there's some genuine well meaning people in that group, things can get messing like the group funding peoples credit card bills and airpods for some reason? (didn't understand that one) but Im sure it all comes from a good place.

I used to not pay too much attention to those sorts of crowdfunders, but Jack has made me wary of all of them (probably no bad thing). That said, 'airpods loser' never asked or suggested that a new pair be crowdfunded! It's a weird mentality that people read a post like that and think "I'll start a crowdfunder for this". I don't know why it makes me uncomfortable, but it does. Something something most deserving/charity/best use of funds. I dunno.

There are a few men (yes, always men) in that group who are insufferable. Always looking to pick holes or antagonise. There is one who is particularly bad but who I would have thought I'd have a lot in common with. He is certainly nowhere near as annoying on the Facebook group of a band we both like.
I wonder if this is the same one who can be bang on/funny on some posts and then completely vile on others?!

Completely agree. I'm so much more cynical about that kind of thing now, which is a shame as I'm sure most of it is innocent.

I saw @lalalaletmeexplain on Insta was taking donations to her private paypal for a nurse that was broke the other day. I'm sure it was genuine but I just wouldn't ever risk giving money in those situations knowing what I do now! (side note - Lala is worth a follow if you don't already - she doesn't always get it right but she does have some sound dating/relationship advice backed by actual qualifications and experience, unlike a lot of influencers online!)

To be honest, when someone who is clearly unwell posts a lot about their illness and personal life on groups like that, it makes me feel uncomfortable for a few reasons. They may be given bad/unsafe advice (even if it is well-meaning). They may also become too dependent on the group as an outlet/counselling service - what happens when the group can't be there for them or inevitably give them the help/advice they need? They may also share information that should not be public or could be triggering. And what about if they allude to something like self-harm? What does the group do then? It's a minefield. That's why I tend to stay well away from any posts of that nature.
Yeah, this really worried me. I felt worried for the people emotionally invested in giving support. I felt worried for random people who weren't terminally online and would make an off-hand comment unaware of the wider context that caused a spiral. And I felt worried that the group really wasn't very good for them - it clearly was good day-to-day but in a longer term view... It all just felt a bit toxic and unhealthy.

I think part of why Tattle works so well is the 'no moderating threads' rule. If you don't like something, you have to leave and find a new thread, or get over it and carry on posting whatever it is you want to post. It kind of forces acceptance of other people's views. Whereas the PCD group likes a 'that was so not rainbow rhythms' shamefest.

On topic: John is absolutely, definitely, without a shadow of a doubt shagging Lou Sanders, right?

Hahahahah do you think?! They are very close... I know people raised it on FB and got shot down by the ethics police but I think it's ok to discuss here - I assume they're not on Tattle 🤣

Have you seen this? It's so funny (note how much they've had to drink at the beginning of the clip!! I think John has stopped drinking rum now?):

I think John has actually stopped drinking completely for the mo, he's been 'sans cans' for a couple of months on TMUW.

We'll know about it if they are on here, that's for sure! I'm absolutely convinced they are... just from the way he's phrased things on the pod

I always thought Coco was an odd match.
When I saw pics of them I always wondered what conversations they’d had about his outfit choice before they left the house 🤣. They also had a curious set up where they were engaged but lived separately, didn’t they

Oh Lordy, I had a dream I asked JR out last night 😂 (he was non-committal, lol).

Probably because of this chat, and then listening to an old ep to get to sleep. It was one of the isolation tapes - Elis is talking about r-rates and whether or not it was safe for the childminder to have the kids while he went to work. So strange listening to it - it felt like I'd gone back in time. I forget how grim it was at times. I genuinely think they made it a little easier with their extra episodes, though!

@DinoCharge you might like it here. Our very own skip, some might say.

Those isolation tapes are some of the best podcasts ever made. Are they still a good listen 'post' covid?

Yes absolutely 😉. As I've heard them all before I find it strangely comforting listening back, as it reminds me of the good bits of lockdown (appreciate I'm privileged to be able to describe part of it as 'good') - the camaraderie and 'all in this together' spirit. And even the collective 'this is utter tit isn't it' feeling. They were a highlight on crap days and a bonus on good ones. And they're funny, so even on that basis alone, I'd say they're worth a listen. I do inhale podcasts somewhat greedily, though and normally have three or four on the go at the same time, so it depends on how much time you have.

I'm relistening to My Dad Wrote a Porno - my god, it's just so funny. I think I'll just listen to them on a loop until the end of time 😂

ETA: it's podcast day woop woop!

hello fellow PCDs! I actually muted the main group in 2020 as some of the posts / in fighting / one person in particular was damaging the old MH. Once you notice someone / something they seem to become very dominant and this particular person shares many of my interests it would seem as I’ll see them post similar content in multiple fb groups. I haven’t had to block them yet but came v close.
I love the podcast. I think it’s super interesting how it’s changed over the years. I like the xfm ones but John seems to over use the word ‘probably’ and pronounces it ‘probly’ which sets My teeth on edge 😂 I am a laugh honest.
Anyway I found distancing myself from certain groups made life better and more enjoyable and now I just check in every now and then to see what’s going on.
Happy podcast day! Will have a listen shortly.

It’s so great to hear that this is a safe space for those who find the group a bit of a challenge ❤

It makes me laugh listening to old ones- Prod D sounds so much more exhausted pre-kids than he did after kids. He always sounds completed knackered, was obviously hitting it hard!
