Anyone else suffer with continuous bleeding/spotting? I’m on the combined pill to try and control my periods and since I’ve had my pill free week I haven’t stopped spotting 😫 really gets me down

I've always known I've had PCOS but the doctors always refused to diagnose me with it because I didn't have all the classic symptoms. I once seen a gynaecologist who said I can't have PCOS because I have kids... Wtf?

Then finally I was diagnosed about 3 years back by another gynaecologist and my GP finally accepted the diagnosis.

I bled heavily once for 3 months straight, GP would give me tranexamic acid 4 days at a time which would stop the bleeding while I'd take it and then as soon as I'd stop it was awful.

I've tried everything, losing weight, changing my diet, regular exercise. Wanted to avoid allopathic medicine so I went the herbal root which has helped soooo much, but a long journey of trial and error. But finally I have a regular period.

I know nobody has posted on here for a while but just thought I’d search for a PCOS thread on the off chance there is one, so pleased to find it!

I feel so so low at the moment about all of this as I am pretty certain I have PCOS but can’t get a diagnosis. Blood tests came back fine and ultrasound didn’t show multiple cysts - but they did say they didn’t get a very clear picture so I’ve got to have another scan soon.

I’ve got excess hair on face and body and thinning hair on my head. My periods have always been regular but the past six months they’re very early each month and this month I’ve had random spotting. They’re also very painful and heavy. I’m very overweight but trying now to lose it.

The Drs don’t seem to care unless I mention trying for a baby and then they’ll be able to help. What about my general life and mental health though?

They did say I could have the coil or pill but even though I’m not trying for a baby I also didn’t want to stop it happening (pretty relaxed about that) so those aren’t suitable solitons for me. But apparently it’s all they can do.

For now I’m just waiting for the next scan - but I’m worried they wont get a clear picture again as they said being overweight doesn’t help.

I forgot to mention in my post that the one thing they will give me is tranexamic acid - but agree it just works for the four days then after is awful!

Your weight shouldn’t really play a part in how clear a scan picture is too be honest. I’ve had an internal vaginal scan (think they call it a transvaginal scan or pelvic scan) a normal over the skin ultrasound if that makes sense - maybe an internal vagina scan would be better as you can see the ovaries and cysts with that. Unfortunately, doctors will fob you off with the pill as some magic solution to PCOS. I think doctors are reluctant to give a PCOS diagnosis if there is no cysts for some reason, I’ve heard of this happening.

What did they check for in your blood tests? Did they check the thyroid levels too? It could well be Hirsutism or Thyroid rather than pcos as a lot of the symptoms you’re having come under that too such as the excess hair, thinning, irregular periods.

I would certainly keep pushing it though, especially if it’s having an impact on your life. Maybe seeing an endocrine could be good as they deal with PCOS? I see a consultant every 6 months for mine.

I had both an internal and external scan - and guessing that’s what I’ll have next time. Fingers crossed it’s clearer!

I had quite a few blood tests including thyroid! I didn’t actually know that those symptoms can be caused by thyroid too though.

I will keep pushing for sure - how do you get to see an endocrine? Just ask? Thanks for your reply x

With the blood tests, I had some when I had irregular periods and it came back fine, however it wasn’t until I had more three years later that they actually tested my Androgen (testosterone) and it was high and they then gave me my diagnosis, for some reason they never thought to test that the first time around 🤷‍♀️ Might be something to keep in mind, maybe find out if they tested yours

Yeah! This is the thing, so many symptoms for PCOS over cross with other things!

I asked to see an endocrine about 2 years ago as I wanted to understand more about PCOS and my body and never felt like my GP did - now I go every six months. I don’t know whether they said yes because I already had the diagnosis or not though. But it certainly is great to speak to someone who understands all about hormones and the insulin resistance part of my PCOS so if you think it would benefit you to get that information and see them for anything that could be causing your symptoms then I would ask x

Well I might as well ask - they can only say no! would definitely be good to talk to a specialist as I definitely felt like the last Dr I spoke to didn’t really care and it clearly wasn’t her area of interest. I’m going to chase up my next scan next week and hopefully get that done and see what that shows too, if anything.

Good luck! Definitely worth pursuing as I say, my nurses at my GP were always wonderful and listened to me but the actual doctors never really seemed to give me the answers I wanted and reassurance which is why I asked for a referral. I hope you get the answers as I know how draining trying to find out what’s causing you your symptoms is for anything - let alone pcos! Let me know how you get on if you’re happy to share! x

Just this month this is happening to me! But it’s the only time it’s happened. Very strange as they’re usually so heavy.

So weird isn’t it, I goggled it and apparently light periods are a symptom of pcos but I am not sure what it means

Have you had the vaccine? I have and it's sent my periods haywire. I was diagnosed in 1998 and my periods were always regular, which I know is unusual but since I had the vaccine last year my periods have been really irregular and the first day is heavy, the next two days are light/spotting.

I know a few women whose periods are affected and I've read about it too so I'm putting it down to that

Hey, I came off my period 2 weeks ago and ever since I’ve had bloating and cramps quite bad. Not sure if anyone else with PCOS has had this, I’ve never had it before. I’m not sure whether it could be a cyst or something? Any advice would be fab:)

I’ve not had this, but I do have an ovarian cyst and it doesn’t cause me any bloating or cramp. But that’s not to say it wouldn’t do for others.

I would personally just see if the symptoms continue and go to Drs if it goes on for a few more weeks x

My last scan was a couple of years ago and there was several small ones then so maybe ones grown or something! I will ring them this week I think, just thought I’d see if anyone has had the same experience xx

I've been diagnosed with PCOS. I've found my periods are really really light whenever I have them as well as very irregular. I know irregular periods are part of the symptoms but does anyone else get really light periods? Sorry for the TMI but I used to have heavy periods and enough to fill a pad with bright red blood, now the blood is mainly beigy brown and rarely is bright red coloured and the amount of blood would be enough to fill a tena lady. I'm worried as I really want children and if my periods aren't even working properly or how they used to I think it's game over for me being able to have a baby 😩

My periods are very irregular, sometimes they’re heavy and sometimes they’re light. Try not to worry about being able to have a baby.. it might just take a bit longer or you may need some help but you will be able to. So many girls with pcos have babies xx

That's what was confusing me as with PCOS you usually get heavy periods and I'm finding the opposite. Thanks so much, I really hope I can, I always wanted to be a mum xx

My sister has PCOS, she had to have IVF for her child but my friend also has it and she got pregnant without even trying so everyone is different! I went to the GP and we had to be trying for at least a year before they would offer any help, I don’t know what your situation is but just in case x
