I have a bit of an embarrassing question - how do you tell the difference between leaking waters, wee and discharge?! I’m experiencing fairly wet underwear mostly in the mornings, it doesn’t smell of nothing but it also smells of something… it could also just be sweat because I’m waking up so sweaty during the night. I’m 37+6 today. According to Google I would know if it’s my waters breaking and also that leaking urine is very common… I don’t really want to have to go in to get checked unless I really need to
Honestly go get checked- my waters went at 40+1 and I thought it was sweat. It was a really slow trickle so I wasn’t sure, I went in and the midwives said they didn’t think it was my waters then did the test and lo and behold it was. It was nothing like in the movies 😂

Feeling very down about my “new” body. I’m only 15 weeks so I know this is going to get worse. I feel absolutely huge and my boobs are horrendous!

Just tried expressing colostrum and totally failed. Nothing. I am sure it’s very beneficial but it just feels like an added pressure on pregnant mums and then failing feels rubbish! Hopefully it’s just too soon for me (I’m 38+3)

I definitely don't forget I'm pregnant because I've not felt myself since the beginning but the actual having a baby part, and it being forever, doesn't feel real. I can't picture him being a real person and my life changing so drastically.
Oh yeah I’ve felt like a public toilet since conception 😂 it’s just mind blowing

Dear God, this reflux is killing me. I don't know how I'm going to cope as I've read it only gets worse. I've tried all the home remedies and tips and omeprazole but nothing is touching it. It's all day long. I wake up with a really sore throat because the acid has come up in my sleep, every time I burp, acid is coming into my mouth. Help!

Well, as expected, my parents have had a bad reaction to my announcement and I’m officially Disappointing Daughter of the Year. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So glad I’m speaking to my psychologist in an hour. 🤣
I'm so sorry to hear this. I know it's not the same, but I hope you have other people around you who are much more supportive. Sending you lots of love.

4 weeks till maternity. Luckily the ladies in my room are amazing and don't let me do anything apart from the paperwork. Trying to do a handover for new room leader but I'm in countdown mode and my brain is frazzled.
I made sure all my planning and observations were sorted, threw half a Christmas display together and stored it on the art rack and said peace out this isn’t my problem anymore 😂 i was so done by my last day

5 weeks tomorrow!

can someone reassure me that they’ve had no symptoms at this stage and still gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? I’d already been in hospital with severe vomiting at this point in my first pregnancy, and beyond gagging at the smell of nursery on Monday, I haven’t even had any nausea yet!

Im a midwife and can honestly say there isn’t much evidence to say they work, however some women find them useful as you can find out whether things are changing with the cervix.

Thank you this was a helpful read! As a midwife can you recommend any ways to naturally encourage labour?

I’m 5w, 4 days but the nausea is unbearable, nothing helps and it’s making me miserable ☹ I’ve heard it only gets worse… 😢
Not always sweet. I was awful on holiday when I was about 5-7 weeks but it seems my hormones have simmered down a little bit. It was hard as I needed food to get rid of the nausea but equally didn’t want to eat as I was fed up of being sick

I have fully given up sleeping in the bed. I can’t get comfy, I tried a pregnancy pillow and it’s just so awkward. I dread going to bed. 30 weeks and it’s only going to get harder. My partner keeps telling me he will get on the couch but I just can’t settle in the bed at all!
I didn't have a pregnancy pillow because I'm tight. I folded up a duvet and stitched it into an old patchwork I was working on. Despite having a bad back, I sort of piled up at least 3 pillows and my pregnancy duvet thing and THEN SLEPT ON MY SIDE. I have no idea how my hips and back survived that but it was comfy 🤷‍♀️

Did it cause you to gain a lot of extra weight (baby aside) or not really make much of a difference? It's ridiculous. Had a massive bowl of pasta for dinner and now I'm lying in bed and my stomach is growling like I haven't eaten for a week and I know the hunger pangs will keep me awake
Please don't worry about gaining weight, you can always lose it later. JUST EAT! What you might need to look out for is getting past this stage and somehow still gorging yourself. That's what I did last time in my 2nd trimester, this time I plan to listen to my body and stop when I'm full. I'm 8 weeks and that hunger has gone away, I'm eating a bit more normally

I’m finally buying baby bits and I wondered if anyone had any recommendations or thoughts on the following. What did you buy and do you recommend? I’m also looking to combi feed and I’ve no idea where to even start with these:
- White noise machine
- Groegg
- Prep machine
- Breast pump
- Steriliser
Thanks so much

Spent the morning in hospital for about an hour for reduced movements after baby had a slow day yesterday and not a single movement in the night…only for her to boot the machine as soon as they put it on. What a start to maternity leave 😂

I'm 25 weeks and this started for me at around the same time. I told the Dr about it at my most recent appointment and she's referred me to physio. Hopefully that will help because it's driving me nuts!

