It's just so hard accepting you are changing. I just don't even look like myself anymore. I feel like iv lost a part of myself. I don't know how to explain. I just look tired, old and saggy. That's how i feel. And my emotions are everywhere too at the moment, I'm finding peri very hard I can't lie. I feel like I'm saying goodbye to myself xx
Totally understand this, it's so hard accepting our hormonal changes let alone any physical changes too. Be kind to you, I'm sure you will look lovely xxx

It is very hard, and I suppose technically we are saying goodbye to one phase of our lives before we move onto another. I am finding it hard myself because I sort of feel like an invisible woman now. I've brought up my kids and they're moving on with their lives but I chose to be a stay at home parent and now am one of the so called economically inactive despite my best efforts. I think us women seem to get it from all sides.

Hey everyone, am looking to see if anyone who’s started HRT had problems with their mental health? I was on the pill for years to control my periods (I’m late diagnosed endo) and being on the pill exacerbated my anxiety and depression.

I’m 42 and in peri. My last period was due 189 days ago, had my hormones checked about 4 months ago which show I’m in the menopausal range. This all started mid 2021 as I’d been regular since then after coming off the pill in 2011.

I’m really struggling with energy some days, migraines every few weeks, hot flashes and bad anxiety every other day, and a host of other things. I’m just starting to look into HRT. My GP told me at the start of 2022 that I was too young for it and put me on an anti-depressant which didn’t agree with me. Since then I’ve tried dealing with it but some days are harder than others.

My main worry with HRT is that is affects my mental health the same way the pill did. Has anyone found this to be the case? I know everyone is different but I want to make as informed a decision as possible, I don’t know if I could face another breakdown.
Which pill was it that affected you? I was on the combined pill for ages until after I had kids and then it really affected my mental health but then I went on the mini pill cos my periods were so bad and that was ok. HRT for me has only helped my mental health - I am on sertraline too and the mini pill and feel more stable than I have for a while. It’s so hard to get the right combo - hope u can find a good doctor to discuss it all with xx

Second the walking/exercise making a difference to everything - as bloody annoying as it is

We definitely do and the whole menopause added in seems just to be an extra kick in the teeth. Its overwhelming at times. That pressure to be and have it all, I'm exhausted from it all.

Just saw this on Facebook and kind of like the reframing of things.

Can't shift the weight from my middle.. I've always had small waist and flattish tummy but big bum . I'm a 12/14 but it's getting impossible to zip up my trousers but my middle age spread is taking over . Even doing Pilates isn't helping.

& my face shape has changed. I look like a potato.

I started not having breakfast and it keeps my stomach flat so even that I think helps. Tea or coffee without milk and sugar or water helps tide you over until it's time to eat.
I do this but have to have BOB milk in my coffee, a light lunch then anything I want for my evening meal

I’m exactly the same, can’t shift my tummy, then again just back from a very wet dog walk and so consoled myself with half a dozen Lindt chocolates, really don’t know where I’m going wrong

Whereas if I don't eat something to start the day I feel sluggish and unable to do much. Have also found eating earlier in the day and increasing the protein in all my meals means I sleep much better so again, have more energy for the day. If I eat a large, heavier meal in the evening my body is still trying to digest it when I go to bed rather than in rest mode. I've never been a snacker so that's ok

Is anyone else suffering with horrible reflux? I’ve heard that hormones can cause it. It’s making me cough and I’m living on gaviscon.

I keep getting heartburn but never suffered from it before peri.

Heartburn was one of my first symptoms. It was waking me up in the early hours and I felt like I was downing a bottle of gaviscon every other week. Very rarely get that now thankfully so that is one thing the HRT seemed to deal with.

I’ve been lurking a few days. Honestly think so much more needs to be done in regards to informing women of peri menopause. I legitimately thought I was losing my mind and even had some really dark thoughts as I was so overwhelmed.

When I started to realise maybe it was peri I started to take supplements and slowly I’ve started to come back to my normal self and been able to be present in my family again. Was horrible I felt so locked up in my own head.

With regards to supplements I now take Rheal balance tonic, magnesium, cod liver oil and folic acid (this came from the blood test I had at the doctors when I went pleading for help and showed I was low). I also take red clover as supposedly good and I’ve been taking Loratadine for 2 months, it’s actually an antihistamine but I’ve read it’s good at dealing with PMT symptoms and I do feel like I’m less emotional running up to my period.

When I went to my doctor she said if my bloods came back with nothing of issue that I could come back and get HRT so I’m very lucky to have such a proactive doctor. I’ve held off though as I still hold out hope my partner might change his mind about having another child and in my head I fear starting HRT will fast track me into menopause. That’s probably not true but makes me want to hold it off another few years. I’m 38 for reference.

I know what is meant about looking older. In last 3 years I’ve had a lot of stress but feel I look old and hard faced. I’m 50. Periods are erratic but am very anaemic due to issues with food🙄 struggle to take the iron also. Sleep is good. No hot flushes. Irritable but then I have a lot on? I just want it over really. I’m exhausted
