Sorry, I came across really unsympathetic to you and that I really didn’t mean that. I keep making the mistake of telling my own mum stuff then regretting it. I’m sorry you’re going through this because that’s totally rubbish, but the idea that everyone else can shove it up their arse still stands!
No not at all. Thank you, I needed to hear this. You’re absolutely right.
my friends have been so supportive and said the same thing.
There’s something about your own mum and older sister where they think they can dish out opinions and not give a shit about how it makes me feel

Got the chance to visit a pool/jacuzzi/steam room/sauna today. 15 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Not a big fan of a sauna anyway so rarely spend more than 5-10 mins at a time but are the jacuzzi and steam room definitely out? Or could I just have a few mins in each, stay hydrated, pay attention to my body etc? The steam room has eucalyptus apparently and I’ve had manky gunked up sinuses from v. early on in pregnancy so that sounds lovely, even for a short period.

Feel like a selfish twat for even asking but you cannae be telling me Scandinavian women avoid the sauna when pregnant, lol. This is ‘don’t eat brie and smoked salmon’ all over again (I’ve eaten neither but I am practically dreaming about brie, I’m not going to lie) If needs be, me and my newly purchased (via Vinted) maternity swimsuit (which is mostly for my newly acquired extra fat from all the snacking than a bump just yet!) will just stick to some swimming and I won’t even pout about it.
I have a David Lloyd membership with a spa, I’ve been to the sauna and steam a few time and just reduced my time in each to around 10 mins!

Also been eating smoked salmon and had sushi so maybe don’t take my advice lol but I’ve made a conscious decision to have smoked salmon from the same place I always have it from and I’ve been absolutely fine

Has anyone recently flown BA and needed a fit to fly certificate? I stupidly thought you just needed them in the third tri…
you do but BA want one regardless of trimester which is a bit annoying… I flew Jet2 and Tui in pregnancy and it was after the 27/28th week they needed a letter. We had almost booked BA flights and I had been looking at that too! I guess if you don’t LOOK pregnant yet? You might not be asked? (I forget how many weeks you are already). But there’s always the chance they guess or can see and don’t allow you to fly.

I'm a bit surprised about how much bmi is brought up? I've mentioned I'm not in the uk and go to private health. I'm in the overweight category and my weight was not brought up once during the ivf process neither my pregnancy. It's tacit that's not ideal but it was no time to be on a diet.
Some years before I had some back pains issues, the doctor didn't mention losing weight until we had a diagnosis, all test were performed and more serious stuff was ruled out.

What can I expect of the 20 week scan? I'm having the one where they check blood flows, idk the name of it in english.
We’re obsessed with it in the UK and the NHS. Being overweight is often the ‘only’ thing that can be wrong with a person. My Mum’s first cancer was missed for several years because she was deemed to be nothing more than a fat smoker which was why she had high blood pressure, according to the doctors. She actually had a tumour on her kidney which was interrupting the workings of her adrenal gland, causing the high blood pressure. She had symptoms of this, too, which nobody took seriously for years.

My midwife and the student midwife had to record my height and weight and my BMI but they were very relaxed about it and said it was a flawed system. The senior midwife that spoke to me about my complaint said my BMI ‘wasn’t that bad anyway’ which is a new one on me but I’ll take it!

Today I have learned that Rennies are gross (is Gaviscon any better? It’s the chalky texture that made me feel really yucky. I was going to buy Morrisons own liquid antacid but it was aniseed flavour which seemed super gross). But, I learned that JuniorDragName seems to have ‘passed’ the private NIPT with flying colours (the percentage of foetal DNA seemed a bit low but not low enough for there to be any comment, and the probability of the various things seemed pretty gosh darned low). And we know the sex of the baby! What a rollercoaster of a day!
Sainsbury’s own brand orange antacid tablets are the only ones I can stomach! I’ve had no end of gastro issues this pregnancy and they sort of taste like orange refreshers rather than minty turds like gaviscon!

Great news about the NIPT ☺

I swear to God if one more person says something stupid to me about having a baby to me I'm going to do a murder.

'You do know, you won't get more than a couple of hours sleep?'

'Babies don't just eat three times a day, you'll have to feed them every couple of hours'

'You do realise babies cry a lot and it's something you have to get used to!'

