (apart from my husband) who knew my babies names before they evacuated the premises was my mum everyone else wasnt told because i couldnt be arsed with their unwanted opinions because people are arseholes and always have something to say
