Booked in for a section for the morning as induction failed! I’m so so nervous 😩 they explained I wouldn’t get to hold him for about 10 minutes which breaks me
So sorry to hear it's not going as you planned lovely!

If it makes you feel any better my friend had an elective c section and they were able to choose the music the baby was born to, so she chose her favourite lovely Disney song making the moment even more beautiful for them and made me cry when she told me. And ten minutes in a life time is just a tiny tiny moment really x

Had another midwife’s today, I see them more than I see members of my family I swear 🤣 Got my results back about the diabetes, the results were normal again!
Lots of talk about not going past 40 weeks due to size of baby and cos I’ve got glucose still in my wee, they said either being induced or c section

After the appointment I came home and cried, not because I feel sad, just because there’s lot of decisions and options to think about soon as I’m 34 weeks today, feels like 40 weeks is around the corner 😬

I'm feeling all these comments in my soul
I've already has the guilt trip "please consider my feelings" when I said we might want some time to work out how we feel/what we're doing after baby is born.
Those who have other children - how long before you had the world on your doorstep? I can't think of anything worse than having to put on a performance with a newborn when we won't even have a clue what we're doing! Ideally would like a couple of weeks and to be honest I don't even care if it's selfish at this point!

it says on citizens advise website within four weeks of your due date, no mention of expected maternity leave date
Oh sorry!! You're absolutely right - sorry, I've been reading so many policies about various things that my brain is completely fried!

@Ro98 I think I also gave you some duff advice about when maternity leave will be triggered, sorry! Hopefully you ignored me and found proper advice about it 😅

I guess baby brain has finally hit 🥴

Does anyone know exactly why they change your due date at the dating scan? I know baby’s can measure different but surely sticking with your dates is more accurate for that reason? I’m 10000% on my dates even implantation and ovulation but they brought my due date forward by 5 days. My girls were big babies so I’m assuming this one is too. I had scans at 6 weeks and 9 weeks which were accurate on my dates, but now at 13 weeks they’re putting me at nearly 14. I know it’s not a big deal but it’s annoyed me haha.
Pretty sure at your 12 weeks dating scan is where they will give you the due date and it won’t be changed

Hi ladies,
Please could anyone share some advice regarding early pregnancy?
I’m around 6 weeks (I had a miscarriage at this point last October) and I constantly feel “wet” (sorry TMI!!) down below. I’ve read that it’s normal to have an increase in discharge in early weeks but I find myself going to the toilet all the time to check it’s not the sign of another miscarriage!
Any advice greatfully received!
Hi! Sorry about your loss, pregnancy afterwards is definitely a minefield of emotions. I was like this, and found wearing a pad more comfortable and reassuring as I could quickly see the colour when I went to the toilet x

Boundary talk

When I had my 3yo, my in laws were on my doorstep when I got home at 8:30pm after being in hospital for days, I was sore, I just wanted to try and establish breastfeeding and relax. But there they were, they then didn’t leave until just before midnight and I had nothing but criticism, put the heating on, she needs a hat, wouldn’t it just be easier to give her a bottle then I can feed her too etc. Her wardrobe was rearranged, because I’d ‘done it wrong.’ Expected drinks to be made for them, because you know, we hadn’t just had a baby or anything. Didn’t hand back baby when she was crying.

This then continued for 5 days until I rang my dad in tears to get them to leave my house because I felt smothered and at that point MrGG just thought it was helpful without realising what it was doing to my mental health. They constantly turned up without invitation, commented on our house being a little untidy (of course it was we’d just brought home a newborn) and the constant comparisons to what they did in their day was absolutely unbearable.

With babyGG we completely cut visitors out from coming to us initially. We went to them (which isn’t for everybody but I had a very quick labour, straightforward birth and I felt absolutely fine to do that) but having said that if I had tore badly again or needed an emergency section, our plan was to invite people when we were all ready as it’s a big transition for a 3yo as well. We just said from the beginning to family members you’ll be welcome to visit for half an hour but we will let you know when that is.

