Just saw some holiday photos and I’m the biggest I’ve ever been, and I’m going to get bigger! It’s just temporary, just temporary, just temporary… 🫠

Fingers crossed all is well, Fudge. ❤

I am also very uncomfortable, my toddler has watched far too much TV today. We have gone to a toddler group, had a little play on a park and played outside in the garden but he’s watched about four hours in total 😮 he did wake at half five, though … I have felt sick on and off all day!

I am on half term now (I work in a school for three days a week) and I only have three weeks left after we go back. So nine working days!

Would like honest opinions on whether I’m being a bit ridiculous about my family situation…

I seem to have found myself reacting weirdly to both my Dad and mother in law’s comments. I’m not sure if it’s my instinct kicking in to protect or whether they’re just strange 😅

Ever since we announced the twin pregnancy my MIL has been naturally, beyond excited. 12 hours after telling her the news she went shopping and ended up filling 3 suitcases worth of baby clothes, getting a bath and some other equipment for us. I’m very grateful for everything but we both told her in a nice way to calm down because a) we don’t want her spending too much of her own money and b) it would be nice to get our own stuff as well.
She then went and told me she’s been testing out prams “for herself” so she can take them on the train somewhere when we need a break. I realise this is what grandparents do but in that moment I felt like screaming “no way!” at her. She’s also made jokes about not ‘sharing’ them with other members of the family. I might be being unfair but also a few years ago she had problems with her eyesight and said she was nearly blind, quitting work and has claimed benefits for quite a while, yet can read stuff and get public transport to our house 40 mins away from where she lives. She could see the scan pics quite clearly too. I might be way out of line commenting on her ability to look after small babies by herself due to her disability but it all just doesn’t sit right with me! She’s also offered to give us £500 towards a pram which I’m very grateful for but told her we need to think about it, it’s all quite overwhelming.

My dad on the other hand has been excited but hasn’t bought anything for them. He has made comments that he nearly bought some clothes the other day but wasn’t quite sure what we’d like. My mum died when I was 18 (20 years ago) and I’ve silently been quite sad at points that she’s not here to celebrate. I’ve never missed her as much as I do now. My dad has a new wife who I haven’t had the best relationship with. She’s 3 years older than me and quite childish and controlling, which other family members agree with. My dad and her had 2 dogs and she used to scream at them constantly. I have reservations about them babysitting and feel like I’m going to have to set some strong boundaries. My dad said she’ll be ‘chief babysitter’ which made me a bit worried. There’s just no trust there. He also asked if they could be there at the birth which I was horrified to hear! All quite strange and I wonder if it’s because they couldn’t have children so he’s trying to show her through me what it might be like.

I am very aware I might be overreacting about everything, it’s my hormones etc and other people have much worse parental / in law situations.
Ah jeez, I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, it must be like grieving all over again for your mum xx

reigning your MIL in a bit will be a delicate operation but think she’s obviously so excited so really hard to temper that energy with allowing you guys to set boundaries too. She’s probably so excited she’s thinking way into the future about the train rides and things and all her ideas have come tumbling out at once.I have a mum whose love language is buying stuff too and it’s frustrating sometimes, sometimes she comes up absolute trumps but other times she’s got me wringing my hands. Be as sweet as you can but ultimately you can accept stuff and give it away or faceBay it if you want - use the money on the kids and she’s still helping you guys out and you’ve not had to fall out over it.

on the stepmom issue… well… your dad might be saying she’s chief babysitter as a way of showing excitement or involving her and you know, she might not be as into the idea anyway so you might not have to worry about it! Cross these bridges when you have to, but don’t let it dampen your excitement right now. People say all sorts of things when there’s a concept of a baby but often in reality they don’t want to put in the effort so you might have a lucky escape 😂 also not to point out the obvious but dogs and kids are different so even if she shouted at her dogs she might be much nicer to your babies.

Difficult to navigate everyone’s enthusiasm for your bundles but remember ultimately you will always have the final say. That said, I have a giant teddy bear that I hate that has sat In my daughter’s bedroom for the last 5 years that we can’t get rid of because we sadly lost my lovely MIL (who bought it for her) in 2020 and giant bear now for some reason holds some weird symbolism 🥴🥴🥴 so maybe don’t take my advice 🤣

I have my private 8 week scan tomorrow morning and I’ve absolutely convinced myself there’s going to be nothing in there. I’ve also had very few symptoms: boobs and a little nausea but that’s all. I’m exhausted from worrying about it. I’m being ridiculous, aren’t I? Husband keeps saying, “but you’re tired and have some symptoms - that must mean there’s something in there”. not necessarily buddy.

Luckily it’s an early appointment and I need to paint a shed tomorrow so if it’s not viable, at least I have a task to do tomorrow.
I'm about 6 weeks, which I know is early bur also don't really have any symptoms. I've told work, but feel a bit of a fraud because I don't have any symptoms. Then I feel silly and should be luckily I'm not suffering too badly. Can't win 🙄
Hope the scan goes well ❤

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today - just in case anyone hasn't had theirs yet, they did my blood pressure, urine sample / test and organised my whooping cough vaccination. But I also got to hear the heartbeat properly for the first time which was a lot more emotional than I expected!

Congratulations @Pontiac_Bandit ❤ Great news to start the new thread with! I hope you're enjoying some lovely baby cuddles. I think someone else said, but if it helps I actually found my episiotomy easier to recover from than the tear I got last time 🤷‍♀️ I found a couple of daily sitz baths and keeping it dry helped soothe it more than anything as well (once you're back home and recovering a bit) xx

Looking forward to hear about the next Tattle baby @Naataaliiee !! I'd 100% have an induction again if I needed one. Hoping it goes well for you.

