Being a Northerner, I have laughed my socks off at some of Peter Kay's routines, as well as Car Share and some of the other shows he has done. It's been when he's on chat shows and the like when I've found him annoying. It's like he has to hog the attention and doesn't seem to let anyone else shine. He interrupts when others are being interviewed and has to make it about him. Fine, if he's the one man show but not when you're sharing a platform with others (even if those 'others' are egotistical themselves). It's plain rude. I'm not going to be in the queue to see him live but I will be looking out for what he does next, if I'm honest.

I've not seen him for a while, when did he start to look so old and wizened? It's a good job they put a caption up as without hearing him speak I would not have recognised him.

We all know he's been very ill and that will obviously have taken its toll on him as well as him losing a lot of weight.

But he looks completely unrecognisable. This is one of those images of someone where the Daily Heil etc. would be justified in saying "star looks UNRECOGNISABLE"

Manford being described as 'woke' was not what I had on my bingo card any time soon. The guy is a raging misogynist who openly messages girls on social media, offering to finger them etc. He's a fucking wrong 'un. & about as funny as a bucket of cold sick.

I'm clearly in the minority on here but I can't stand the sight of him anymore.

In the early days, I loved him but then I got sick of hearing the same jokes over and over again together with his overwhelming, childish need to be the centre of attention on anything he appears on - I'm specifically thinking Parkinson, Jonathan Ross and Strictly <shudder> where he completely tried to take over. What an ego. Surprised he didn't insist on his name being in the title

I have long heard the rumours of his nastiness towards fans. I read on a forum ages ago that someone approached him at a garden centre and congratulated him on the birth of his first child and he turned round and said "what the fuck has it got to do with you?" That's when I really turned off him because yes, it must be annoying but there is absolutely no need for that. Rude cunt. You don't mind your fans when they're buying your tour tickets or rehashed DVD's though do you Peter? You need to remember they're the very reason why you live in your big, gated house.

It's no secret Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice, who worked on Phoenix Nights with him (and apparently wrote most of it) fell out with him. In fact, NF was quoted one time as saying it would be a cold in hell before he would ever work with him again (although I think they have made up and done so - must have needed the cash) According to Sally Lindsay, he was a nightmare when he had that small cameo on Corrie as well - telling the director what to do IIRC.

All that said, I don't wish any kind of illness on him or his family. I'm not surprised at all to learn he's taken out some kind of injunction to stop reporting on whatever it is - the press obviously know (the Daily Mail consistently dance around it) and it is clearly killing them that they can't pursue it any further.

I understand he wants privacy but you can't do public appearances looking like that and expect people not to speculate. Might as well say what's going on.

Actually I disagree. These days a lot of celebrities overshare to keep themselves in the media.

Peter Kay is entitled to privacy if that's what he wants.

And even if he isn't as good as he once was, he's got a legacy of Phoenix Nights, Car Share, Garlic Bread and other stiff.

I would love to see him (one last time!) but my mum's dementia has progressed to the point that she can't understand comedy now. So we stick to musical shows.

We've seen him once in Glasgow in the old SECC and he was fab. Susan Boyle was in the audience so he was having a bit of banter with her.

We also went to see Billy Joel - got the tickets last minute and Peter Kay came on and introduced him. He did about a 10 minute slot so it felt like we got 2 shows.

I just feel so old when I start singing the Corned Beef song and my colleagues look at me like I'm mental (it's all right - I know I'm mental)

Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice both wanted it to go on Netflix, but Kay refused - he’s said before he’d rather fans by the DVDs (likely because he makes more from it!)

Same reason you can’t find Carshare on iPlayer.

I went to see him last night and I did laugh because he’s still funny, but couldn’t get over his appearance! Good on him if he’s lost weight (14 stone in a day ) but I do believe it’s through illness. He also did struggle with getting his words out, felt a bit bad for him.

Saw PK last night at the o2. I’m 30 for reference and found the first part went over my head but my parents thoroughly enjoyed it.

He has lost a lot of weight and it took me a few minutes to really acknowledge it was him. I’m only familiar with snippets of him over the years but something about him seemed like his “jolly-ness” was pretty much gone, sort of like he was on auto pilot a bit? Can’t really explain it as I obv don’t know the man but did hear a few others say the same thing on the way out.

Overall was a good, fairly light hearted show though, by all means I wouldn’t see him again but it wasn’t bad. Echoing another poster - the “pudding” aspect was bizarre and like an awful panto!

I used to work for a national charity that Peter Kay had supported in the past. Everyone working there hated him, he'd been a right pain to work with, never confirming the terms on which he'd donate any ticket proceeds which made it a right headache when promoting the partnership as you can't tell the public that a donation is going to charity without being really clear how much (and it's the charity on the hook). Would never sign an agreement to confirm the arrangement (again, an obligation on a charity working in this way). So when his agent approached us again and we went through this whole rigmarole again and were told to lump it as 'Peter doesn't sign anything' everyone was so pissed off as it was way more hassle than it was worth. Compared to celebs like Ed Sheeran and Greg James who were absolutely lovely to work with. So yeah, he's a douche.

