I thought the HRT would help with the itchy skin but I’m 3 months in and I really want to claw my skin off
It’s mainly around my boobs/body/legs doesn’t help that I’m large so my stomach flab is itching like mad 😭
Urgh the itching!
I’ve been on HRT for over 2 years and it gets better for a little while then flares up again.
I think I’m developing allergies as when I find a cause and eliminate it they clear up for a little while until my body decides to become allergic to something else that has often been used daily for years!
I find the Allevia brand of antihistamine to work best for me sorry can’t spell the generic name.
I also get on top of the itch by using over the counter hydrocortisone cream as it seems to be the only thing that breaks the itch / scratch cycle.
Hopefully coming out the other side of a reaction to a real Christmas tree but it’s left my skin damaged so trying to keep on top of moisturising to help it heal. Sadly the E45 CICA soothe and repair cream seemed to irritate my skin and I find Aveeno the best for my skin.
I also can’t use regular E45 due to the lanolin

The itching is driving me crazy too, I take antihistamines with loratadine in rather than the cetirizine one (usually at night as they make me so drowsy) and I find them quite helpful for a short while. I’ve tried the e45 itch relief cream but tbh it doesn’t do anything for me personally, I’m now using Dermacool 5% Menthol Aqueous Cream, which burns in such a soothing way that it distracts from the itching.

I’m finding the same re itching. It’s head to foot, scalp, everything.

Gone from being able to use pretty much anything on my skin (including essential oils) to just Lidl own brand fragrance free soap, E45 Itch Cream and their CICA one.

I’ve also had to have a couple of courses of Finacea Gel to clear up perioral dermatitis that started in summer last year.

I can recommend KinKind fragrance free shampoo bars - only 3 ingredients in them and they seem to help my itchy scalp…

Aqueous cream isn’t a moisturiser btw. It has detergent in so you might be inadvertently making it worse.

ETA that one is now sls free so ignore the above!

I wash with Sanex sensitive shower gel and Dead Sea salts. I have eczema and it is the only thing that seems to keep it under control. It might be worth a try. I also use the aloe Vera gel to moisturise because I think creams stop your skin from breathing. It may help alongside anti-histamines.

I've been to the GP today, mainly as a follow up to the stroke I had last month, but perimenopause came up in the discussion and how tough I've been finding it and how difficult my weight is to shift. I came away feeling quite fobbed off. She's basically advised vitamins, yoga and pilates and given me the number for the Better Living program (which adhd me won't ever do anything with🤣) Said there's no need for hormonal intervention and I don't qualify for the jabs (not that I was asking for them, she just assumed!) Can't be arsed to argue while everything stroke related is still ongoing. Might try a different GP as the one before her I saw did seem quite sympathetic.

When I was at my worst itching a couple of years ago I felt so alone as I didn't know it was a symptom.
I don't think it's talked about much is it?
And it's not just a bit of itchiness but a misery. It felt like insects running around under my skin. And I'd gouged lumps out of myself 😫
My advice would be keep trying different things if something doesn't work as I also found stuff would work for a while then stop. Perfume set mine off for a while then didn't 🤷‍♀️

Bananas, original dove and blue bold for me.
Crazy that I’ve eaten a banana every day of my life but it affects me now. Apparently the banana and avocado could also be linked to latex, something to do with proteins

I know you can get itchy as my friend had this as a symptom- one of her first major ones. HRT helped her but she did have to go back for a bit and get the dosage sorted. However, can I ask what your iron levels are like as well? Only because I have recently learnt low iron can bring on severe allergic reactions. Might not be the case in your situation.
Wow this could be a thing I’ve been anemic my whole life and I take iron tablets daily my levels are very low even with added iron might have to try and up the iron 😭

Weird question, but have you ever been checked for coeliac disease? Someone I knew had chronic anaemia and eventually discovered it was because she was coeliac.

That’s how I feel about it I honestly feel like it’s psychosomatic at times I feel like like I’m losing my mind a lot of the time with all the various symptoms.

I have cut almost everything all lotions and potions etc
I have been using antibacterial bar soap from home bargains to help with excess sweating and body odour
I thought the HRT would help with the increase in anxiety but it hasn’t at all

Yes I have ongoing gastric issues so I was tested at my last endoscopy!
i had a colonoscopy about 10 years ago because of the low iron too but they never found any reason for it.
My ferritin was 4 at the beginning of the year 😳 hopefully it’s a lot better now
It’s so crazy how it’s all connected

It’s so frustrating being fobbed off by medical professionals. I find it especially annoying when it’s a woman doing it . Definitely go back and see another dr x

I definitely felt like she had just dusted off her perimenopause text book and was going through it line by line with me! I would expect a female doctor to have a bit more empathy to be honest!
