Probably a question I should be asking the doctors but its Sunday so 🤷. Ive just started patches so hopeful this will resolve some of my symptoms. However I definitely have some atrophy so can I get some vaginal oestrogen myself or do I need to get this prescribed? Didn't know if I could purchase from an online chemist etc?

Does anybody get so overwhelmed with life that if feels like their brain just shuts down? Is it peri or other? This is the 2nd time it’s happened this year

It’s the only way I can explain it but basically at the beginning of last week I had a million and one things on my to do list. I was getting overwhelmed so then the housework got neglected so that spiralled out of control. Husband went away for 5 days which compounded the housework issue as he left a mess. My brain just gave up to the point where I had to take time off work.
even if I was sleeping I woke up feeling exhausted with zero energy (this was before the heatwave kicked in) so I couldn’t face doing anything so then the overwhelm got worse…
My head felt like it weighed a ton and even holding it up felt like effort and there felt a pressure in my brain.
Felt like I needed a nap but couldn’t sleep and a list of other stuff.
Randomly I have lots of skin allergies since peri and the hives were pinging for fun like I was being attacked last week.

anyway husband came home and realised I was in a mess so has done lots of the housework and basically let me chill for most of the weekend.
I was starting to think it was mental health but then I’ve woken up today and while I’m still tired the pressure in my head seems to be lifting and I feel brighter plus the hives have calmed down significantly. Maybe the fact that the house to do list seems achievable has lifted a weight so I’m not feeling as overwhelmed.

basically am I a basket case or is this peri!

That does sound like peri.
It's so hard to explain if you haven't been there.
A couple of years ago I had to deal with a lot of solicitor stuff on my own and I was so overwhelmed it literally felt like there was a massive brick wall all around me.
I was immobilised and my brain had turned to constant fear and fatigue. Everything was sort of slow motion and out of body. I was sort of overly sensitive yet strangely desensitised to everything at the same time.
Plus there's a sort of helplessness, not helped if you feel your body and physical appearance is out of your control.
I just wanted to be in bed all the time.
I don't know if HRT helps as I never had it for various reasons.
But so glad you're feeling a bit better today. Hopefully it stays like that.

Thank you, sometimes sharing and hearing from somebody who has had similar makes you feel less alone.
The slow motion thing definitely happened.

stupidly last week I felt too overwhelmed to even ring the doctor for help but I’m in a better place to do that this week.

I should have said I am in HRT already and exhaustion was one of my main symptoms at the beginning. This felt next level.

Yes @neverbeeninfluenced I absolutely hear you and totally relate to your post.

I’ve gone from being someone who always suffered anxiety but just about managed it, to being in a permanent state of fear or feeling terrified over the smallest things - always completely overwhelmed and unable to cope with day to day life anymore.

I don’t have any answers, but I do understand. I’m waiting on blood tests from the GP, to make sure I’m not anaemic or have a dodgy thyroid, before I get pushed down the SSRI route (again). At this point I’m basically like “just lock me up and throw away the key”. That’s how bad I feel. Want to run away and hide from everyone and everything.

Is anyone on here now menopausal who was taking the progesterone only pill ? I don't really have periods because of the pill so not sure if I will know where I am with peri / menopause. Having been on it a long time I don't really want to stop taking it if it is going to cause a major hormone disruption but also want to know how I know what is happening.

I was, and i went from not having any periods to having really irregular periods which absolutely sucks 😭 But I couldn't cope with the peri symptoms without HRT unfortunately, so I have to suck.it up.

Oh yes to the overwhelm. I had someone coming today to discuss new made to measure curtains for my living room and I was an absolute nervous wreck all day about it. Like constantly on the brink of tears. All I wanted to do was cancel and go to bed to hide. I arranged the appointment. I didn’t have to commit to anything today. Why was it all so terrifying?! It’s this profoundly illogical irrational fear that just takes over everything.

Thanks - so did you go straight from the pill to HRT ? I don't want to go down the HRT route as have migraine with aura but not sure what to do about coming off the pill. Maybe I am a long way into peri (being hopeful) but hard to know without regular periods to start with.

They actually kept me on the minipill as well as my HRT (estrogen gel and a progesterone pill) I was quite surprised by that as I thought it was a lot of progesterone, but my GP said it was fine. I was originally on 2 progesterone pills for the 1st 14 days of the month, then nothing for the rest, but they recently changed it to 1 pill every night of the month as I had been bleeding nonstop for 3 months.

thank you - the bleeding sounds horrible so hoping only taking the one pill has sorted it for you. I need to get some more pills soon so might talk to the nurse and make a decision then. I can stay on it until I am 55 apparently so have just kept taking it and kicking the can down the road but at some point I need to make a decision !

Maybe you couldn't pick the time but I find that arranging anything like that as early as possible is better. Get it over with in the morning where possible, otherwise like that I'm working myself up all day and the entire day is a write off.

Yes I absolutely should have done that. I was extra anxious because it was during the workday and scheduled between meetings and he was late. I do also just get uneasy about having strange men in my home too.

Thank you, I've only just been back on it just over a month, and so far I have had one bleed that lasted about 3 days, and then another that lasted 2 days about 2 weeks later, so we will see how things go!

I hate not knowing when my bleeping period is going to show up. My hormones are wild this week, i could cheerfully throttle my husband and i’ve spent all afternoon crying because my kids finished school today. (not because i don’t want them at home but they’ve had a really fun and happy year and i just feel so sad that it’s over!)

A few years ago i could have staked my life that my period will turn up tomorrow on day 28 but now i could be feeling like this for another week or even a fortnight and i hate it.

I was the same it was like clockwork, I’ve not had 1 since January so I’m thinking this is it, no more periods, but this happened before albeit maybe not as long then they appeared. I’m still getting pms symptoms but no periods, I’ve always had big boobs but recently it’s like they are doubling in size and it’s actually getting me down. Has anyone ideas on how to help this ?
