Hi all. Long time lurker here, but can finally comment as I am now pregnant! I got my BFP on Tuesday. I believe I am 4 weeks. First time mum to be and I’m SCARED. Is it normal to feel this overwhelmed already? I keep dwelling on how the course of my life has just changed in an instant and it’ll never be the same again. I don’t think I was prepared for how quickly it happened, we had only been trying three cycles. I feel guilty for feeling anxious when I know most people would kill to conceive in three months. Does anyone else feel the same?
First of all congrats! Yes it's absolutely normal to feel overwhelmed, I'm 36+ 4 with my second and had massive anxiety last night about how life and the family dynamic will change once the new arrival is here! The one thing I will say is it is totally one million percent worth the upheaval and change in your life, becoming a mammy was the best thing ever happened to me. Good luck for the weeks ahead - it's so exciting! X

One of my close work friends is male and himself and my boyfriend just don’t GET IT.. I’m exhausted at 6 weeks, I do four 12 hour shifts in a row on my feet and the two dumb fucks just don’t understand the changes even so early (it’s our first, I hardly understand it myself 😂 ) I’m off Saturday and heat wave or not, I plan on sleeping for the day
My husbands the opposite and it’s a pain! He’s been “educating” himself. I’m 9 weeks and finding it hard. Which is making it hard for me to be excited. I mainly feel deflated and fed up. Every time I tell him how bad I feel and how fed up I am I get a message or told some spiel about the current stage I’m at 🤬

Does anyone use any lotions or oils to help with stretch marks as your bump grows? Do they work?
I don't think there is any actual evidence that they do - it is more down to genetics and the elasticity of your skin, how much weight you gain. No harm in trying though! I just keep mine moisturised with normal moisturiser and never got any stretch marks in my 3 pregnancies x

I felt my first flutters today 🥰

Does anyone have any books/reading recommendations? I'm feeling like I'm very unprepared and almost at the halfway mark 🙈
For pregnancy I liked the modern midwife book, I didn’t really feel like a lot of the hypnobirthing type stuff was for me, but the science was so informative and the breathing tips were actually quite helpful in the end! In terms of baby books, honestly there’s not many I’d recommend - I read a few but unfortunately the baby didn’t so In theory they were great but in practice they were quite unhelpful. I did an online antenatal class that was useful though, so would recommend something like that! (I can’t remember the name of mine sorry but they do a free baby care one which was also good!)

Do you get any comments about having a third?I get the most rude reactions when I tell anyone who asks that I’m having a 3rd. They seem to think it’s acceptable to ask whether it was an accident as well!
I had a lot of "oh, another?" Or "oh was it planned?"
Especially as I had a boy and girl so seen as "perfect"

Tbh, I've been asked every time if it was planned, by multiple people.
---
The rise in abortions has gone up massively due to the cost of living crisis, sadly I’m not surprised people are asking if a third was planned ☹
I don't think it should be asked at any point as it's none of their business

I’m 7W+2 days and I’m so so fed up wirh

people who talk loudly and aren’t silent on the bus (more than normal!)

teenagers with horrific BO

that old man musty mouldy cigarette smell

the smell of weed covered with aftershave

people who were heavily scented hair products in the elevator

people who eat smelly food in the office

speed humps.

Basically I’m done with nausea and sensory overload and I’m not even 10 weeks

Can I just say… it’s bloody hot. 😅

20 week scan tomorrow for the twins.Trying to push it out my mind so I don’t worry but it’s starting to get to me that if I don’t think about it, there’ll be something wrong. (I’ve had a lot of things go wrong in my life and feel like I'm always dwelling on what could go wrong because good stuff like this doesn’t happen to me).
I understand 100% ❤ up until my 12 week scan I was constantly panicking and it didn't help that I had spotting too. I was convinced that something bad would happen. The 12 week scan did reassure me a bit more and I did start to relax a bit but now I'm in the 2nd trimester all my pregnancy symptoms are gone and I have loads of energy and feel amazing but I still have in the back of my mind about something not being right. I've only properly felt the baby move twice and the other day it was quite intense and lasted for a few minutes but I haven't really felt them since so I definitely worry. Got my 20 week scan in two weeks and I'm a mixture of excited and nervous. Looking forward to seeing the baby again and making sure everything is okay.

Good luck for the scan tomorrow, let us know how it goes ❤

Thank you for your reply! I’ve still not heard off him, not even a measly text to ask how me and baby are. I’ve decided that I’ll have baby on my own with just mum there now and she’ll be taking my last name. He’s definitely emotionally abusive. He says things like good luck finding someone with three kids, you’ll be skint with three and I’ll just have one to pay for and tells me things like I have nothing going for me where as he does because he’s self employed and earns so much a day etc (even though this work isn’t every day or that often!)

I’ve heard of them, I guess it’s something to keep in mind for once she’s here! My family will be keen to steal her though I’m sure!

i think I’m so caught up in it because I can’t see life changing and I feel like the financial pressure is on me quite a bit as I have to make sure food is in for the kids and bills are paid where as his only concern is his weed payments and I can’t see that changing as he clearly has no intention of stopping!

