Spoke to lovely female locum GP this morning, who tutted loudly at the previous one refusing to prescribe HRT without bloods, looked at the results, said hormone levels actually still within normal ranges, but with all my symptoms she was going to prescribe anyway and I can collect it on Wednesday. The relief is immense!

Just coming for a brief moan. I came off the mini pill a while ago because my periods were all over the place. They are now roughly on a 26/28 day cycle but are getting increasingly heavy. I am on holiday (not abroad thank god) and was out today (on day 2 of period) and leaked everywhere. I had to use my wife’s shirt to tie around my waist until I could get back to to the place we are staying at to change. It was like a car crash. On top of that, I’m waking up, hot at awful times and an emotional wreck. I don’t want to go onto HRT because there are lots of other things going on at the moment and I’m not sure I could cope.

Thanks for listening. ❤

Does anyone else get styes? I’m in peri and have had a couple of styes which I’ve never had before. The optician said it was a menopause thing.
Yes I’ve had them a few times over the last couple of years during peri, they’re awful and can make you very self-conscious if they're bad.

For anyone struggling to sleep in hot bedrooms (mine was 29c last night and 27c tonight), I tried this out in desperation last night and it worked. If you have hair long enough to put up in a bun on the top of your head, do that, then you need to get the shower hose and saturate the whole of the back of your head and hairline. Blot lightly with a towel but not too much. Let it drip down your body. Get into bed, don’t wear nightclothes. You really need a quiet fan near your bed for this to work properly.i have a meaco air circulator which is so good. Enjoy the cold sensation of the fan on your wet head. Once your head has cooled down, it’s so much easier to sleep. I slept so well last night and even had the covers on when I woke up. I keep the fan on 5 on night mode all night.

Hope this helps!!

I got a duux fan, it’s so quiet I sometimes forget to turn it off when I leave the room. It does have timer settings if you remember though, which with fuzzy brain isn’t always 😂
ETA my sympathies, my bedroom at times last year was 29.5 so I know how awful it is

My periods have always been light. Looking back, the first sign I was peri menopausal was when I was shopping and I suddenly flooded. I rushed to the public toilets and it looked like there’d been a murder. After cleaning up the best I could, I had to wait until everyone had left so I could wash up in the basins. I went straight home. It was many years ago now but every time I go to that shopping centreI remember the exact spot I was in when it happened. 😳
I had flooding several times after that but I was more prepared - always carry a towel in the boot of the car to sit on if needed. Now my periods are sporadic and very light so I’m hoping I’m finally nearing menopause now. 🤞

I hope yours was a one off. I have bouts of hot nightly sweats. I’m not on HRT.

I just wanted to say in response to you thinking you might not be able to cope with starting HRT as well as everything else you have on…

I started it the week I found out my dad was seriously ill, so my first 3 months on it have been the most difficult of my life. I don’t think I’d have had the energy or stability to get through it as well as I have. I instantly felt a lift in mood when I started. Periods are still a bit all over the place but my feeling within myself is like night and day, so much improvement.

Also recommend belt and braces of a menstrual cup and big period pants!

Seconding this advice. I think I’d have fallen apart completely without it.
If you want period pants, thinx are great. The nighttime pj shorts are amazing. Possibly tmi info: some nights I get up in the morning and they have just held everything shut so if you run to the toilet they don’t even have any blood on them. The normal pants are great also

Question for those on the combi patches - it says I will start to bleed regularly again (currently have no period but this may not be to do with peri), is there a certain time in the patch cycle that this will happen? I’m worried I will just start bleeding everywhere and not be prepared!

I’d wear period pants just in case. I swap patches at day 15-16 and then bleed around 22-24 days, as per what my
Cycle was before. I’m guessing around the late 20’s. What was your cycle before?

I rarely get a bleed tbh. Period was going very irregular anyway so I presume this to be normal.

Just here posting to vent - peri is seriously kicking my a at the moment 😩 I’m on day 68 without a period and feel absolutely awful. I’ve got a period coming, but it just won’t bloody start!! I’ve had such painful cramps for 3 or 4 days now and my mood is terrible. I feel depressed, teary, angry….eurgh. No sleep and bloated. I’m surprised my husband hasn’t left me because my mood has been so bad. Suffering from actual rage. I know I’m being irrational but can’t control it. I’ve always had bad PMS, but this is seriously a whole other level. I hope this doesn’t go on for a long time because I can’t bear it. Has anyone else had similar? Please tell me this isn’t just me, I feel like I’m going crazy 😰

Well I didn’t like the Nurse I saw about my raised cholesterol! I said is it because of peri menopause she said there is no link which is odd as two of my friends were told at their GP practice that it was due to menopause!

I mentioned to her I’m late going through menopause and I’m still in peri. She said why do you say that? You’ll be in menopause. I said no I’m still having periods. She said you can still have them and be in menopause 😳 I said you have to go a whole year without a period. She said no you don’t. FFS 🤦‍♀️ I also saw a physio a few weeks ago and mentioned peri and he said HRT can cause breast cancer 🤦‍♀️

I am sick of ignorant health professionals that should educate themselves about peri/menopause.
Just an update on this. I saw my GP today about another issue but did mention what the Nurse said but she didn’t say anything about her giving incorrect information but just confirmed yes I am still in peri menopause and you need to go a whole year without a period to be classed as menopausal.

However, she did think I was old (56) to be still in peri and asked if my Mum had a late menopause (I don’t think she was as old as me and neither were my older sisters). She said if I continue getting periods like the one I’ve just had where it lasted 7 days then to come back and she’ll refer me for a scan.

I’m on day 5 of combi patches, second patch. My leg is SO itchy and sore where the patch is (front thigh). I think I’m going to have to take it off as it’s driving me insane! It’s not red or anything. Did anyone else have this, did it calm down?
I’m also being impatient wanting to see changes in what I think are peri symptoms and nothing yet but appreciate it is probably too soon…
Feeling a bit fed up, my fault for wanting a miracle I guess but also dr is reviewing in three weeks and she said if they aren’t doing anything I have to come off them.

I could have written this. I go around 50 days sometimes before it comes. Currently going demented so fingers crossed it’s in next few days. It does feel like going crazy. Currently heading out for yet another walk so I can cry in peace 🤣

It’s awful isn’t it? It’s like you’re an over inflated balloon that needs to pop and let everything out - physically and emotionally! I came on later on the same day I posted thankfully, although I’m already dreading the next PMS phase. I hope you get some relief soon x

I only came across this thread. Something hugely wrong with me lately. I’ve gone from being happy and content to this raging nutcase at times and I feel like I’m ready to explode. Today was trying to get kids books all sorted for return to school and I could have murdered my husband and he’s so good! 🩷Periods are still regular but very heavy and painful. Not having sleep issues but I’ve noticed my libido is gone on holidays somewhere and that’s really bothering me. I hate my husband and kids having to live with me when I’m like this. 😢😢
