What?!!!!!

I have just started HRT to kick start weight loss.
I hope that’s not why you’ve started it? I started in May and since then I’ve put on over 1.5 stone. I haven’t done a single thing different apart from the HRT. I calorie count (and had lost 2 stone on the calories I’m on) strength training 3x a week, couple of cardio sessions, 8-10k daily steps and it’s just piling on. And in different places now too, so I’ve always had shape but now I’m like an apple. I’m also on mounjaro and have lost a grand total of half a pound in 3 weeks on that. Seriously considering coming off HRT because of the weight gain. I don’t know a single person who’s lost weight on it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I put on a startling amount of weight on HRT- around 8kg in one year and previously always maintained the same healthy weight for over 20 years. It may be anecdotal but I found it added to a very unattractive bloat around my middle, boobs grew by 2 cup sizes and generally felt heavy and slow. Weight gain does come up as one of the common side effects from HRT whatever anyone says. Personally the negative side effects massively outweighed the positives. HRT seemed to help with mood and sleep at the start but after months and couple of tweaks about strengths and forms (went from pills to patches) slept became just as bad as previously and my anxiety was through the roof. Had weird side effects in the progesterone phase of skin itching and UTI-like symptoms, very emotional too. Periods were horrendous.

I do appreciate that HRT is god-sent for some but not everyone seems to respond well to it.

Has anyone experienced more sensitive teeth and gums? I definitely have these last disc months. I’ve had sensitivity in the past but not on the regular. It seems constant. It could just be down to ageing and getting longer in the tooth which is kind of inevitable I suppose.
Yes I did. Also had to have 2 root canals within the space of 9 months which was horrendous and I think are related to menopause etc.

I’m on month two of HRT patches. The tearfulness is unbearable for the second half of the month. I’m going to have to come off it. I feel depressed and last weekend had really worrying thoughts. I was interested to see you mentioned emotional as well.
Edited to add - also weight gain. Some of that I know is I have been eating more (separate thing) but my boobs have got bigger and that didn’t happen even in pregnancy! Really bloated as well.

I don’t think HRT in itself will make you lose weight. I found that I had the energy to cook better and exercise. The clouds were lifting so I felt mentally able to tackle not just deny it

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. If it’s the only reason you’re taking it I’d reconsider. If you have other symptoms you may find those benefits outweigh the weight gain. Any Dr will deny it causes weight gain, I’m pretty sure that’s because they know people would refuse to take it if you were told you’d gain weight literally overnight and not be able to shift it

It’s similar to the contraceptive pill and how that makes some women put on weight. It made me gain weight but most of my friends never.

I think it just depends as I’ve heard varying reports and some women have lost weight on HRT.

Contr pill never made me put weight on.

I have been trying to lose weight for two years, not an ounce gone. This is my final chance.

My sister lost a small amount of weight on HRT. I think we are all different and respond to it individually tbh.

I remember asking my GP years ago whether the contraceptive pill does make you gain weight and she said if you are prone to gaining weight then it can.

As others have said re: HRT weight gain..I think everyone will be different and it just depends.

I resorted to Wegovy in May and it's life changing. I've gone up 4 sizes in the last 6 years and am down 2 so far. Appetite is cut significantly and, most importantly, food noise just goes. Not the place to discuss and derail here I know, sorry, but there's a thread on it for anyone interested.

I’ve been on HRT patches for a few months and haven’t gained weight, if anything I’ve lost a little. Many years ago I did gain weight on the combined pill as it made me so hungry all the time. The patches don’t increase my appetite, which is good.

HRT doesn’t make you put on weight but hormones not being right can and will so if you’re putting a lot on, especially if bloating is involved then your dose may need adjustment. Not easy though especially when our own hormones are working against us. Personally HRT has made my body ache less and me sleep better as well as reduce my anxiety. All of this has made it easier to exercise and make good food choices which has helped me maintain my weight at a healthy level, something I was finding increasingly difficult without hormonal help.

i'm 44; been taking Evorl for a few months now; my mood is lighter, i'm more focused and don't seem to have brain fog any longer which is a god send. my period is regular but almost unremarkable which for me is massive. i've had terrible periods since they started in my teens.
on top of that, my sex drive is back and with that comes some of my body confidence which i feel i'd lost a bit. i'd also say that i'm feeling less dull or miserable.

other side of the coin: i seem to always have mouth ulcers or blisters - particularly on the inside of my bottom lip.

i'm glad to be on them tbh.
This is giving me hope!! I started Evori this week after feeling constantly exhausted, no motivation to do ANYTHING, unable to focus and loss of libido. I'm hoping to get my spark back as I'm 49 now and wany to enjoy my life!

Good luck. I’d say I was noticing small differences within a week. Everyone is different.
I’ve been on them since late July. I think in that time I’ve gained about 3lbs but that was mostly on a weekend away.
the positives outweigh the negatives for me. Everyone has different experiences but I’m looking forward to hearing how you get on. I’m 44 x

For me it definitely helps my mood and my sleep. If I sleep well I can face the day. I do feel like I need a nap later which isn't great but. Having no periods too is amazing.

I've been using a shower head filter the last couple of months and it's made an improvement to my skin, hair and scalp, all far less dry and itchy. Not sure how much of a difference it would make if the water was already soft, as mine is fairly hard.

I'd always had super soft skin until a few years ago 😥

I'm posting here as honestly I'm not sure where I am - but I'm 64 and I'm having one of the heaviest periods of my life!

I never felt like I really went through menopause - one month I just didn't get a period and that was it. No hot flushes, no dizziness, headaches, etc.I really did feel incredibly grateful. Over the past 10 years or so I've found that when my daughter is on her period sometimes it would make me bleed a little, but not much at all.

However a week ago my daughter just gave birth and I've been spending a lot of time at her house, helping care for the precious new arrival. I started a very heavy period when I was in the delivery room with her. It's still going now. I'd like to think it's all the hormones but has anyone else experienced this? It's very bizarre.