I go in a week today for my induction, so I’m getting nervous now! I just don’t know where the time has gone!
I can’t believe he still hasn’t messaged you, you sound incredibly strong and I think you’ll have a much calmer labour with your mum instead! Also, and I hope I don’t come across as insensitive, but I snorted slightly when he said he has a lot going for him 🤦🏼‍♀️🙄
I hope your induction goes okay! Keep us updated xx

Haven’t been on here much since starting maternity! I’m 38w 6d today and being called in for an induction in the next few days as baby is measuring big. Was stressing about it and the unknown but I’m also at that point where I’m not enjoying pregnancy anymore. I feel huge, can’t see my feet, and I’ve not had more than 2 hours decent sleep at a time. So ready to have my baby now! 🥳

I think nausea is worse. In my first pregnancy I had three ‘states’: feeling sick, being sick, just been sick. Just been sick was bearable for an hour or so. Feeling sick relentlessly is horrible and so draining. I’ve escaped it for the most part this time, although brushing my teeth can trigger sickness sometimes.
With my first I was sick 10/11 times a day, it was awful and I always thought people with nausea were complaining unnecessarily (sounds harsh but I felt shit allll day for 17/18 weeks haha), this time I’ve been sick 1/2 times a day maximum and felt nauseous 24/7 and it was so much worse. The only relief I’ve had is when I’m actually sick so I prayed I’d start throwing up for the relief of it! Luckily only lasted until 12 weeks this time but it shouldn’t be underestimated how awful it can be! Lesson learnt!!!

Just saw some holiday photos and I’m the biggest I’ve ever been, and I’m going to get bigger! It’s just temporary, just temporary, just temporary… 🫠
If ever there was a time when you shouldn’t worry about being the biggest you’ve been it’s when you’re pregnant with twins!! I think that’s a perfectly valid reason (not that we need reasons to be different sizes throughout our lives but you know what I mean!)

I feel like it’s Groundhog Day at the moment, 4 days until due date and I’m going crazy staying at home waiting.. I’m so glad I worked up until last week! On the other hand I am too tired to do anything to stay busy so I’m just stuck with my mind trying to will this baby out 😭😂

I've been told I need a full bladder for my 20 week scan? Would be nice if I didn't because I find it so uncomfortable 🙈

---

Does anyone have an humidifier? I'm considering getting one because every night I'm so congested and it's affecting my sleep quite a lot. I've also heard they are good for newborns?

---

Also, a mini rant but being first time pregnant I always used to wonder why pregnant ladies got annoyed when people commented on their bumps and now I totally get it! I still just look bloated but family are saying "ooooh you have a bump now!" And stuff like that and one went to touch me and I flinched so she stopped herself but it's made me feel so awkward and a bit cringe 🙈 I think it's because I don't consider it to be a bump yet as I look like this after a big meal anyway 😂
Ugh people who touch someone’s bump need to get in the bin. I hate it!! The other thing that wound me up no end was near my due date everyone asking and messaging ‘any sign yet?’. Another positive of having an elective section this time around for me is I won’t be getting any messages or comments like that 🤣🤣🤣

Man I am HORMONAL.. is this normal in the final few weeks? I just feel like it’s Groundhog Day every day and am feeling a bit flat… I think it’s cos I’m just waiting for baby now. But I am getting annoyed at my husband for all sorts of reasons (poor man) and had a cry today for no apparent reason also 😭😂

Back from the private clinic. Baby is measuring 7 weeks+2, not 8 weeks+3. I’ve looked at my calendar and it’s impossible for her dating to be correct but the disparity is odd. Did anyone else have such a gap in dates?
Even if you could be sure of when you ovulated, you don't really know when you conceived - eggs can survive for 48ish hours once ovulation occurs, and sperm can survive for up to a week. It usually takes 5 days to make a blastocyst embryo, then another 1-2 days for implantation to begin. It's really hard to be specific in terms of dates this early. The measurements are also TINY so 1mm out here or there can put you backwards or forwards a few days x

Had first scan today, thought I was 11 + 6 but I'm actually 10 + 5 😭 baby was moving loads and heartrate looked good just really disappointed I don't have a picture, felt like it'd be a good anchor for high anxiety moments but left empty handed. Need a 2nd scan and receptionist was horrible and blankly said they don't have any. Husband is happy and reassured but I just feel shit.

Feel like I'm right back in the high worry zone with nothing to show for it. Having a pity party with Greggs gingerbread in my office 🥲
Ah I’m sorry your experience wasn’t the best. I know it’s easier said than done to relax, but it’s so positive you saw baby moving and the heart rate was good. Hopefully they’ll get you booked in for your second one shortly and it will be better 🤞🏻I’d definitely ask for a picture next time though if they don’t offer!

I’ve got my 20 week scan today and I feel so anxious.

I don't know how you ladies do it, be pregnant and also have another child - young ones at that - to look after. I'm knackered after a day at the office dealing with people then walking the dog at a snail's pace!

I’m sure they’re not, and if they are fuck them! You’re pregnant, with twins (hero) on a well deserved break away! Try not to let anyone make you feel less than for whatever reason because anyone who is looking and judging is the one with the issue . Most likely they’re looking wondering how you’re coping being pregnant with twins in the heat haha (that’s what I always think when I see pregnant women in summer!) but if it’s anything else, says more about them than you. Have a great time and enjoy your break!
Thanks, I really needed that and need to remember! Currently sitting paddling my swollen feet in the pool, wearing my maternity swimming costume 😁

Congratulations!

I am here for a world weary pregnancy moan. So very tired and achey at 31 + 1. Husband has been away, he got back Tuesday but then our toddler was sick Tuesday night so was off nursery yesterday. I really wish I could just have a day or so to catch up on sleep and to feel like me again. I have my hair booked for the end of may along with A much needed pedicure (can’t see my toes!)

On top of that people keep saying ‘you’re PREGNANT‘ and looking surprised, I’m 7 months along for gods sake, surely I am not that fat!

32+1 weeks here with Baby Tea, consultant planning delivery at 37 weeks as I’m high risk for pre-eclampsia, high BP and baby measuring below third centile. I feel so so unorganised but third trimester tiredness is making me so lazy - can’t just be me🥲🤞🏼
