Thanks I was put on HRT patches so not too bad so far.
I been to a&e over the years and they just give me strong painkiller and sent me home, I think the cysts i Had came and went and were the most painful before they burst.
When I was eventually referred to hospital they said the only way for a proper look was the laparoscopy, wasn’t keen but so glad I got one as literally overnight I have had no more symptoms after going back and for for years.
Can you maybe just phone surgery and ask to be referred to gynaecology dept? Sometimes easier to ask over the phone but keep askiing its your body and you know when something isn’t right.
I'm just going to go back, they give me stronger cocodomal for sciatica than they did this.

Even if the pill stops my bleeding I don't feel as though we've found the cause. I was ridiculous waiting for 4 months of bleeding to pass before I went to that initial appointment 3 months ago but she was adamant that it wasn't the menopause. I've had a couple of scans and now she's adamant it is. The bloods they took didn't even look at my hormone levels or my iron. But they're not going to redo them because I'm on the pill now 🤷‍♀️

I told them that even when the bleeding subsides for a day or so I still have the pain. Which is worrying to me.

Like you, I don't particularly want these invasive tests or procedures but at the same time I want to know what's going on.

I'm going to leave it until weekend to see how I go and if the bleeding or pain is still here I shall go back. I'm utterly fed up with it. Its literally taking over my life 🥺

Sorry to be a misery guts but I knew I'd get a sympathetic ear here because I honestly feel as though I'm going mad 🙈🙈

I’ve only just been becoming aware that I might be peri in the last six months or so. Heavy sweating in the morning and lots of things culminating in my mental health falling off a cliff autumn last year. ADHD and OCD diagnosis quite quickly thanks to work private healthcare and when I described myself as unraveling after years of “coping”, the doctor explained that lots of women find they get a diagnosis later in life because during menopause, the drop in hormones affects all those coping strategies.

And now my period is two weeks late - I actually took a pregnancy test on Sunday. I’m 43! Negative so not pregnant, just getting older 😂

When I was pregnant with my youngest , it was a couple of weeks late before I got a positive test .

How old are you?

see if you can push for an MRI (or go private if you have funds), and get checked for Adenomyosis. I’ve got it following a horrific c section 2 years ago.
I bleed for weeks and weeks at a time. I’ve had 2 D&C’s to help. And I am in a lot of pain.

As pain is being discussed, does anyone have a thought about what I'm getting?

So, in June, I suddenly got a little stabbing spasm in my lower left quadrant - the iliac fossa region - nothing severe, but did make me wince a little and left me with this ongoing niggling, stitch like pain in that area for over a week.

I have chronic constipation and thought it might be related. Then one night in bed I pressed on that area and it was very tender and I felt sudden pain that radiated around my hip. Next day it had gone.

Now, I have the Balance app with the period tracker and also a poop tracker (yes, really) and fast forward three months later and I'm still get these twinges on the left, but I've noticed from what I've been logging on my apps, that it seems it flares up around day 13/14 of my cycle - ripe ovulation time - and will then last a couple of days into my period, then go.

I've not suffered obvious ovulation pain before, and from my understanding, this shouldn't last longer than a couple of days at the most anyway. My periods are normal at the moment (I'm 46 next month), bleeding and cycle length is as usual.

Has anyone experienced or heard of anything similar?

I'm pretty sure you ovulate from alternate ovaries so, if it's the same side each time, it seems unlikely to be ovulation pain. Can't be any more help sorry. Hope you find a solution.

Yes, good point. I forgot about that. Its weird. Obviously the descending colon is in that region, too, so could be that.

Yes I get this but as my periods are all over the place I don’t know if it’s ovulation pain but this month the day I got my period I had that pain on both sides, it was really painful. My period was also extremely painful and heavy.

I’ve suffered with very heavy/painful periods since my late 30s. As I have a small cyst on my ovary I thought it might be related. GP tried me on strong painkillers which didn’t touch the sides of the pain and periods were so heavy it was debilitating to the point I dreaded the 2 days of hell every month. After I had a period so painful I was sick, GP referred me for more tests and scans which came up back normal.

Last year at my wits end and 45 the GP prescribed HRT. Was on it for almost a year, tried the pill version and patches in different strengths- made no significant difference to my periods apart from making me gain around 10kg and several other unpleasant side effects.

Then at the beginning of this year I’ve just about had enough and ripped off the patch and started IF to get the weight off. To my utter amazement I’ve had the most straightforward periods in over half a year since then- no PMS, minimal cramps, regular flow. It’s been truly life-changing. My uneducated and totally anecdotal guess is that the fasting serves to balance my hormones. I used to suffer with night sweats but that seems to have subsided in the last month or two. No more heavy painful boobs either, steady positive mood like I can cope with stuff. As a reference I do anything between 14 to 21 hours of daily fasting, and drink only black coffee and water during that time.

I’ve tried it but can’t manage it as if I don’t eat it makes my anxiety worse but I have a few friends who do IF and have great results. I am overweight but I do feel it’s peri making my periods heavier and more painful as I lost weight two years ago and it made no difference.

For me, the pain isn't extreme at all. It's just niggly but I'm constantly aware if it.

No I haven’t but a couple of friends have and get on well with it. I’ve never liked the idea of something inside me for long and too scared I’d be one of those people who would be screaming in pain putting it in, I’m too much of a wimp 😂
I know this was from ages ago and you might have it by now, but honestly, I am the biggest wimp you will ever meet and mine was about 30 seconds of not even the worst period cramps I've ever had. I bled (lightly) on and off for a few months after it was out in and now if I do get a period, it is so light I rarely even need a light sanitary towel. I had the kind of periods that would determine what I did and where I went before so this was a huge game changer for me.

I know it works well for lots of people but you don't know if you'll be one of the unlucky ones and by that point its too late by then you're in extreme pain and stuck with it until you can persuade somebody to remove it. I know lots of success stories too but it's not a risk I'd want to take for me. That said I've never had horrific periods so that wasn't a driver for me thank god. Glad it's helped you though.

Anyone else experienced a huge impact on their sex life? It’s so hard for me to orgasm now (basically can’t without a bullet vibrator) and they’re so weak. Penetration is painful when it hits my cervix and also irritation down there after sex - itching and discomfort. Been single for years and now seeing someone and it’s getting me down because I want to enjoy sex 😰 I’m only 40. Still have fairly regular periods, but early menopause in the family - my mum was fully menopausal at 39.

You can book a blood test yourself online for iron tests etc. I have done this previously and they send the results to your GP.

Yep! I miss my amazing orgasms! Now it peters out just as I’m about to get there. It’s so annoying! I am also very dry down below and get itching but dryness is a symptom of peri. Mentioned to the Dr and she prescribed a lubricant but sex can still be painful. We rarely have penetrative sex anymore we just have oral sex but still my orgasm is weak ☹

You sound exactly like me. I used to have really strong orgasms, but they’ve weakened so much. I feel the build up to a degree and then it’s just anti climactic. I also now have to use a lubricant. My new partner is convinced I’ve made myself less sensitive down there because I use a vibrator, but I know that isn’t the case and it’s hormonal. It’s hard for men to understand I think! It’s tit to go through this when you’re with someone new.

He’s probably feeling inadequate that he can’t bring you to orgasm but men aren’t great at understanding how menopause affects us in different ways.

Even with a vibrator my orgasm is still weak. It’s really frustrating as it always leaves me feeling unsatisfied! It’s been going on for a long time now and I looked it up on a menopause forum and quite a few people had the same problem.
