I'm in my last week of work before maternity leave starts! Can't believe I've made it this far!

I'm a bit confused on wipes vs cotton wool and water for nappy changes. Is it ok to use water wipes from the beginning? Also will I need nappy cream from the beginning? NHS says to avoid anything on baby's skin for the first few weeks but my friends have been using wipes and cream.
With my first I brought about 3 bags of cotton wool balls/pads before baby was here as I thought that’s what you had to use but you really don’t! I never used them at all! 😂
We ended up using water wipes to begin with but did eventually just move on to Tesco own baby wipes as he got older as it’s much cheaper

- Though some babies skin is more sensitive than others so it may vary what you might have to use Vs someone else is using

Nappy creams, having metanium yellow ready is the best for actual nappy rash if your LO gets it. I think you can use barrier creams to try protect and prevent but I’m not even sure they really do work as we used them with my first and he always got nappy rash early on anyway.

We just use water wipes/normal baby wipes. Didn’t actually consider using anything else and imagine getting water/cotton bits at 3am might be a tad more difficult than grabbing a wipe! We just gave baby her first sponge bath today and used warm water and cotton pads for that
We used cotton pads and warm water on our first...for about a day, then the novelty well and truly wore off

Anyone else just kind of forget they’re pregnant and then get a swift kick to the cervix or catch sight of yourself in a mirror and be like tit maybe I really am pregnant?! 😂

I don’t know when it’s actually going to feel real for me, maybe when she turns 35 or gets a mortgage? 😂 I think it’s because we’ve been trying and waiting so long but I can’t wrap my head around it!

I definitely don't forget I'm pregnant because I've not felt myself since the beginning but the actual having a baby part, and it being forever, doesn't feel real. I can't picture him being a real person and my life changing so drastically.

Oh yeah I’ve felt like a public toilet since conception 😂 it’s just mind blowing

Is it the whole breast or just the nipple? I get vasospasms of the latter but only post labour so I don’t know if it’s a possibility, but you can use warming pads to limit temperature changes - perhaps they could help even if it’s not that?
Whole breast and nipple. The pain is horrendous.

Trigger warning: abortion

Me and my partner have been discussing me coming off the pill and trying for our first baby together. I’m 29 and have been on the pill (rigevidon) for probably over 10 years now. I did get pregnant when I was 16 (mistake with first boyfriend) and we decided to terminate the pregnancy as I was still at school and we both weren’t ready. Is there anything set in stone how to quickly I can get pregnant coming off the pill? Will my body take a long time to go back to normal after being on the pill for so long? My period is very regular I always take it on my week break from the pill.

the rule of thumb is 3-6 months but I’ve read sometimes people take longer and some people are lucky enough to get pregnant straight away!
it’s normal for couples to take 10-12 months to conceive even if everything is “working perfectly”.

there are a few “TTC” threads on here that I read all the way through when I was trying which have so much information and advice!

I’m pregnant with my second currently. First time round my cycle came back to normal straight away post pill but took 6 cycles to conceive. This time it took 3 months for my cycle to get back to normal but we fell pregnant first cycle of trying. Definitely have a look a the TTC thread. I also found it useful to watch YouTube videos on how to track ovulation and time trying to conceive. Good luck!

My cycle took 6 months to return to normal after coming off. Got pregnant first cycle after first 'normal' period.

Anyone who has a physically demanding job, when are you going on mat leave? I work for the NHS and do 13 hour long shifts, but I’m considering working up until 37 weeks and taking annual leave until 39 then starting mat leave but I’m worried I won’t last that long 🤣 I just can’t afford to take a year off so want as much time afterwards as possible

I got pregnant the first month after coming off the pill, it was the Oveanette combined pill and like you I had been on it for years. I was very lucky! Fingers crossed you have the same luck 🤞🏻❤

I also work for the NHS. I’m currently 31+2. I’m going on annual leave from 36+3 and mat leave starting at 39 weeks.

4 weeks till maternity. Luckily the ladies in my room are amazing and don't let me do anything apart from the paperwork. Trying to do a handover for new room leader but I'm in countdown mode and my brain is frazzled.

I made sure all my planning and observations were sorted, threw half a Christmas display together and stored it on the art rack and said peace out this isn’t my problem anymore 😂 i was so done by my last day

I've got 2 weeks left now but I'm only part time so it's only 5 days. I'm just trying to finish my handover notes and wait for the other days to pass by. I'm so lucky I work from home so it makes things a lot easier.
