A friend has recommended the Balance app. She said it’s a lifesaver so I’ve downloaded it

I only connected it was hormonal in my late 40s, just thought I was stressed and that was causing the extreme anxiety. Looking back and with greater knowledge of the symptoms I’d been peri for 4 or 5 years ie mid 40s. If you’re almost 50, it’s highly unlikely that you’re not peri
Same, i was 48 when my friend told me that my brain fog was probably peri, went home and did some research and I calculated i was around 45/46 when it started. that's when the insomnia and anxiety started
@ScrambledEggs I would recommend weighing yourself everyday and keeping a symptom diary to work out when your hormones are peaking.
I also have a mirena and that is what I did to manage my moods.
By symptom diary I mean anything, food cravings, weight gain, mood, joint pain, change in bowel movements, weeing, anything and eeverything to o with your body

I’ve not had a period for 10 years because I’ve had the mirena coil twice .. I’m at the end of the 2nd one now .
If I’m not peri does that mean I’m going straight into the menopause. I’ve read conflicting info so I’m hugely confused ( is that a sign 🤔)

I follow lots of menopause DrS and podcast but I’m none the wiser .
Peri varies in length but you can't naturally go straight to meno as without medical intervention (think hysterectomy) your hormones change gradually. A lot of the problems are down to them going up and down irrationally so our bodies are confused by the roller coaster. Its worse for some than others though and sone people dont get as many bad effects. As somebody else has suggested, download the balance app and record everything about how you feel then look back on it, it's really hard to see trends without this info. Good luck

Also the coil is uses in HRT as it gives a synthetic version of progesterone which really benefits some ladies so could be balancing you out

Can I throw out a question to everyone?

Without giving it too much thought (just the first word or words that come to mind) how do you generally feel - physically - on a day-to-day basis?
Worse.

Trying not to be too negative but literally everything is worse. Some things ever so slightly worse and some a lot but nothing is better at this stage of life.

If you're on hormonal contraception, you might not notice the signs . Some women sail through perimenopause and menopause without any noticing symptoms.

Women seem more aware of changes due to hormones now . Perimenopause is like a process , like puberty is , it can take years.

just downloaded it and I’ve ticked most boxes. Also booked a blood test , I’m at the end of the 5 yr for this coil . Has anyone on here had the Mirena fitted as a form of HRT ?

No I haven’t but a couple of friends have and get on well with it. I’ve never liked the idea of something inside me for long and too scared I’d be one of those people who would be screaming in pain putting it in, I’m too much of a wimp 😂

2 of mine have too and get on well with it. I had the mirena coil about 15 years ago. I lasted 6 months 😂 I was the same as you, I couldn’t cope with the thought of it inside me. I am such a wuss!

I’m on my 2nd , i just wanted to ask if it’s worth having a 3rd instead of HRT? I haven’t had problems with the mirena.

Yes, it can work well even though it’s an artificial progesterone. You would just need to add oestrogen in the form of a patch, gel or spray.

Hello Ladies,

I've been on HRT now for nearly a year and still don't feel my usual self. I'm not motivated in anything I do, anxiety has improved, memory loss, brain fog and general fatigue has not disappeared.

Anyone seen a Specialist in Menopause? Really thinking of spending the money to feel like myself again.

Your dose may need upping, that’s what happened to me after a year.
