Can I check with previous new mamas - I’ve been warned to get a) tons and tons of maternity pads as you can expect to bleed so much in the days following (obviously I expect this but how much do you actually get)? I was also warned off buying the Tena incontinence knickers as they can create a more damp environment for healing wounds and

b) told to get dark coloured sheets and some kind of mattress protector or puppy training pads for the days after birth. How many people actually needed those things?

Oh no! When were you planning the reveal? I hope you don't have to keep it secret for too long now
Tomorrow luckily! We are going on holiday with friends so I sent scratch cards to everyone at home who won’t be there. Specifically wrote on the back don’t say anything! My BOSS (of all people) who has been calling it a girl the whole time text me saying he disagrees with the scratch card. Absolute nob head honestly.

ETA he said I didn’t write anything on his. So must’ve missed it 😫

It's stopped again, but might start again like it did before. I'll call them in a bit. It just amazes me they don't tell you what's normal. I know everyone is different but they could at least have something that says X is normal but call us if you see Y.
There is something along those lines, soaking a pad every hour or bleeding like a period is the red flag… but any blood when pregnant is so concerning who wants to wait?!
I’d try for an EPU - early pregnancy unit referral from the GP or if you can get a number/hospital switchboard, call direct. I think about 6 weeks is the earliest they’ll see you here.

Just tried expressing colostrum and totally failed. Nothing. I am sure it’s very beneficial but it just feels like an added pressure on pregnant mums and then failing feels rubbish! Hopefully it’s just too soon for me (I’m 38+3)
It’s very normal to not get any so don’t worry. I was advised to start at 36w as I had GD and never got anything. It took a few days after baby was born to get anything - and I was doing it right.
If you can get it then great, if not then don’t stress about it - I think sometimes it can take a few gos if you wanted to keep trying.

28 weeks but I don’t feel the baby kick much. I read online that you should feel your baby move more or less every hour but I only feel her move mornings and evenings. Is anyone else in the same boat? I have a posterior placenta
Just to say in my first pregnancy I didn’t feel much movement at all and no real pattern. I started working myself up about it to the point I went in for reduced movements and discovered what I had mostly been feeling as movement was actually him hiccuping.

Every pregnancy/baby is different so the amount of movement will be too. I’m 24w and this baby moves a lot more even at this stage than my first ever did! He would move a little at night, occasionally after a meal.

What would be worrying is establishing a pattern and then it stopping or dropping dramatically. Also having something sweet, or a very cold drink is supposed to be a way of generating more movement.

If you are worried always go in to be checked. When you call up they tend to ask if you’ve sat quietly to monitor the movements as obviously we don’t always consciously recognise them when we’re on the go.

Attempted for the first time yesterday and had zero success 🫠

I've actually found a nice non alcoholic drink... they've improved since I was last pregnant in 2020....

Aldi pink greysons non alcoholic gin.. actually tastes similar to real gin.

Still can't find a nice non alcoholic wine.. nosecco still vile
I had Belle&co from Sainsbury’s - it’s a fizzy rose type 0.0% about £3.50 a bottle and fully chilled is pretty nice 😊

Thinking about my hospital bag. My plan is to exclusively breastfeed initially and then maybe start expressing in a few weeks so that husband can do some feeds. I appreciate it may not work so am planning to take with me a pack of formula in the bottled with the pre-sterilised teats like this Aptamil 1 First Infant Baby Milk Formula Liquid Starter Pack Ready to Feed from Birth 6x70ml - Tesco Groceries .

Is that ok?
Those are fine, that’s what I took. It may be worth having two boxes just in case you are in over night.

I’m 35 weeks tomorrow and since last night I’ve had a banging headache which kept me up and hasn’t gone away with 3 doses of paracetamol or the little sleep I managed to get. It’s now travelled down my neck. I also feel sick and keep needing the loo. Anyone know what it could be?
It could just be a migraine (mine have gotten worse since pregnancy) but headaches that aren’t going away can be a sign of pre eclampsia so might be worthwhile calling triage/midwives and maybe getting checked over???

I’m glad to hear it calmed down for you! That’s exactly the same for me, being hungry is making me nauseous, but eating makes me sick. It’s like I can’t win
It’s such a tough cycle, all I lived on were crackers 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ if it doesn’t go - please don’t be afraid to talk to you GP and really push for something if you need it

This is a very strange one but I am currently 16+5 and I have a niggly pain in my left hip like a trapped nerve. Probably jot even pregnancy related but the pain is going down my leg a little and the left side of my vagina / groin 🤣🤦 when I say pain, it's more of an ache. I'm not worried I'm just curious if anybody has ever experienced this or if I am just being absolutely mental 🤣🤣
yes! I had this at the exact same time. It was like a nerve twinge

On the maternity pay chat, if any of you are teachers, check out TeachersSPL on Twitter/X. It made all the difference to me during my first maternity leave as the OMP we receive as teachers is so rubbish now. How it works is you ‘return to work’ over the school holidays and get full pay without actually having to go to work - just makes sure you’re entitled to the pay you’ve earned with how our pay is split over the year.

Do they warn you before they look at the genitals? I don't want to accidentally find out that way.
they turned the screen off when I had a private scan and the NHS 20w scan tne sonographer asked if we knew and said she could turn the screen off if we wanted to keep it a surprise. Worth asking/ letting them know 🙂

Our baby boy arrived earlier this week via emergency c section 🥰
omg has it been wild and such a strange blur 😅
It’s all so overwhelming and I feel like I don’t have a clue what I’m doing with him or if I’m doing the right things.
my milk still hasn’t come in yet which I think is adding to all the stress but hoping it will soon 🤞🏻

Anyone waiting for their babies I hope they’re with you soon!
also I packed so much stuff in my hospital bag and used about 3 things 🤣
The best thing I took was a portable nightlight (just got off Amazon that does different colours etc) for when we were on the ward. Also if you’re hoping to breastfeed buy the silverette things - I decided to wait and see how I got on and holy moly did I regret that while I was waiting for Amazon to deliver them!
Congrats on your baby boy, lovely! ❤

Oh gosh I hope I’m not here for a week 😭

Unfortunately had another small amount of bright red blood during the night so they’ve said I’ll be here another night 🥲
They said they would want to examine me if it happens again

I know I’m in the right place in case anything happens but finding it so overwhelming being on a ward with others that are close to having their babies.
do they have a side room they can move you to if it becomes available if you’re not already? That helped me massively, rather than being in a bay with inductions and ctg’s, I also wasn’t at the point where they could use anything but a Doppler to listen in.

Sending love 🫶
