I graduated in 2015 with a media degree and I can confirm the only people from that course that work within the media industry got there jobs because of a family member already working for the company.
Yes, I believe that. At the moment, you see Bradley Walsh trying his best to get his son established in showbusiness with that programme they have touring the US. He started a couple of years ago bringing his son along to tv awards ceremonies. Lorraine Kelly tried shoving her daughter in front of the camera. What is particularly annoying is that there is a very limited tv industry in this country and these people dominate that market - nobody else can get on the ladder let alone climb it.

I have to deal with James Grant for work and can confirm that they are all awful, money grabbing, rude, arrogant arseholes.
Thankfully it is only a tiny part of my work but definitely the worst.

Moe, I do not think anyone on here is homophobic in the least. There is(are) another issue(s) at play here. Philip coming out publicly yesterday appears to be stage managed. Apparently, it has been well known in television and showbusiness circles for a long time that he is gay, so nobody is shocked. Yesterday's admission came across as a damage limitation exercise orchestrated by ITV and James Grant management who appear to supply most of the presenters on ITV. Philip appeared on a Friday when it is Eamonn and Ruth's slot when he could have spoken out on the Monday to Thursday shows. Why? Either someone was going to out him in the Sunday tabloids and they wanted to get there first. Or, it's a great way of uniting Phil with Eamonn and Ruth on screen to shut down the feud rumours which were very prevalent during the National TV awards the week before. This is a great distraction. I believe the contributors on this site are cynical about the way this episode has been handled rather than being homophobic.
I didn’t for one minute think anyone on this site is homophobic I was just saying some parts of this country still is going by earlier comments.

That's why you don't see anyone different presenting on ITV.
It's part of the reason why ITV is so boring. A lot of its' programmes are past their sell by date, but each year they are brought back with the same old faces. When a new programme is launched, you know it's going to be Schofield or Willoughby presenting it. This completely overblown 'coming out' announcement was contrived both to save 'This Morning' and Schofield's career. The only positive thing to come out of the Barrymore saga was that it got him and his corny out of date patter off the tv.

Wow! If there is any tea you can spill, spill away please!!!

I haven’t been through this entire thread as i feel like I read enough from page 18 onwards.

My heart aches for everyone involved in this situation. Starting with Phil, you could see how terrified he was at the start of the interview yesterday. His hands were practically white he was clutching on so hard. What he has done is brave. He’s been as transparent as he feels like he NEEDS to be at this time. I’m sure more will come out and more truths will be said as time passes but taking that leap and coming out has obviously had a massively negative impact on his mental health. Hundreds of people kill them selves because they battle with their sexuality and especially those older who are battling the way he has been will find the courage to come and and live their true selves. Which is only a good thing.
Steph. I can’t imagine how she’s felt leading up to this moment. But. She’s stood by him. Not saying you shouldn’t feel sorry for her and I do but she is happy to support him. He said she’s known for some time so she’s decided to stay, she was only with him last week at the NTAs. So she is obviously strong enough to know her own heart and happy to be seen supporting her husband knowing all along his truth. There are couples where the wife stays with the husband through all sorts of transitions, they just love them and there is no way around it. She won’t instantly stop loving him because he has come out as being gay. She’s spent more than half of her adult life with him. Their relationship and their family is all she has known. It will be a massive adjustment for them both mentally and I think the way they have dealt with it so far from what we’ve seen and heard is admirable and only if more families were like this it would be more acceptable to just be your self. He didn’t go out and cheat which I think personally would be more painful. He hasn’t had a choice in this.
I understand the cynics and people just generally not liking him but he was never going to get this right. There will of never been a right time and he’ll of got stick when ever. I just hope that going forward everyone heals and once they dust settles they settle in to their new normals

If you read the article it’s not actually piers saying it they are quotes from people.

piers is a grade a twit but he was just quoting people who had complained
No, the copy is offensive. In the fourth line for example. Not to mention the overall tone is quite abhorrent.

its a sad state of affairs honestly. its all about 'who you know' and not 'what you know'. The children of these 'celebs' are literally clones of the parents.. no diversity with who we see on our screens at all! beyond frustrating! Im just grateful I found another passion and made a career out of it!
One of the saddest stories I heard was of a girl on my course who got her job as a BBC editor because she was sleeping with the bosses son.. and later the boss himself!

glad you were able to find something else, but is it a shame when you have put out time and good money to try to get into an industry to find out it is an unwritten closed shop.

Exactly this perhaps she was the one who decided she didn’t want to be with him any more and he took the opportunity to let the whole world know he was gay and cover up the bullying accusations...two birds with one stone maybe?
i hope the whole thing has happened because she has met a man that she wants to be with. imagine wasting a lifetime covering for a closeted man- if that's what she has done. i'm sure she'll regret that one day, regardless of the lifestyle. what an awful, awful waste!

Yes, "Breaking Dad". The programme itself is a bit rubbish but Bradley and his son seem to get on so well. I think they have a genuinely close relationship.

I honestly think this whole damage limitation exercise is going to explode in his face I don’t see this ending well for Schofe
Good find! I agree with you and if he does end up with more egg on his face than a frittata, it will be difficult to regain the trust of the viewing public. The public don't like being treated like they have left their collective brains on the doorstep. Now that it is alleged that he was keeping a flat in Southwark to have sex with young men, I can't see how his damage limitation gurus can help him now. At the end of the day, I think Schofield will stop at nothing to save his career. It's like Barrymore, their career in the limelight is everything to them.