I could believe that it's health reasons, and the press couldn't reveal that due to health info being so strictly protected under GDPR. But it could be the health of a family member, not necessarily him.

I couldn’t understand why my tickets didn’t say Peter Kay on them so I’ve gone back to check and I’ve got THE REYTON'S. who the fuck even are they!!!!

I’ve even been laughing at someone on Twitter who bought tickets for the Harlem globetrotters accidently and it’s happened to me too. There was no way I was on a page for them I was on the Peter Kay hospitality experience page!

Maybe if you're a friend then he is nice but when I encountered him, without accosting him or even drawing attention to the fact that The Peter Kay was within touching distance, his behaviour was unpleasant and rude.
Yes, we all have off days, but when others who are your friends have met him in different locations, done work for him etc.... all say the same without you even mentioning your personal experience, then it's hard not to believe.

I’ve been out with him, when we have just been chatting, having a drunk, going for a walk - and you wouldn’t believe how rude people are, demanding photos etc. He’s not a fan of selfies, and certainly won’t pose for pictures when he’s with his kids … and people get really nasty when he says no. He’ll happily sign autographs, but you try keeping a smile on your face when people are trying to “secretly” film you.

He is very very different when he’s “off screen / stage” - typical comic. I don’t understand why people expect him to be jolly all the time - it’s odd to say the least.

After years of wanting to see him live (had tickets to the last tour that was cancelled) I finally got to see him last night. I was SO excited but I just dont think hes as good as he was, and believe me, that is hard for me to say after been a fan for years.

Hes lost so much weight, it didn't even look like him. He was forgetting what he was saying at points and just seemed really off. I saw Michael McIntyres work in progress the previous evening and even that seemed more put together than Peters tour. There was just no flow to it, and his deliverance of the jokes and his stage presence just wasn't as it used to be

The second part after the interval was better than the first and the ending was bonkers really, but just wasn't what I was expecting.

As I've said before (maybe not here) the issue with him is that a lot of his standup is Observational Comedy... that was observed in 1984.

And the rest is dad jokes.

It does seem weird to me that pheonix nights was a big hit for channel 4 and car share was a big hit for the BBC but neither of them are repeated or on their demand services
I agree about this tour being his last he's certainly made his money and obviously isn't putting his heart and soul in to it anymore he will always have a legion of loyal fans who think he's the best comic to ever have lived and enjoy his out dated and at times for the modern world questionable material (I mean Jim Davidson still sells out theatres with his shows)
I think he's a lazy comedian in the fact he makes a series or two of something then gets bored and forgets it's his fans who have put him where he is, I love pheonix nights but I kind of hope they don't make another series it could never be the same as the original and I don't think a lot of the original cast would want to work with him again as for max and paddy I think that doesn't need a reboot
I can't see him come back to main stream TV either after his offensive antics with Rob rinder on strictly the BBC won't have that now
I kind of think he's become a victim of his own success he's shit on the people who helped him get where he is and now can't come back from that

No one knows for sure as there were even rumours it was his wife. There are people who say they saw him in Christie's getting treatment and it seems to be a given it was Leukemia and this wasn't his first battle with it. I doubt he will ever admit it as he has always been private and sugar coated his life so I doubt he will ever say one way or another and the closest we will get to the truth is the fact all the charities he is donating to is for cancer of some sort.

I’m sure there was a poster on here in the early days that was hounded but basically knew through their job that he had Leukemia and yeah he had it before. They seemed pretty factual. Everyone went mental because it was a breech of confidentiality but yet everyone was speculating. I suspect they were correct. Fair play if he just wants privacy and not to make a song and dance, quietly supporting the charities that obviously mean something to him too is nice.

Just seen some photos posted of him on Twitter, Think it may have been him that was ill, maybe I’m reading too much into it but his hair does not look like it did in the past, I was thinking this could’ve been signs of treatment?
I hope he’s on the road to recovery if it was him. I also had tickets to his show but I have no problem with him cancelling, at all, regardless of whether it was for him or a family member. Family always comes first!

Those photos popped up on my phone's news page this morning. I instantly thought he was unwell, or has just gotten over some form of illness. He looked like a neighbour of mine who has battled cancer a few times now.

I know he's a very private person, but I do hope he is ok and his family is ok. He's a fantastic comedian.

I remember reading this thread when I first signed up.

Peter has written a Car Share sketch about his character having a cancer scare, and has thanked the NHS in a new tribute book. I feel like this is Peter's way of admitting he's been ill without confirming it but it does seem very strange. Obviously it's totally up to him if he wanted privacy at a horrible time but it seems it would be easier to just say "yeah, I've been ill" rather than what seems like a long-winded, coded way of revealing it.

Of course, I could be entirely wrong and it's just a coincidence. We may never know for sure and that's okay.

I see Peter has announced that he is completing his final run of shows with all profits going to cancer charities. Given that he is widely rumoured to have had leukaemia, the quote that the BBC has chosen to share could be a subtle nod/hint that this is correct?
