the only place I’m seeing these theories about blackmail and someone selling a story is on this thread?
I think people are forgetting it was nearly 20 years ago people like Steven gately were forced to come out. The world has changed since then.

I get confused who has even come out or not these days. No one really cares.

Not really comfortable with the immense admiration, "so brave" etc. He would have been brave 30 years ago, but instead he choose to use a woman, who likely wasn't consenting just to be a "beard", whereas she went into things thinking it was a genuine romantic relationship. He has claimed the public narrative to distance it away from the bullying allegations, and made public with such fanfare something that today is so mundane. His poor wife is basically limited to showing how "supportive" she is. else she be accused on intolerance, despite her being lied to and used for public image because Schoff, couldn't be brave to come out, or at least not drag a woman into his insecurities like this.

Think this is something prominent LGB spokespeople need to have a word with themselves about, it's not right to marry someone of the opposite sex, to use them for public image, to have children etc when they believe the relationship is a genuine het one. Even if we could understand reasoning why he would have been scared to be himself openly at the time, doesn't make it right. He should have just quietly divorced his wife, and gave her some dignity, instead of splashing this on the media whilst still being married.
He wasn't using her for fucks sake.

And if that's what people think then you really do not understand the complexities of love and sexuality. You don't know what's happened, you don't know how hard this is for him. You have no clue. And it would be nice if people would have an ounce of compassion instead of assuming the worst about this situation. This cannot be easy for any of the family involved, but you just think that he's been manipulating and lying.

I

Absolutely this! Lgbtq men need to stop using women in this way. It's selfish and callous, and accrual very common.
Again, he's not been using her. How do you know what's been going on? Also men can't be the L in LGBTQ, so....

So Pip's sexuality has been the worst kept secret in showbiz. Everybody knew and certainly at ITV it was known. So if it is true that his wife was his manager then I think she offered to marry him to give him the image of a loving family man (which despite being gay can be true). I do think there is a lot of love between him and his wife, obvs not sexual love, but still a lot of love. I also think they both wanted kids so either tried or went down the IVF route.
Also I wonder if the children was made aware at an early age when they would be able to understand the situation.

Also this, when asked about his wife Steph.

Phil: "I have no secrets, we've never had any secrets."

He goes on to say;
"She is amazing. She's incredible. I have never in my life, there is nobody in my life who would have supported me the way, as a wife, the way she has supported me. She's astonishing. "

That makes me think she knew all along and if not right from the very beginning, then very near to it. Saying you have NEVER had any secrets is a big statement to make. So prehaps it was a marriage of convenience that suited them both.
I watched the clip and picked up on this too. Holly seemed to indicate she’d known for a long time too so this def isn’t out of the blue.

If this is true, and she didn't know then he really is a piece of 💩 😡 I hope she takes him to the cleaners, how can any decent man do this to someone he says he loves.

The world has changed, but it's still not perfect.

Someone gay in the entertainment industry is such a non story.

The sun and others regularly gay bashed back in the 90s, we're a world apart from that these days.
The entertainment industry probably still has its issues, actors being cast only as Gay if they’re openly gay etc. And all sorts of other bullshit.

However in real life, homophobia is alive and well. My brother is 18, was viciously bullied from the age of 14-16 because the one person he trusted to reveal he was gay to, betrayed his trust. He was beaten up, pushed down the stairs and verbally abused for 2 years. We only found out when he was finishing school because he had been too afraid to come out after what had happened to him. Our younger brother has also had bullies have a pop at him because his brother is gay.

Who knows what homophobia he internalized growing up. The world is changing (in some places) and young people are more able to come out. However there are still people who get disowned for being gay, who are bullied and ridiculed for it.

funny enough the majority of gay men or women didn't marry the opposite sex and keep up the farce for decades.
Honestly several of my best friends are gay, you wouldn’t believe how many men are married to women and are sleeping with men behind their backs. One of my best friends was in a relationship with a politician (not in Britain) who has a wife and 3 kids and a harem of men that he takes to dinners and events at his place of work. I hated him because he had voted against gay marriage all the while having his cake and eating it.

I’m not condoning this behavior but I think it’s naive to think it isn’t common. And it will continue to be while homophobia is present and anything but straight relationships are seen as other.

Why was Rylan not at the Christmas lunch? Maybe clashed with something else but he seems very close to Ruth in particular.

I’m not at all shocked. Even from the broom cupboard I thought he maybe gay. It’s the big drama of coming out I don’t totally understand. It doesn’t change who he is. Although I can understand it’s difficult for Steph and his girls. Other than that it’s his business. Uugghhh I’m not explaining myself well. Basically not shocked, big drama coming out.
I think the drama needed to happen though because of his wife and kids. He needs to show that he isn’t going “tadaa im gay” and then runs off with a new man.

You could feel the tension between them this morning. Phil did not look happy.
I'm sure he views himself as a National Treasure. Must be a massive dent to his ego to be so mocked, derided and disliked. Can't imagine Holly being too loyal if siding with him will tarnish her goody two shoes image.
