I got a lovely bonus spare period Christmas night exactly two weeks after the last finished and I was looking forward to a bleed free Yule ✨🤣🎄

I am almost 42, pretty sure in peri. Went to GP as I am struggling with mood swings, hair thinning and loss and terrible terrible night sweats. He said I am far too young and suggested the pill or Prozac and to come back when I am 51. (I insisted on a referral and I am awaiting an appt).

I did start Prozac and cured night sweats completely, but had rendered me an insomniac. Anyway, I saw no dairy can help, any other suggestions to ease the sweating or hair loss? It’s properly affecting me.

best advice is to see a different doctor. 51 is way too late!! HRT has really helped my hot flushes and sweats

I'm really feeling my age this Christmas. We've had a really low key lazy one and I've made no effort at all and omg it shows. Its so unfair that at a time when we have our least energy it takes the most effort to look human and be able to move. We've not eaten that much more than usual and I feel I've put on a ton - it really is true that youth is wasted on the young!!!! :ROFLMAO:

Go see a different GP if you can, you sound like you definitely need some hormonal help.

I went on the combined contraceptive pill at 41 for peri symptoms, that worked for a while. Then it stopped working so I moved onto HRT at 42. I'm alot better but it's still not perfect, but I'd be a total mess without it.

Honestly another appointment with a different GP. That’d bull and you shouldn’t need a referral . GP can prescribe. I’d also complain . It’s reallt clear NhS guidelines to prescribe based on symptoms and doesn’t sound like those have been followed .

That’s truly tit advice @Sour Pickle

Guidelines for GPs say 45 is the age at which you have to really take a woman’s peri symptoms seriously. I mean that’s bad enough right - as if some women can’t really be suffering prior to that - but it sounds like he pulled 51 out of his a.

Also, it’s a classic move to send us away with antidepressants 🙄

I went to see a GP at 44 or 45 with menstrual issues, she said it could be menopause related but unlikely as I was too young. In fairness, I was referred for tests and a scan. It wasn't, it was a 15" ovarian cyst, which did explain the pain!

51 is the average age for the UK and 45 is classed as early, but like with puberty, the average is 13 but girls can start as early as 9. So, anyone over 40, it should be considered as a possibility.

I'm pretty sure I'm peri at the moment and pronay have been for the last couple of years... Massive weight gain, exacerbated adhd/autism traits, anxiety, general lack of arsedness etc. I've been back and forward to three different GPs and only the last one seemed to acknowledge it could be peri. I've been having therapy to deal with the adhd/autism issues which helps but I don't feel like me at the moment. To top it all off I also had a stroke 2 weeks before Christmas, completely out of the blue so dealing with the aftermath of that has been tough. I'm considering a trip back to the GP but don't really know what I'm asking for if that makes sense?

Go see the go and take a list, I wrote everything down from itchy nipples to screaming rage because when I went in 12 mths earlier to say I was having x3 periods in 5 weeks I was told sometimes it happens & keep an eye on it!
took my list in of approx 20 odd things & asked if he thought a general anti depressant was going solve it. I got HRT x

Did the doc take bloods to check your thyroid? That should be ruled out too.

Thanks all for the replies - based on them I am going to make an appointment and head back, to see someone else. I can’t do another few months of little sleep or feeling like I am losing my grip on reality.

Great advice above re writing down a list of symptoms to bring along with you (advice I'll be taking myself too when I take the plunge and go get checked over!)

It's really tit. And all I get from partner is "I don't want to hear about it, stupid women and their hormones, just get on with it "! 😪

I’ve found it impossible to get a GP appointment. I can only book one for the week which is difficult when any time off from work has to be booked at least a week in advance. I’ve really been struggling with work so I’m reluctant to ask for the time off at short notice.
I had a cardiovascular risk assessment which has ruled out any thyroid problems, but has revealed high cholesterol. I haven’t been to my exercise class since September because of the anxiety. It’s a vicious circle.

Oh that’s awful. I am so sorry. 😢 If men had to deal with a tenth of all the tit we women do, it’d all be taken much more seriously. Period pain would be a thing of the past, endometriosis would be cured and menopause would have one universal treatment that worked a charm for every person.