Etc etc

The urge to reply 'do you think I'm fucking stupid?' is unreal. As if I had absolutely no concept about what having a baby involves, as if they are the first person to tell me this. Honestly.
In what world is this helpful?! Like, people are such dicks, honestly. What are you supposed to say to this? ‘Oh fuck, I didn’t know, can you take the baby for me when it’s born?!’

if pregnancy has done one thing for me it’s removed my filter and ability to be nice to people who are not being nice to me. They’d get both barrels and then some if I were you!

34+1 and I’ve hit a wall today. I’m really hoping when people say newborn plus toddler is easier than pregnant plus toddler that they’re not lying! 4 more weeks at work to go and considering finishing earlier. I really want to maximise time with baby though and went 15 days overdue first time so not sure what to do 😭
I’m feeling this so much, I’m 34+2 with a 3 year old. I feel so miserable tonight I’ve come upstairs to just have a cry 😂 I’m too hot and I can’t get comfortable in any way; and everything is irritating me 😭😭

I had a private scan on Monday, measuring 10 weeks 3 days, saw heartbeat etc. The woman doing the scan said that baby looked fine but I’m now totally over analysing the scan photo as the baby’s forehead looks massive!! Would a private scan necessarily tell you if anything looked concerning? Did anyone else have a scan around this time and think the baby’s head looked huge? 😂 got my 12 week scan in a couple of weeks so trying to relax until then but it’s hard!
Have you got any apps that show what your baby looks like week by week? Because pre 12wks they do look like little aliens. Please try not to worry as at your official 12wk scan lots will be checked xx

Has anyone had a slightly elevated blood pressure reading in the first trimester and managed to bring it down to normal? I read that normally your BP is lower than normal in 1st trimester so I'm worried it's only going to get higher and higher and cause me loads of problems throughout this pregnancy. If anyone has managed to bring it down how did you and how long did it take? Thanks!
Yes. I’d never had any higher blood pressure measurings until this pregnancy. I had my 16wk midwife app last week and the midwife was so kind and patient. She made me take several deep breaths and did it. Then said right let’s try that again and the second time it lowered so she said right I reckon it’ll come down because high blood pressure doesn’t just lower - it stays high. So we did it again. Turns out I’m just really anxious when I go in for my appointments.

We had the occaro travel system from mamas and papas, great for bumpy terrain. Then we had a cybex car seat with a swivel base that attached to the occaro. Mamas and papas sales assistant was great with helping sort this. We booked a personal shopping session and got freebies too. M&P tend to have a lot of offers on around bank hols so keep an eye out!
We got the exact same thing. The Occaro wheels are incredible and the suspension is fab for uneven terrain. It comes with a carrycot as part of the bundle which I do recommend as baby needs to lie flat at first. The pushchair can also be reclined to lie flat but I enjoy the carrycot. The only downside is the frame can’t collapse with the carrycot attached but it can with the pushchair.

This sounds a bit crazy but it’s dawned on me that
1. I have no clue on how to feed a baby? What’s safe now? What’s the rules now on making formula etc? Sterilising?
2. How do I know what to dress them in? How do I know if they are too hot or too cold
3. I don’t even have a clue

I hope I didn’t mean to sound like I was bragging, I wasn’t. Just wanted to share my experiences as I remember how terrified I was first time around especially when people were sharing not great stories. I think I wrote in my first message I was lucky but to reiterate I really know I am, it’s no flex things just went my way in birth. I apologise for any upset caused. Xxxx
You don’t need to apologise, you’re allowed to be proud of your positive birth experience just as much as others are allowed to share the challenges they faced.

Ihave to say at 25(26?) weeks I don't feel anxious, but why people keep telling me about late losses and premature births? Wth? Don't need that right now.
It's so weird how people are present and not as well. A friend that we have never met IRL is very much always asking how I'm doing and to please relax and take it easy, as other people that live in the same city haven't asked much.