Can’t seem to quote you both above but I’m having an elective section next week. I was I totally categorised as low risk but now high risk because of baby’s size. My consultant was amazing and basically asked what I wanted to do and was happy for me to have a section.

Even before this I was keen for a section for anxiety around assisted birth etc - it’s definitely doable, but you might have to push to speak to a different consultant.

Do you get any comments about having a third?I get the most rude reactions when I tell anyone who asks that I’m having a 3rd. They seem to think it’s acceptable to ask whether it was an accident as well!
Omg this is my third and I’ve had a couple school mums I barely talk to ask if it was planned! They’re like you have one of each already as well. Ok and???

Any second/third time mums had a success with a sweep? I just had one today at 40+1, am 1cm dilated and cervix is ‘favourable’ and she could feel babies head! Trying not to set all my hopes on this but I’m so excited for something to start happening now!!
🙋🏻‍♀️ had one at 40w, I was 2cm, favourable and she had to be careful not to pop my waters but also felt babies head. Nothing happened the day of the sweep so I resigned myself to utter misery thinking I’d make it to my induction date. I went to big Tesco to try and walk him out, lost my bloody show in the toilets there, had period pains/dull back ache for 4/5hrs before my waters popped as I got up off the bed. Contractions started straight away, baby was here 3.5hrs after 🙂

Saw my best friend for the first time in person since July last year and chickened out of telling her about baby, and now I feel kinda sad. I’m worried it will change our relationship as she’s not a baby person (which is fine) and our friendship was based on drinking and going out. Life is funny.

Congrats, what a relief! I've bought 1 pack of sleepsuits from Next 😅 Part of me wants to buy more, and I know my family are desperate to buy bits, but my natural anxiety is stopping me. I'm thinking of asking my partner if he wants to go baby shopping on Saturday and hope that'll help with my stupid anxiety.
Do it and let us know if it helps!

The anxiety is so real, it's a losing battle against wanting to be prepared and have everything bought but also scared of bad news - even though I'm 15 weeks and baby is happy and healthy, feel like there's still so much to worry about 🫣

Think of buying second hand as doing your bit for the planet! All this stuff we have to buy is only used for a few months and will almost always do at least one more person a good turn. Buying preloved is really savvy, I sell a lot of my stuff for £5 because I just want it out of my house - but the original price is almost always £20 or higher and I may have only used it a couple of times.

another thing I’d recommend is consider buying a car seat that is good from birth through to at least 4. The seat I have now is good until 12 supposedly and it works perfectly for me.

but yes if you’re buying a next to me or Moses basket etc second hand you just need to buy a new mattress and you’re golden.
Agreed! Also, it's worth asking friends/family with children for recommendations of what make/model of items to buy because we found that when we asked, more often than not they'd say "oh, I was about to try to sell mine - would you like it?" and we got loads of stuff either for free or cheap! I think all we bought new of the "big" items was a cotbed for when he's older and mattresses for a second hand snuzpod and bassinet!

I've had 4 pregnancies and these are the only symptoms I've had.
Sore boobs and being tired.
With my 4th I felt slightly nauseous if I got hungry, but that was it! 😊
Symptoms don't mean anything

Does anyone have any proper advice about having a brow tint? I’ve googled and it’s all contradictory.
Definitely get a patch test! I regularly got my eyebrows and eyelashes tinted pre pregnancy. My salon insisted on a patch test (it was after a period of covid closure). I had the most horrendous reaction to the point where a gp thought it was shingles (it wasn’t, it was a reaction to the dye).

Awful isn’t it? There’s a lot of secondhand stuff on Facebook marketplace, and i think I’ll be taking advantage of that over the coming months.
Same here, it’s my first and always said I’d love everything brand new for my first but no way is it affordable (for me anyway)

Hi everyone. I have a question, hope this is the right thread. I’m 6 weeks and 2 days (found out at around 2 weeks) and I would say from around week 3 my boobs became really sore and my nipples would go hard and soft at random times throughout the day. I started to have very mild heartburn after meals but never had any other symptoms other than a slight nausea when in the car. Since last week (so about 5.5 weeks) my boobs have suddenly stopped hurting and I don’t have ANY other symptoms at all. From Google I understand that a sudden loss of pregnancy symptoms can be a sign of miscarriage but I haven’t had any bleeding, just discharge but again I understand that that’s pretty normal in pregnancy… did anyone else experience this at all at around 5.5 weeks? Never thought I’d be wishing for some form of morning sickness and sore boobs but I’m worried I’ve had a miscarriage….
I had similar anxiety because I had quite sporadic symptoms. I remember going swimming at about 5 weeks and I’ve never felt nipple pain like it because the water was too cold for me. It was more pain right across my chest like all my blood vessels were freezing.
I then had nausea, a couple of food aversions and I was quite tired on and off up until about 13 weeks when everything eased off, to the point where I didn’t think I was pregnant anymore. The first scan couldn’t have come quick enough. I was sure there was something wrong because of lack of symptoms, but lone behold I lay down on that bed to be scanned and there THEY (2 little people) were on the scan!
Mind you I wouldn’t want to have the symptoms I did have again. Thinking back, they were enough for me and I really feel for those who have it much worse in terms of sickness.
