I’m so pleased to hear this 😊
Mr dr finally agreed to prescribe me some patches. Really hoping they make a difference.
I only started them last Monday. Which patches did you get, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m on Evorel Sequi/Evorel 50.
day 1/2 I had a really dry mouth, and after that I have noticed having more energy but for my husband to notice it too when it feels very subtle to me, suggests it’s more than that.
(Also: sex drive increase 📈)

please let me know how you find them xx

Just thought I’d share this here. I feel like I’m starting to notice small changes since starting taking HRT through the patches less than two weeks ago.
I received a text from Mr Laz today, out of the blue to say he thinks my patches are starting to work, he said I seem more lively and more like my old self. Nice to hear.
That’s brilliant!

Got my blood test results through - my FSH is 54, which they class as a menopausal level. It was 18.1 in February! I’m 41. I was having regular(ish) periods, but no period for 56 days now. It’s been an awful time recently with next to no sleep, low mood, dry eyes and hot flushes.

I gave in and stuck an Everol 50 patch on at the weekend and then ironically a couple of days later I seem to be getting a hormone surge and I can tell I might be ovulating - I’ve always suffered from very distinctive cramping, pain, bloating and discharge when I ovulate, so I know the signs.

My question is do I stop the patches and wait to start them again if I get a period in a couple of weeks time? I’m worried if I carry on I’ll end up switching to the Conti patches with the progestogen around the time my period starts, so the HRT will be totally out of sync with my own cycle and I don’t really want two bleeds in a month if I can avoid it. But I’m also thinking because my cycles are increasingly irregular, syncing HRT perfectly with them is going to be pretty much impossible! I think HRT is easier once your own cycles have completely stopped.
---
Has anyone had their cholesterol level raised during peri? Mine has always being ok but is now raised. I have to see the Nurse next week.
Mine has always been very low and when I had a blood test earlier this year if was borderline high for the first time ever. It’s quite a shock when you’ve never had issues with it before and I’m sure perimenopause must be a factor.

I wouldn’t stop but request the conti now ready. I’m still in a 24 ish day cycle so swap at day 15 of the est only patches.

Well I didn’t like the Nurse I saw about my raised cholesterol! I said is it because of peri menopause she said there is no link which is odd as two of my friends were told at their GP practice that it was due to menopause!

I mentioned to her I’m late going through menopause and I’m still in peri. She said why do you say that? You’ll be in menopause. I said no I’m still having periods. She said you can still have them and be in menopause 😳 I said you have to go a whole year without a period. She said no you don’t. FFS 🤦‍♀️ I also saw a physio a few weeks ago and mentioned peri and he said HRT can cause breast cancer 🤦‍♀️

I am sick of ignorant health professionals that should educate themselves about peri/menopause.

The nurse sounds very ill informed. I think part of the problem is people do tend to nowadays blame everything on peri/menopause (not saying you are doing that) so they probably see people all the time smoking/drinking/eating tit and blaming health stuff elsewhere.
The HRT comment though - it does increase the risk of breast cancer. It obviously has been scaremongering in the past for the size of the risk, it’s actually very small. But it is still a cause so important to be aware and vigilant.

I’m a healthcare professional and it’s frustrates me that nurses and doctors are not being given or even researching themselves up to date information on peri and menopause. It’s not an area i work in ( paediatrics) but come on there’s tit loads of info out there i’ve accessed myself never mind officially. Another piece of proof that women’s healthcare is underfunded and researched.

A physio should not even be giving that advice which is wrong/outdated even the original study for that is dubious but also HRT has moved on from what you can actually receive.

I mean that nurses isn’t very bright if she doesn’t know when you are officially in menopause. Wow.

The old type HRT held more of a risk. Now there is only a slight risk and the risk is small.

I’m not on HRT but I educated myself about it unlike some healthcare professionals!

I'm also sick of it. I had my usual hustle to get HRT this month, with Dr insisting i have a F2F appointment to discuss my treatment and then the usual spiel about increased risk of cancer before refusing to give me more than 6 weeks worth of treatment.

Anyway! I think I posted this here before but I cannot recommend this podcast about menopause enough. It explains the problem with the study which was carried out in the 1970's on women using HRT. The primary one being that the women in the study who got cancer were all in their seventies and had not taken HRT up until that point, so there bodies had effectively gone through major change and adjusted to a non hormone state. And as others have said the HRT used back in the day was the chemical stuff not the bHRT we take today which is essentially 'natural' in that it is sourced from fruit and veg.

She either has her terminology wrong , or she is basing it on age , rather than symptoms, which is what they do with women who reach menopause on the younger side.

I’m 56 but told her I am still having periods and just a few weeks ago had one that lasted 7 days (before that if I got one it would just be some blood when I wiped that lasted a day or two)

When she said you can still have periods and be in menopause I said no because once through menopause if you get any bleeding you have to get it checked out and she still argued the point. She was a similar age to me. I said peri menopause a few times and that’s when she questioned why I was saying I was in peri and said I’ll be menopausal!

She sounds like an idiot. I had a doctor argue with me about how to use my hrt patches. She seemed to think I should use the second patches for 15-16 days, and I’ve only got a 23/24 day cycle!

I know it's been mentioned here before but the itching is driving me crazy, especially at night. Normally just a day or so before a period is due (so extra low estrogen) but it's been days now. Trying to sleep and my foot's itching, then my elbow, then my ear, then my little finger and it goes on and on. I'm ready to try HRT for this alone if it carries on

Does anyone else get styes? I’m in peri and have had a couple of styes which I’ve never had before. The optician said it was a menopause thing.

Once I sit down for more than about 30 mins then I'm as stiff as a 90 year old when I get up. Even if I had the whole world looking at me, I couldn't get up and walk off fluidly straight away. It feels like I have a build up of something in the legs and hips and it goes after about a minute.

Have you had your Vit D levels checked? Mine have been low twice and I’ve recently had them tested again and it’s low again. It causes me to have achy legs and hips.

Yes I have but didn’t realise it was meno related. I know meno causes dry eyes and I had dry eyes before peri, so they’re worse now.