It absolutely boggles my mind.

I was talking to someone at a baby store the other day who told me it was "better for the baby" to be induced and her doctor had advised her not to go to 40 weeks, but even just the tests they have - the same woman was amazing I hadn't had a glucose test and asked me why I would go against medical advice when I didn't go to medical school (And yes, yes I really did take great pleasure in informing her that I indeed did go to medical school and was a doctor ;) )

It's scary. I think the US mortality rate is about 21/100000 compared to 9/100000 I think in the UK. I understand the need for induction, c-sections, forceps and even the right to choose if that is what you want, but pregnancy is the most natural thing in the world and that has definitely been lost in the US.

I already have 2 healthy girls, both born at 36 weeks after short labours (with one surprising us at home very quickly). Like you said, you're almost 41 weeks, as long as you and baby are safe (and unless its what you wanted) why would you add in more procedures and medications than needed.

(Yes, I am rambling but it's 3.30am baby 3 has decided my ribs are the best toy every and E2 has decided she absolutely cannot sleep unless she is next to daddy laying like a starfish so no sleep for me! :ROFLMAO: )
I remember you from being on here with my first in 2021 were you pregnant with your first then?! I lived in the US at the time and refused to get cervical checks from 36 weeks. Eventually let her at 39 and she gave me a sweep without even asking. I had a weird almost backwards labour in the end and I always wonder if that was why. Luckily she wasn’t too pushy about induction until 41 weeks. The hospitals there are bloody amazing though!!

Question I'm hoping you can help with so I know if I'm being unfair... how late in your pregnancy would you say is ok for partner/husband to go abroad?
He's been asked to a stag do when I'll be 34 weeks or more (not had 12 week scan yet and think they are going to move my due date sooner), it's to a European city for a few nights. Do you think this is too late?
My partner routinely goes away with work (min. 2 nights) he has one more in early November, and had already said he can’t travel in December or January (from when I turn 34 weeks funnily enough 😂)
In saying that though he’s more stressed than me about the whole thing 😂

Mine started to go on Friday, stopped on Saturday, then lost it again on Sunday and my waters broke the Monday morning. When I googled it said it could be up to two weeks, fingers crossed things progress for you!
thank you! Getting really fed up and knowing it could be up to another 3 weeks is ruining my life 🤣

I had quite bad nausea with my first and this morning (I’m 5+3) I had an episode where I felt like I was going to faint and extreme nausea. I’ve had twinges since I found out.
I had terrible nausea but ever remember feeling faint with my first….should I be worried?
I wouldn’t be worried! If you are, speak to your GP. I felt absolutely terrible the first 10ish weeks x

I'm not sure I agree @Hinchhater1442 Induction is no guarantee when baby will come (I believe 2-5 days is most common) and there are tons of reasons you might need or want one and various different methods. They also require much closer monitoring and come with more risks than natural labour (more likely to need interventions/C-section). Most women will labour at home until baby is imminent whereas with induction you could take a bed for days and need 1-2-1 midwife care in labour so it'd be more staff and resource intensive.
I think part of the issue is that we use outdated data for what constitutes a big baby and growth scans are far more prevalent these days. We also have better monitoring and hospitals are targeted to reduce poor fetal outcome meaning they will err on the side of caution. Equally, if a lady does not particularly engage with midwife/pre-natal services they can't just be called in for induction so there would always be an underlying issue.
Induction will be based on clinical need so a baby that's stopped growing or a PPROM will have higher need compared to say, a large baby or an overdue lady where baby is not at risk and can be pushed back.
The hospital will know at any one time the due dates of the ladies registered to have their baby there, medical history etc so they should be able to staff plan using their data systems pretty well in advance.
At my hospital the month I gave birth to my first induction was 33.8% of labours. 48.9% were unassisted vaginal brth, 9.6% assisted, 21.8% ECS and 19.4% planned CS - 380 babies total. I think it's about 20% nationally

Anyway, just my thoughts, I find it all quite interesting x
Me too! One thing I did read though is that the NHS are inducing people and then sending them home to relieve bed space and lack of midwifery staff, and then having them come back in. To be honest, again, it makes more sense than having a woman sit in a bed for 2-3 days waiting.