I have to admit I do now more often than not respond quite sarcastically to the comparisons in what we do now to what people did then, normally a little comment like oh yes because science and research hasn’t developed in the 30 years since you last had a newborn etc. I don’t justify my choices to anybody, I just now say that suited baby best and that suits me best. I’m not scared now to go and take my baby away from a family member if he’s crying and they initially don’t offer to hand him over, I just go and take him. It’s hard but I really think it’s so much easier to set those boundaries before baby is here when there’s less emotion involved. This time around I didn’t give a shit if it caused upset, my attitude was you either want to respect what I’m asking or you don’t want to see the baby, either suited me.
That sounds so awful for you, I’m glad you were able to establish the boundaries for baby 2.
Reminds me of when my baby was 3 weeks old and crying, and my MIL told me to leave her as it would make her lungs stronger 😳 when I got up and said “yeah I’m going to get her” she said “ooo that manipulation starts young”. Thankfully she’s learnt to stfu after a number of these incidents led to my husband telling her to 😂

Was my due date yesterday. Went for a walk had a madras and had sex which was a challenge and nothing. Currently have my three year old sleeping on me as she’s not well again after first week back at preschool 🥴
🙋🏻‍♀️ was my due date yesterday too… on Friday I was 2cm dilated and had a sweep so was very optimistic but here we are!
Bad timing on your little girl, of all weeks! Hope she feels better soon x

Absolutely full of cold, pressure in my head and ears, chesty and struggling to catch my breath at times. Worried about flu/Covid as there’s so much around at my work and people refuse to stay off when they’re ill. Will do a Covid test later, but if that’s negative, what’s my next step? Do I need to contact my midwife?
Maybe yours are different, but mine wouldn't want to know if I had a stinking cold. Do you think you need any medication? A GP might be the best bet if you think you have an ear infection/chest infection or something x

For any of you who have already had a baby, how close were your instincts on when they’d be born?
From day one, I’ve just had a feeling our baby will be early. I know it doesn’t follow a pattern, but both me and my partner were two-three weeks early, and baby has been measuring big so far.

I’m a bridesmaid at a wedding in the summer (baby should be about 2 months old by this point) but the hen party is in May. We don’t have an exact date yet other than ‘some time in May’ but that’ll make me 35-39 weeks pregnant. It’s a good couple of hours train ride away and while it’s a casual event, I’m a bit weary being that far away from home while super pregnant.
I’m almost 34 weeks (first baby so only going off how I feel!) and I’m not venturing more than 45 mins away from home now in the car. That’s only because of how I feel, and tbh no way am I up for going on a train anymore.

My sister is getting married in July and there’s no kids or babies and I’m a bit nervous about being away from my 3/4 month old baby for a few hours :(

Positive induction stories please? Baby cheese is getting their eviction notice in 2 weeks time... Eeep.
My first was an induction, they put the hormone in at lunchtime and he was here at 9:42pm! They’d told me not to expect him until the next day, being my first, small baby and an induction but he proved them wrong haha.
They didn’t believe me when I said I felt the urge to push though, but I insisted I really did and they checked me and I’d suddenly gone from 4cm to 9! Next thing my legs were in stirrups and he arrived soon after.
Good luck :)

Thank you all, I appreciate the reassurance. I didn’t take my notes as it was a rushed trip so I haven’t got anything written down at all. I guess I could ask my midwife or doctor to write a note as it’ll likely be on my files now, but I don’t feel like I should have to for one day! It’s my first day off too considering I suffered awful nausea for the first 2 months I’ve done pretty well! My boss is the biggest C*** I’ve ever met I’m glad it’s not just me seeing it
---

I think it’s because they don’t believe my reason for being off work so wanted to ‘catch me out’ I’ve been bullied by these people since the day I told them I’m pregnant! I’m now weighing up if the maternity pay package is worth all this stress. I work in a school and yes UK.
I’ve had so much bother with my work since becoming pregnant and I’m also working in a school in the UK. I don’t think I’ll be back tbh cos I’d the way they’ve been treating me. But you can self certify for a week you’re not in the wrong at all here, and seeing as it’s pregnancy related you can’t be absence managed on it either.

Thank you! Congratulations to you too.
I’ve been very nauseous but it’s not been too bad compared to my previous two, fingers crossed it stays that way! How are you feeling?

Does anyone know if you can buy baby aspirin without a prescription somewhere?
My midwife told me to buy some for my blood pressure but pharmacies have told me she should have prescribed it. I can’t get through to her so I’m a bit lost for answers.
I used to buy the 75mg tablets and take 2. They always said they could do me a prescription but I never bothered because they’re not that expensive. I used to get mine mainly from Boots or just the local coop used to have some. Pharmacies normally wouldn’t sell any due to the fact it’s only recommended in pregnancy in certain circumstances (all my experiences obviously)

Hello everyone! I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant 👋 I still feel like I'm still too early to join this thread! This will be baby number 2 for us!

