I was all for this then saw Dr Liz O’Riordan, who’s an Oncologist and has had breast cancer really go for her, saying she was making exaggerated claims.
That’s the area I’m fascinated by- the benefits to our health as opposed to just relieving symptoms- but I think it’s almost impossible to find something unbiased. I read Louise’s articles and agree with them then read a different viewpoint and agree with that too!

Oh this is really interesting.

as pp said its probably due to the lack of any bloody research into our health (it says in the book women weren't included in dementia studies until 1993!!!). So it's possible that HRT is really amazing for us and safe but the lack of trials cos its just womens issues means we don't know and something else for us all to worry about and try and research on our own cos we have nothing else to do ( you can blame this rant on either peri symptoms or the patriarchy)

Awful aren’t they. I’ve been suffering with them for about 6 months. I take evening primrose oil capsules that have been recommended on here. They have helped.

I tried black cohosh root tablets from boots and they worked straight away. Not a sweat until I stopped taking them 😖
I only bought A 3 month supply and didn't continue as mine aren't too bad.
(I think) the advice is take them no longer than a year.

We should make a wiki page for (peri) menopause with recommendations and advice

It was a massive issue for me and meant my sleep was even worse too. A couple of weeks into HRT and they were gone, nothing else I’d tried had worked.

I seem to be suffering with the embarrassing symptoms. Incontinence being one of the worst. I’ve not had a period this month and I’m extremely angry. My boobs really hurt too!

I must track my periods better. They come & go as they please😂
Are the sweats something you get when you are coming to the end of peri?
I’m nearly 51?

I’d say so as I’m surely near the end at 56 😫 and the sweats started about 6 months ago.

Why? Why? Why? Aren't students taught about this in school??? You just reach middle age and your life turns upside down and you're left to flounder wondering what to do, where to go and end up trying to sort your life out on an anonymous website?! Wtf????
I'm not going into my own experiences but half the population goes through this and it's all still some big bleeping mystery 😡
Pissed off with myself always down playing the rit that peri and menopause cause. It's a big deal for most and it's so weird how there isn't a package of offered help and advice when we get to this stage.

When can you say you’re done with it? Could my periods stop then suddenly start night sweats a year later?

This 100% I'm so shocked too. I also still can't believe my own mum never talked to me about it. She went through early menopause at 40 and never thought to tell me until I was 38! Like wtf??? I'm so glad more women feel comfortable talking about it now

You’re menopausal when you go a full year without a period but I think some still have symptoms like hot flushes.

I started taking red clover and it says it’s good for hot flushes. I don’t get those personally but liked the idea of taking them for other peri menopause symptoms

I started with the night sweats right at the beginning and insomnia, my periods are extremely heavy and were lasting a week. I was going to have the coil fitted but they seem to have got a little shorter although still heavy so I might just wait a bit.

My mood is off the scale again the last couple of days 🤬

So odd but just tonight I felt like I had a hot flush?! I didn’t know if it was because I hadn’t eaten - I felt shaky and hot. Almost like that feeling you get before you are sick?