I swear my stomach got hairier, the rest of me is okay (except my vagina lol I haven’t seen her in months idk what’s going on down there) 😂 I’ll need to book myself in for a Hollywood wax now that my laser is growing back 🥲

my midwife appointment is the week after next, if the back ache gets worse I’ll give triage a call and ask them what I should do. I definitely feel more pressure down there though, I’m 30 weeks tomorrow! ☺
I only lurk here as I'm not pregnant, never likely to be again and am awaiting a grandchild but I love to read how all you ladies are getting on. And to read advice for if my daughter in law ever needs any. I hope you don't mind me posting and others have given you very sensible advice lovely but I couldn't read & then not post to you.
If your back pain gets any worse or you lose any mucous plug then please do go get checked asap. I had same symptoms as you 33 years ago, my community midwife fobbed me off saying it was a water infection, I didn't realise as a first time Mum but it was actually 'back labour" starting. Never had any tummy pain/tummy contractions the whole time at all, it was all in my back and my boy was born 4 days later at 32 weeks, emergency dash to hospital with 30 minutes to spare cos I'd believed the stupid midwife.
This is not meant to frighten/alarm you at all, but back labour is a thing, trust me. Don't leave it if you're not feeling right, like I did. My boy is now a strapping big lad by the way, despite his early start. Much love xx

Lol when they say “you know you won’t sleep at all once the baby is here right?” Jokes on you love I’m 35 weeks and I haven’t had a good nights sleep since I was in the womb myself
Omg same. I mean, I thought I knew insomnia before I got knocked up but nah, preggo insomnia has been next level. I figure it’s some kind of resilience training, SAS style, for motherhood. I bet mine will bless me with great sleep but I’ll still be up all night or something 🤣🤣🤣

MotherDragName is superstitious, always has been. I come from a line of superstitious women. Can’t cut my nails on certain days of the week, if I put something on inside out and only notice when I’m out I can’t change it over, etc etc. a lot of weird things are drummed into me and it bemuses people.

She is also quite an opinionated person. So, the currently clash is over ‘the pram’ and she has twice told me in the less than a month she has known I’m pregnant that you ‘cannot’ buy the pram/bring it home till the baby is born and at home themselves. Which is cool and all but totally impractical. So she’s started this up again today and when I have pointed out it’ll be a full travel system we’ll be getting that we’ll need to have to bring the baby home from hospital as it will include a car seat she announced, like it was a good thing, that I never had a car seat (at least not to come home from hospital, which I very much did in a car. I am assuming I was in her arms at the time and she was not driving, I didn’t bother asking, I just felt grateful I made it home alive.)

I’ve already had quite pointed questions about whether or not I will be using reusable nappies (she did), whether I’ll be making my own baby food (she did), where will the cot be, etc. She was a lifelong single parent and did a cracking job, but I have also learned she was only able to take 6 weeks of mat leave, worked through part of that, and then told me a story about how she left me on my own in the flat she lived in, which was in the same building as her workplace/office, and heard me crying on the baby monitor and when someone else asked her if she was going to see if I was alright she said no, that I would settle myself.

She told me I should not pander to my baby every time they so much as make a snuffle when I told her about a newborn-toddler convertible high chair that I’d like to get for Junior so if I am in the kitchen they can be nearby and I can keep an eye on them and talk to them but that they might just like being held so I might get a sling and they could go on my back.

She’s not wrong but also… a lot of what she has said about my early life says a lot about a whole heap of my insecurities and anxieties that I hold 40 whole years later. I don’t blame her, she did what she had to do and I’m healthy and rounded and reasonably successful at what I do but, yeah. I’m also a bit of an anxious validation-seeking mess.

I obviously don’t want to fuck my kid’s whole life up with a terrible parenting style but I would like the same opportunity as every parent should have to figure it out for themselves. And everything I say seems to be met with this look of judgement. She had to wing it, I’d like the chance to wing it too and if my mental health dictates that I don’t use reusable nappies or homemade baby foods, then so be it. Will that make me a terrible parent? No. I don’t want to fall out with my Mum about this stuff but I could do without ridiculous superstitions causing me anxiety.
I have to say- we kept the pram at my parents house until baby was here! My mum is also superstitious

Hi everyone, I’m so delighted to be pregnant but the more I read the more anxious I get about my post-partum body. I feel guilty for it too because I really want this pregnancy but hearing/reading so many women flippantly saying “oh my body’s awful now” or “my boobs are like a pair of socks with tennis balls” is making me really really anxious about how my body is going to change :( I don’t know what I’m asking for but maybe some positivity from other women who’ve been through it all?
I can’t offer any positivity as I’m currently 26 weeks but I do feel the saying ‘misery loves company’ helps me when people are being negative or giving you unwanted opinions

I have suffered on and off with forms of ED and I have found being pregnant to be the most content with food & my body I have ever felt. I was petrified of the weight gain and how my body would look and feel but I am trying to embrace the fact I am going to have a wonderful baby after this. I have bad days where I panic but being pregnant and your body changing is temporary 🩷🩷