I've got another scan tomorrow and scanxiety is getting the better of me again!

I've had spotting on an off since I had my positive test, but thankfully had an early scan at 6 weeks after a previous ectopic which confirmed it was in the right place and there was a heartbeat too!

I've had more spotting this week though and last time they couldn't work out any reason I would be bleeding.

Also anyone had any kind of jabby pains here and there at 8 week???
Welcome! I remember seeing your posts on the TTC thread, it’s an amazing feeling to graduate to this one isn’t it!

Oh you poor thing, you’ve had a horrible week. I had an in person antenatal class today and they spoke about prolonged inductions like yours, it’s awful how common it is.

Is there any reason you can’t have immediate skin to skin contact/ hold him? The midwife today said it’s definitely possible for them to put him straight on you after a caesarean in the operating theatre and as the benefits of skin to skin are so great it’s what’s recommended. My trust offer a “gentle caesarean” which uses aspects of your original birth plan and seems to be a less clinical sounding delivery, it might be worth have a Google. She also told us over and over again that our births are our own and that sometimes consultants don’t think of us as people as such and to remember that our wishes count. Xx

Today I got emotional with my hubby because I couldn’t get a seat in a cafe for a hot chocolate. Pregnancy is funnnn! 😂😂

ETA: I have my glucose testing next week - can we drink water, or is it a total fast?
I cried at an advert for bedding on TikTok because it had Christmas music and I was sad Christmas went by so fast 🫣😂

29 weeks and my partner told me yesterday (was quite upset which is so unlike him!!) he feels quite anxious (not all the time just occasionally), hopes he’s not going to be a rubbish dad & feels unprepared/less confident compared to me.
I tried to reassure him it’s normal to feel that way, it’s a lot of unknown / pressure etc.
Family do sometimes comment when he holds other babies (lift their head, move them this way etc) so I think I’m going to tell them to stop it before baby is born (he’s never unsafe holding them) as I’d get pissed off if people did the same.

Has anyone else’s partner thought the same? Any ideas on how I can reassure him?
We have some online classes booked and have a hypnobirthing pack to do once we’ve moved house this weekend so hoping those will help!
Any other ideas please shout them out 🙏
My husband was the same. Never had much involvement with babies, only really held them briefly, didn’t even know where to begin with changing a nappy etc, whereas my mum had my sister when I was 15 so I did help her out a lot where I could. I have to be honest we didn’t do any classes, I didn’t feel like I’d benefit from them and they just weren’t for me. Honestly? He did some practice with a baby annabell of my sisters 😂 like picking up from laid flat, passing baby whilst still supporting head etc, nappies. I don’t know how much he benefited from it, I’d have to ask him, but when it came down to doing it with an actual baby he seemed a lot more confident, albeit absolutely terrified he would break the baby cos she was tiny. It all came in time for him, we still have some times where he gets a bit worked up cos the baby is and he can’t work out how to ‘fix’ it but sometimes he knows now you just can’t fix it x

I didn’t really enjoy telling people, I don’t like being the centre of attention and feel really awkward about stuff so kind of kept it to myself as long as I could 🙈 Also not having a baby shower much to the disgust of my friends, I honestly can’t think of anything worse!
My boss is away today to Head office and is telling everyone there on my behalf I'm pregnant lol, she knows I hate being the centre of attention and it makes me so awkward so I'm so glad she's doing it for me.

I'm not having a baby shower either and have been quite clear on that to my friends since I told them I was pregnant. I told them if they really want to do something I'm happy to go for a low-key dinner but I really don't want a big fuss at all x

Baby cheese arrived today via emergency section after 2 days and nights of long but seemingly pointless induction... We are in love...

Are swaddle bags safe for newborns? She keeps startling herself and waking up
Double check the weight as some swaddles are for a higher weight & not really suited for a fresh newborn. If baby isn't at the correct weight limit yet you can swaddle with a cellular blanket, just have a look on YouTube how to swaddle safely with a blanket to protect their hips.
Also check out the love to dream swaddle bags, they're suitable from 6lb
