A quick calculation, and this would've been the same for me. And, being 40 odd years ago, our Mother's would've had far less information and support.
Some of the things we've experienced we know is menopause because we're sharing here, we're getting supplements from Amazon or hrt etc. Imagine suffering all we do, with no help and having a stroppy pubescent teenager to deal with
God you’re so right! My mum was 35 having me so yeah it explains why she was insufferable on times! I was 29 having my daughter and I’m 44 now, I’m hanging on by a thread not to behave like my mother did but now I’m thinking I should cut her some slack 😅🫣 she passed away 5yrs ago and although she was a nightmare on times I miss every hair on her head

It’s taken a year for my GP to agree I’m in peri-menopause. At 43, I was apparently too young to be showing any symptoms. SMH. For a year I’ve felt like I’ve been going insane. I was fobbed off with anti-depressants and beta blockers & didn’t even bother to renew those prescriptions, nor did the GP notice. Worst symptoms for me.. anxiety, fear of everything, brain fog, anger & itchy skin. Last week they finally put me on HRT patches. However, I’ve done too much research about HRT side effects & I’m scared to use them due to health anxiety. It’s a viscous circle for me 😞

Does anyone else get bad tension headaches? I’ve started getting them all of a sudden. The NHS website says it’s a symptom. I don’t usually ever get headaches so its annoying me at the moment 😔

The hormones are strong this week - I can’t stop crying and omg the anger 😳 also really just want the world to fuck off and leave me alone but also feel really lonely - so that’s fun!!
I just can’t even trust my normal cycle anymore. My period finished last week but since then I’ve been like a bear who has been woken during hibernation (angry AF, anxious about having no food and wanting to be in bed all day).

Yesterday it took every ounce of my motivation to get where I needed to be. I almost threw up on the dog walk, I just wanted to be in bed hiding so much. I’ve no idea where these feelings have come from. I was asked yesterday (by someone who barely knows me) whether I needed to go home because o looked like I wasn’t coping. Ffs this needs to stop.

I’m on holiday at the moment and, looking around the beach, most women over about 45 are tending towards the egg on legs look (including me I may add). It’s so depressing, menopause really does a job on us.

I think it will take years to actually prove the benefits of hormone replacement that are additional to menopause symptoms, such as cardiovascular health and dementia. It’s so hard to prove in trials. You’d have to follow large numbers of women for years on end. Plus, oestrogen is a natural carcinogen so allowing the population to take HRT en masse would be improving public health in one area but harming it in another. There’s definitely scope for improving the lives of women over 50 in a really significant way as we live longer but we spend more years in poor health.

I took a photo of myself at the zoo today and I barely recognised my own face. I look so tired and haggard. I mean I have a chronic illness so I'm always tired, lol, but I look 66 not 46.

I've had awful PMT for the past week or so like the worst period ever is coming - I'm bloated, exhausted, nauseous, away with the fairies and just generally meh. Which would be bad enough if a horrible period was coming but I don't have them anymore due to the mini pill so is this just how I feel forever now - I can barely keep my eyes open let alone give a shit about Christmas and the gazillion things I need to do. Just urgghhhh

Not yet will check back in when they inevitably tell me I’ve got nothing wrong with me 😭🤣🫣 fgs lol

I’ve also had 2 CT scans recently so will be interesting to see if anything comes up.

I had no idea any of this could be peri related 😳
Are you on HRT?

I had painful shoulders and hips. I developed Plantar Faciitus. Then once I was on the right hrt dose, all those pains went away, within days.

Apparently it's inflammation in the joints from lack of Estrogen.

Perimenopause is just awful.

I have a wonderful friend who has recently had a great experience with the Newsom Clinic and has given me some wonderful food for thought.

Im selling like a crazy person on Vinted so I can try a consultation with Newsom if I don't get very far with my GP
I have recently had to go private as my GP kept insisting I use the contraceptive pill and not HRT. I used a company called Menopause Care. Which I would highly recommend.

You can pay over 3 months at £89 per month. That covered my first appointment and medication up to £90.

I had my appointment on the Thursday, 3 months worth of prescription meds were with me on the Saturday and a personalised letter about my treatment plan was with me on the Monday.

It was an amazing service and the HRT meds are helping so far.

Before that I'd been bounced around from GP to the nurse etc for about 20 months, instead of them just even giving me a trial of HRT. So I felt like going private was my only option.

It was so shit, as is perimenopause

That’s a pretty irresponsible way to describe oestrogen on a thread of people looking for information. Can you elaborate and share sources?
It's not irresponsible at all. It's a fact and I'm in that group too. It's why women who have had breast cancer can't take HRT and why it's not given out without restrictions. There are many natural carcinogens in life. It doesn't mean they will cause cancer at all it just means they increase the risk. My point was there are risks with HRT (as we all know). The risks are likely to be much lower than all the scaremongering that was common 10-plus years ago and there are likely many other benefits of HRT. It's just not a win-win so a complex area.

My mother was probably starting peri when I was hitting puberty. We had some awful fights. I used to resent her cause I thought she treated my dad badly, but I'm wondering was it because of menopause.

So many aspects of women’s health get overlooked, in my opinion, because our experiences can differ so greatly. One woman can suffer hugely every month and another not feel a twinge. Same for menopause. The human body is fascinating- and unfair.

I’m just coming on for a moan (again). I follow a really annoying runner who today is smashing a middle distance tri out of the park. I’m on day 22 and feel like I’ve been resurrected. I’ve just done a try on and all of my jeans look shit. I’ve been doing weights and walking loads and I can see the impact elsewhere but my middle looks like it hasn’t even gone near a dumbbell.

I miss the person who could work out all day, run marathons and ultras and still go to work. Who wasn’t anxious about driving or even taking the dog for a walk. This runner (and I know Instagram is a facade) just highlights that my body is no longer what it was, it won’t do what I want it to. I see runners my age smash events and look amazing. Why do I have to wear wide waistband shit just so I don’t feel constricted?

Moan over. At least we knew the 90s because we were there ❤ .

One (of the many) things I struggle with with this is it's almost impossible to distinguish between things that are just normal ageing, things that are something to worry about that are not related to perimenopause and then the usual peri stuff.
