Ok so my self pity party this evening is how horrid I feel because of the feeling uncomfortably full because I've been eating all day because I am CONSTANTLY hungry and yet still feeling irrationally hungry and also feeling sick, and feeling teary because I feel so awful and would like to stop feeling both hungry and like I've just had Christmas dinner

If anybody found any sort of solution to this I'm all ears, I'm going to try more little and often tomorrow instead of just ... Often

Disappointed to say I caved on the vaping (still 0%) after 24 hours.
I have complex PTSD, which has been very stabilised, but my mental state just WENT this morning and I woke up in such a state and had a full dissociative episode which was very distressing

I was having trauma therapy but we agreed I was good to be without it but I've emailed her again to start up again (she said most people come back when they fall pregnant). And I'll raise it with the GP on Weds.
All of these things work on a harm reduction spectrum. Using a 0% nicotine vape is the penultimate step of the ‘best behaviour’ end of the spectrum, with total abstinence from everything being the ideal. But you know what, there are so many other things that are definitely a lot more harmful so don’t beat yourself up about this. There might be a perinatal mental health team in your health board area and it would be the midwives that would complete a referral, if it is needed. I’ve been told if I feel my mood slipping I call them and they complete the referral based on all my booking in stuff. But some women might need the support from the very start and that’s totally ok! Just you make sure you are being really kind to yourself right now. The hormone changes are a bit of a trip all by themselves.

I have a mentor at work and I told her I was pregnant and she was extremely helpful in talking to me about succession planning timescales etc and it just gave me this massive realisation that I am actually pregnant and I had this huge internal freak out 🤣

Do you know what the pregnancy safe antihistamines are? I've read loratadine is supposed to be ok. Definitely need to get prepped for hayfever season had a never ending cold anyway 😂
I take loratadine and cetirizine, both are fine in pregnancy

you do but BA want one regardless of trimester which is a bit annoying… I flew Jet2 and Tui in pregnancy and it was after the 27/28th week they needed a letter. We had almost booked BA flights and I had been looking at that too! I guess if you don’t LOOK pregnant yet? You might not be asked? (I forget how many weeks you are already). But there’s always the chance they guess or can see and don’t allow you to fly.
I know and I’m so bad at lying 🙈😂 I spoke to my drs surgery and they can do one but costs £38. Which is fine. If annoying.

That’s me! I think it is actually called ‘so, you’re going to be a Dad’ and he got it off Amazon. He does seem able to tell me about what is happening to me week to week, today he announced I should start taking iron tablets 🤣. But all joking aside, I think it’s helped demystify pregnancy for him, so we’d recommend!
My husband bought this book. It’s a good read and he’ll tell me bits and bobs when he reads it before bed. I already know most of it but I pretend it’s super interesting and I’ve never heard about pregnancy before 🤣 there’s a good bit about what to buy in prep for a newborn like the number of nappies, baby grows etc
I love that he’s getting ready and keen to cover all bases as a new dad.
It’s very sweet 💓

Is anyone else absolutely ravenous? Been out for breakfast with my fella, then went to m&s and bought so many hot cross buns, came home and demolished 3 of them 💀 constantly eating keeps the sickness at bay for now! All the scan photos are so lovely to see, I’m tempted to book an early private one myself 🙈

Hi I’m so so scared. I tested positive this morning which is when AF was due and my line is so weak! I’m just over a miscarriage and d and c at Christmas. Pls don’t judge me but I really thought I was out and I drank wine last night. I’m now absolutely terrified and feeling so guilty. Can anyone comment on my line? I also feel so so guilty for the alcohol. My brother is very sick in hospital and it was just a lot on me
My first positive was a faint line too, on or around the day my period was due. I am pretty sure I had some alcohol in the days before getting my positive result. The general consensus is it’s fine, it’s super early, and as long as you don’t drink now, all is well. I think the same happens to a lot of women.

Has anyone done any of the free baby academy classes? I keep getting ads on insta but want to know if theyre any good
I did all the free ones with my first baby (2023), they probably haven’t changed much ? I found some bits of the information useful and they do try to sell you the other courses throughout and I think I had an email or 2 after to try sell but I’d say the free ones are semi worth it if it’s your first baby?

I'm either ravenous or completely uncomfortably full at the moment. It's like being on an all inclusive but I'm in the office
Yep, this is the best description 🤣 (minus the free booze) my first trimester was insane I literally ate all day and nothing satisfied me.
I was a bit too skinny when I conceived so I think it was my body telling me to get on with it, lay down some fat and grow a baby.
I thought I’d hate putting on weight but I’m quite enjoying my tits and arse being bigger 🤣

I’m really glad you spoke up. I hate how some staff speak about BMI! I had a similar experience but the opposite way I guess - a sonographer said to a trainee something along the lines of how much easier it was to scan me compared to the previous woman because I was so ‘lovely and slim’. I was literally in the depths of my eating disorder and having a scan as part of our fertility investigations so it wasn’t the compliment she thought it was!
that’s really shocking! Weirdly she said nothing to me verbally about my weight being an issue. I am probably kind of relieved about that because she had quite an abrupt manner and it would have upset me, but given that she had me move around quote a lot to try and turn the baby, jabbed me really hard in the abdomen to get the baby to turn and I could see for myself on the screen the bubba was not playing ball, it was not solely down to my BMI. I work with people who have experienced trauma and who need a psychologically informed approach and there was none of that in the appointment. It’s a miracle baby for us and we’re anxious older parents. Doesn’t mean we have some god given right to extra time to get screening or anything like that but a gentle approach, explanation of what’s happening, reassurance that sometimes the babies just aren’t up for it but that it’s not the end of the world would have gone a long way to not have me cry my way back home. Hopefully the same won’t happen to other future parents.

