This is what I think. I remember Phillip back in the day on kids TV and I always thought he was gay and remember being surprised when he announced his marriage. His wife was the Production Assistant on his TV show. Maybe they did have an arrangement and it wouldn't be the first time it's happened in showbiz circles.
That makes total sense, she wont have been immune from the rumours of him kissing/sleeping with men around his workplace. So you'd think this would've all come to light sooner had she truly been in the dark about his sexuality.
I think that was his way of letting people know, that he hasn't hurt her, he's never lied to her and she's always known.
It felt like an extremely rehearsed interview. Something he has obviously thought about a lot.

He seems to have the monopoly on presenting on ITV, like rot that has spread. They need some different people. Him and Holly giggling on This Morning is just dull and cringe, he'd push her in front of a bus if need be, the pally facade is just that.

I think his relationship with Holly is weird. I'm not saying its anything sexual. I just think it's strange with all the giggling and bff jokes. He must be old enough to be her dad.

I am not sure why people think there has to be more to it. I think perhaps he has finally got the courage to come out. Plain and simple. It isn't unusual for people to come out when older or if they are married and the sooner people realise that, the better.
I think what people are finding strange is ...if he's not planning on a relationship etc and the wife and family know what is the point of making it public ?

I absolutely believe the rumours are true, I’ve never liked Phil, I feel as though he never really listens when he’s interviewing and cuts in, plus he’s very arrogant when he talks to people. Holier-than-though Willoughby is an annoyance too, she’s good at pretending to be sympathetic but beyond that, she’s bland.
I very rarely watch TM in the week now, I always wait til Friday or school holidays when Eamon & Ruth are presenting. I find them much more genuine.

I remember watching the very first TM, Richard and Judy and the Albert Dock. They were my best friends when i was a stay at home mum haha loved lily Savage getting pissed, streakers on the weather map and Richard losing his shit on some guest/expert who was a dick to Judy (i think judy had just been through something, cant remember) so although Richard is a tool i do recall shouting " go on lad" at the telly

But no-one is bigger than the show as R&J found out.

I do miss the old R&J Christmas TMs when they would have the kids on singing carols and there would always be a naughty donkey. I left TM when R&J did. Hated PS even when he was in that damn cupboard and ruining my saturday mornings with GOING LIVE - URGH

Ok, this is another theory. Steph is in a relationship and wants to move it forward but can’t because she’s ‘married’ so Phil does the right thing and tells the world the truth because he owes her and he loves her. This way he gets to be the brave guy for coming out and the attention that he loves. She gets all our sympathy because Phil did her wrong for all these years so we are happy for her that she has found happiness at last. Because if they just split up and she went on to have a relationship quite soon after the split, the rumour mill would be working overtime. So every one is a winner....

Firstly, I'm glad he's come out as gay. Even in this day and age, it is still a daunting thing to do.

But....

This was purely done as damage control. Difficult to do none the less, but he clearly felt he had no other choice. He needed something to get everyone back on side.
That is the phrase I am looking for!! Damage control!!! That is exactly what it is

27 years ago was what... 1993. I remember 1993 really well, I was in high school. It wasn’t the Victorian ages, although it wasn’t as open as it is now people generally didn’t care too much about homosexuality. A lad in the sixth form was openly gay, wore a denim jacket that said ‘ahoy sailor’ on it and told us that he’d had a liaison with Toby Anstis (another CBBC presenter of the day).

what I’m trying to say is it would have been awkward but not impossible for Phil to have come out before he was married. He was a theatre luvvie as Joseph around that time, I don’t think anyone would’ve been stunned, except his CORE FANBASE of housewives.
Wasn't Queer as Folk on television around that time?
What happened to Toby Anstis and Otis the Aardvark?
Did Gordon the Gopher know about Schofe all along?
So many questions!

What I don't get about this is why announce it especially on TV , why not just get on with being gay quietly ..nobody cares 🤷

I rarely see TM but do find it funny when there is a cooking segment with Phil Vickery. Quite often Philip and Holly are larking about giggling especially if someone says 'sausage' and if they cut to Phil Vickery he is incredibly stoney faced. I'd love to know what he thinks of Philip.
I don't Philip is that nice tbh - I imagine he is ruthless.
I wouldnt be surprised but Phil Vickery absolutely hates him, considering the feud between Schofield and Vickerys wife, Fern.

Remember when Kevin Spacey come out ?
Now by no means am I thinking Schofield is anything like Spacey, but I do believe he’s been getting so much bad press it’s being used to try and counter all this.

waiting for all the adoration posts of brave etc when will LGBT be really taken as normal. I feel for his family moreso than Phil they don’t live in the spotlight and his statement will be placing them in full glare. Makes me think there is a reason for doing this now he could have announced a separation or something first thereby leaving his family some protection from this sudden shock statement. Also he has asked for kindness but not privacy for his family.

A patients parent once told me when her child got his 'make a wish' he was brought to Britains got talent and met ant and Dec and she said Dec was lovely but ant looked out of it and didn't talk to any of the kids
Well Ant was on more than just prescription painkillers, he said so himself, just as previous posters have said, that big is conveniently forgotten about.

I’m glad Dec was lovely though, he has always been my favourite of the pair, and was a very accomplished presenter when having to go solo, even though I’m sure he was very nervous about it.

I keep changing my mind on this! Yesterday I was quite moved by the public show of affection and how genuine it came across between the 4 hosts on TM. However scanning social media anyone else think it's funny Ruth hasn't posted anything at all yet most other high profile personalities have.
She hasn’t and she won’t ... it’s one thing to be seen as sympathetic and the TM team all rallying round him to be supportive
and totally another to actually be personally supportive... the jokes Eamonn made were to cover awkwardness from weeks of animosities.

I wish they would bring back a much better version of the Jeremy Kyle show for the 09.25am slot, I used to watch Trisha back in the day and that was alright. Also Vanessa before her. Something with real people's issues and an audience but not dodgy AF like JK.

I don't watch very often anymore but I did like Phil and Holly. I think all of this going on will push them to leave now (maybe not immediately but in the near future).
My hope would be for Rylan and Alison to present it, love them both

Can I ask a question, which to be honest is probably due to my own ignorance about the situation...
Would it not be more accurate to say he’s bisexual? (I know he may identify as gay which is totally fine obviously, I know it’s completely his choice) but I was just thinking if he was able to have sex with a woman? Without being crude, I say ‘able’ because well, we all know how men’s bodies work lol. I thought the term ‘gay’ was generally for somebody who is attracted to the same sex?
Does anybody understand what I mean? Lol.
Awkward question to ask really as I don’t want to offend anyone who is gay or bi etc etc just genuinely trying to learn I guess.

I can’t imagine Ruth would’ve complained over one incident, it’s obviously been building up

itv need to have a complete cull of their presenter , Bradley Walsh not included obviously

It says on a DM article hes doing a interview with a Sunday paper. This is what makes me think he was forced. I mean why do you need to do a interview? you just put out a lengthy statement and appeared on This Morning that's enough IMO. Its a big issue because hes played the loving hubby for 27 yrs when its all been a sham. If he wasn't married and just came out as gay it wouldn't have been such a big deal.
