Welcome and congratulations xHi ladiesjoining again at (i think) bang on 4w pregnant following a loss in February
Feeling a bit more positive this time around as my last pregnancy had a lot of problems before eventual MC and I was a ball of anxiety but this time I feel a bit more chilled and trusting of my body which I’m taking as a good sign!
No I can't cope, I have one of them for myself anywayEy if you have a potty stool for the toilet if you’re potty training your first, when you have your first poo put your feet on that. It helped me

Please try not to panic. Mine was also diagnosed very late, I was literally on the last day they’d have tested me in my trust. The gestational diabetes Uk page is great for information and meal ideas. Just try to pair anything carby with protein or fat. Cheese, eggs, nuts and meat are your best friends. And avoid sugary drinks, haribo etc. I’ve found a chocolate bar like a penguin or Kit Kat I’d be fine as long as I also had a chunk of cheese or a boiled egg around the same time.just been told I have GD cant stop crying im really scared I dont know what todo I feel like 34 weeks is so late to be dealing With this
I was nervous too! They put my rent up by £40I've just let my landlady know that we're having a baby. She's lovely but my god I'm nervous about what her response will be. Our contract is up for renewal in a couple months, I hope she realises we need to save all the money we can now
thank you so much, its alot more common than I realised, I think I have a rough idea how to pair things thanks to the Facebook groups! ive thrown all my chocolate crisps out while I was crying lol im really going to just try find meals that works and stick to them tbh as realistically I probably only have 4 weeks of this maybe which in a way is better than having it since the start to me as I cant imagine 9 months of this! Please try not to panic. Also remember it’s nothing you’ve done, you couldn’t have changed it or done anything differently. It’s all down to hormones.
Regarding growth, I was told all the way through I was having a whopper. He was above 95th centile from the day they started measuring him and always measured a week or 2 ahead. At 36 weeks some of his measurements were 40+ weeks. But he’s come out today bang on average at 7lbs 8oz. They’ll probably offer you an extra scan now and maybe an earlier induction.
But again, try not to worry. They’ll take extra care of you, they’ll monitor you loads on the day and baby will just have to have their blood sugars checked every few hours after birth for 24-30 hours (my trust is 30hrs, I know others are 24). So far we’ve been absolutely fine and my blood sugars are fine since birth despite having just coke and cookies most of today.
You will be fine x
You can still have crisps etc you just need to pair them but I agree for the sake of a few weeks I tried to be strict(ish) but still needed my kitkat or penguin fix. I stuck to plain water, sugar free fizzy drinks or sugar free flavour water.thank you so much, its alot more common than I realised, I think I have a rough idea how to pair things thanks to the Facebook groups! ive thrown all my chocolate crisps out while I was crying lol im really going to just try find meals that works and stick to them tbh as realistically I probably only have 4 weeks of this maybe which in a way is better than having it since the start to me as I cant imagine 9 months of this!
just hope I can speak to a specialist sooner rather than later so I can have all the info I need to feel more relaxed
also congratulations on the birth hope all is well!
How was your evening reading?thank you, I think its a lot more common than I think its just a whole new world, I think id be less panicked if I had more time to get this undercontroll, but I got told im also measuring a week ahead at 35 weeks so technically once ive got any real advice ill be 36 nearly 37 weeks! seems very late to me
joined that group ! hopefully I can control it, I just got my monitor now so ill give it a try later after a meal
I usually take my iron tablets about a minute before I do my fasting reading. My hospital recommend you do your reading an hour after finishing eating - but I did see on the GD UK group that some hospitals suggest an hour from first bite. In terms of snacking my hospital said no need to test after snacking, but I do sometimes depending on what I eat. I usually more so test beforehand to see if I’m okay to have a snack, and then test afterwards out of curiosity to see how well I tolerate it. I just tested to see if I’m allowed some galaxy before bed, I was 4.1 so I feel I’m pretty safe to have a few squares and not go over.is Pepsi max ok? I recently brought a load and that is something that would be hard to give up,
thats good advice since being told to have the test I have been trying to eat better and have cut allot and I mean a lot of chocolate out my diet.
well I had a phone call I couldn't really take it in as just wanted to cry but she sent me an email which I had to email over my details to the diabetic team and wait to hear back from them, she said I can collect a monitor anytime from my local birth centre which I now have, it came with so many leaflets and obviously one on how to use it, but im waiting to have an online information session she said they run on Tuesdays so ill have to wait to know more till. then but I dont see why I cant start/ practice testing as of tomorrow its bluetooth one that goes to the app,
bit confusing though as one I take iron tablets should I take these after my fasting blood sugar, wait a while as its best on empty stomach then eat? then obviously you take a reading before a meal like breakfast but when do you start the hour count down?from your first bite or after you've finished the meal to do the after meal test?
---
also I see it suggests snacking too do u need to test after and before snacks?
You can take them with your OJ but have like an omelette or something for breakfast and it might pair and balance out! It’s literally all trial and error at first. You might find your OJ doesn’t even affect you but something else does.I didnt do any testing tonight as I wanted to start fresh tomorrow and set the machine up properly etc, Ill start tomorrow quite nervous, do iron tablets affect that as they seem to contain sugar for some reason, I was also told to take them with a glass of orange juice but I dont think that'll be a good idea considering its all sugar !
ok, ill bare this in mind for meantime until im told everything on the online session next week,