Is anyone else suffering with hayfever? My husband went to the pharmacy for me today but they said I’d need to make a GP appointment. NHS website though says Loratadine is ok to use during pregnancy. My docs is a nightmare for booking routine appointments so I’m tempted to just go ahead and buy the Loratadine.
Loratadine and ceritizine are pregnancy safe. Budesonide nasal sprays are safe as well.

I’m nearly 6 weeks and I don’t feel anything at all. I know it could all hit me yet but I don’t feel any cramps, stretching, nausea, sore boobs, nothing! Even did a pregnancy test to see if I am indeed actually pregnant or did I dream the whole thing, and I very much still am 😆 I just feel nothing at all, even my murderous mood has subsided. I feel, grand? Hitting the hay a little earlier alright but that’s about it. Trying to remember what I felt this early last time and nothing is standing out so I’m guessing I didn’t feel much then either. I know too if and when I do start to feel things I’ll be paranoid then too. There really is no let up with the anxiety is there 😆

I had a private scan on Monday, measuring 10 weeks 3 days, saw heartbeat etc. The woman doing the scan said that baby looked fine but I’m now totally over analysing the scan photo as the baby’s forehead looks massive!! Would a private scan necessarily tell you if anything looked concerning? Did anyone else have a scan around this time and think the baby’s head looked huge? 😂 got my 12 week scan in a couple of weeks so trying to relax until then but it’s hard!
I had a private scan at 9 weeks with my first and looking at his head on that it looked slightly bigger than the rest of him 😂
I think they just balance out and start to look a bit more baby like by 12 weeks so I wouldn’t worry too much !

my mum had me at 38 and I turned out fine, lots of women are having babies into their 40s now - I’m sure there’s a few of us on this thread that are older mums.
I second this.

I had my son at 30 and now have a newborn at 38 😊
Id had a scanty period followed by two missed ones, straight away my lovely female GP went to peri menopause she explained she would do a blood test which would include checking my FSH levels if things hadn't put themselves right within the next three months.

I remember thinking shit ok I'm peri and this is how it all starts now I feel daft, I even asked if it can affect your bladder, yes she said, then got me up on the examination table and did an internal, she asked me lots of gentle questions about how was mum life and my son (I was genuinly oblivious lol)
I was then given a sample bottle and told she'd give me a quick call back that afternoon .....
I thought my body was one and done and as I'd been having a bad time generally month on month through a fibroid it was all very unexpected but as they say it just goes to show x

If it reassures anyone, I had an incredibly positive birthing experience with Baby Lava. I leaned on hypnobirthing and yoga breathing techniques and squeezed a comb when I felt contractions in the 3-7cm bit. After that I got in the pool which was amazing. Used gas and air too which helped. I had some first degree tearing and also found gas and air helpful for that when they were stitching me too. Only bit that wasn’t great was they had to pop my waters annd they ended up giving Baby Lava a scar on his head :( Obviously it hurt giving birth but no trauma. I know I am very lucky in this respect but just as an alternative story from what you can hear from friends and friends of friends lol.

We’ve just booked our early scan for Saturday. So nervous now 😭 I’ll be just over 8 weeks. Some days I think it’s ok others I’m convinced it will be another missed miscarriage.

Got the chance to visit a pool/jacuzzi/steam room/sauna today. 15 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Not a big fan of a sauna anyway so rarely spend more than 5-10 mins at a time but are the jacuzzi and steam room definitely out? Or could I just have a few mins in each, stay hydrated, pay attention to my body etc? The steam room has eucalyptus apparently and I’ve had manky gunked up sinuses from v. early on in pregnancy so that sounds lovely, even for a short period.

Feel like a selfish twat for even asking but you cannae be telling me Scandinavian women avoid the sauna when pregnant, lol. This is ‘don’t eat brie and smoked salmon’ all over again (I’ve eaten neither but I am practically dreaming about brie, I’m not going to lie) If needs be, me and my newly purchased (via Vinted) maternity swimsuit (which is mostly for my newly acquired extra fat from all the snacking than a bump just yet!) will just stick to some swimming and I won’t even pout about it.
Not medical/expert advice, but my understanding is that you’re told to avoid them because it’s harder to regulate your temperature/blood pressure while pregnant, so as long as you listen to your body I wouldn’t worry too much. I haven’t had access to a spa while pregnant but absolutely would have had a few minutes in a steam room if I did!
