I don’t understand the still bleeding excuse. Do these people not go out when they’re on their periods?!
mine was so much heavier, and I was so worried about leaking, especially when going from sitting to standing or moving around.

I didn’t mind people coming to see the baby at all, I wanted to show them off each time, but I was also recovering from surgery and wasn’t up for entertaining them or coking for them/ making the tea etc.

Maybe it’s just me then. Two children, both times just used massive pads, was back walking the dog the next day, visits as normal 🤷🏼‍♀️

Everyone and every birth is different though, there’s no shame in not springing back by the weekend.

I used to read MN when I was pregnant with my first, 2006, and I noticed a trend of being a tit towards the MIL and keeping family away post birth, seems they all become “mama bears” and just behave like utter idiots with a lots of comments clapping them on,

started reading digital spy and web sleuths haha

then finally found Home here haha

Agreed. I also hate when posters pile on 'oh OP, you will be bleeding from every orifice, your boobs will fall off...you cannot allow anyone past the front door'.

I invented some of the above 😂 but I do feel for any expectant woman, being frightened by the horrible picture they paint.
Also, everyone who comes to visit - usually the dreaded parents in law - stays for six months, expects to have attendance danced upon them and five course meals prepared from scratch daily. Of course.

I don't have kids. But anytime I have visited family or friends after a new baby is born, I have gladly done anything I can, even if it's only making tea, or holding the baby while the mother has a shower or something. I don't invite myself along but the new parents have always been dying to show off the newborn.
I totally agree! The picture they paint is scary!

I think sometimes they can be a dramatic bunch, and just pile on for a race to the bottom and it becomes more and more exaggerated!

Completely true, 100%

BIB - It reminds me of Friends with Joey pretending to read out of Rachel's book about pregnancy and making up stuff about her hands growing in size and not shrinking back down. 😂

There’s a thread on just now about what passive aggressive things you’ve come across/done. 80% is completely made up, you know the ones, where OP comes out on top and everyone laughs at the ‘victim,’ senior members, invariably men, in the company are made to look foolish by a mere woman and yawn and yawn it goes…well, they’re all spitting their tea over their keyboards at someone who laid out some guys cutlery from their desk drawer, he’d brought it from the canteen and had omitted to take it back.
Well! She laid out about 17 pieces of cutlery on his desk, we are to believe people came from far and wide to look at this collection of knives and forks…everyone at work thought how funny it was! MN are wetting themselves over such fun…🤷🏼‍♀️ what a load of old tosh.

And getting paid a six figure salary while doing so. Everyone on MN is on a six figure salary 😉

That’s exactly what they’re like! Well, half the time.

If someone comes on saying something like ‘I’m 38, I’ve never wanted kids but my boyfriend does and everyone says I’ll miss out, what shall I do?’ They say you have to have kids, they’re such a joy, your life would be so empty if you didn’t have them.

If someone posts they don’t want visitors for a year after birth they’re told not to have any visitors because birth is so brutal and you’ll be bleeding and crying and covered in stitches and hormonal and depressed, with raw nipples and struggling to bond an unable to move.

If you post and say you regret becoming a mum/you’re struggling you’re told well being a mum is awful, boring, self-sacrificing drudgery and your an absolute idiot for not knowing that.

I know it’s called mumsnet but it’s not the best place for mums! They seem to hate all other mums and any children not their own (sometimes they hate their own as well). I’d never heard children spoken about that way before I found mumsnet.

It is such an MN thing to make a fuss of ‘our little family’ and I also always find it strange!
Some of them seem to have almost like a phobia of other people, it's quite odd. I mean I can understand having social anxiety but I'm not talking about things like being invited to group events where they might not know everyone - some of them are terrified if the doorbell rings (I remember a thread years ago where people were describing how they'd crawl along the floor or hide behind their furniture to pretend they weren't home) and see friends inviting them to do things together as a completely unreasonable imposition. That's if they even have friends and don't regard the whole concept as unnecessary drama. I think there's a handful of posters whose ideal life would be to stay in their homes 24/7 and not let their partners or children ever go out either, and the pandemic's made it worse because they actually did get to live that way for a while.

I am so glad you posted about that thread!

I read it thinking most of it is made up! The passive aggressive/petty/revenge/ ‘pretty woman moments’ threads always turn into incredibly juvenile, obviously made up stories!

And they get annoyed if someone calls them and hasn’t sent a text message first to arrange the call 😂

Yeh I didn't get the cutlery one because it would involve the whole company knowing all the backstory about this guy for it to be worth them visiting and having worked in offices that just wouldn't happen.

I read a couple pages of that post and gave up because like you said it was all balls and incredibly juvenile at that, like if that's the best they can concoct for their fantasy of putting someone in their place then that's really pathetic and shows how puerile the posters are over there.

They’re so weird and negative on there about having friends “I don’t have any friends but that’s how I prefer it, just me and the kids” or when others mention nights out “I haven’t been on a night out since DS was born 8 years ago but I would rather spend my weekends at home” I’m not the most outgoing person myself these days but if I never met up with friends or had the odd evening out to let my hair down, I think I would go a bit bonkers after a while!

There was a thread very recently about some woman who wondered if she was watching too much porn, the general consensus was no, it’s fine. A woman posts about her husband watching porn and they call him for everything! ‘It’s a dealbreaker for me!’ ‘He’s disgusting! Doesn’t he know these girls are trafficked/coerced/drugged/grape!’ ‘I hope he doesn’t have daughters!’ I can’t get my head round these people!!

It’s just a parenting competition, trying to outdo each other with who is the best parent by never socialising without their kids.
