Same as ‘what shall I order from the Chinese/Indian takeaway?’Those what to buy from Aldi and Lidl threads that crop up all the time make me roll my eyes. They see them both as curious oddities that are only used by the poor, when the reality is the quality is so good the middle classes discovered it ions ago. The Aldi near me is always full of affluent looking pensioners rather than poor families.
I mean why do you need advice on what to buy from a fucking supermarket? Just go and have a look and pick up what you like the look of and if you don’t like it don’t buy it again. Funny how you never see a what to buy from Iceland or Farmfoods thread isn’t it though?
So this MN poster wrangled an afternoon nap, AND her mother-in-law is coming to take care of the kids tomorrow? Now that's what I call a result! Cheers!Today’s post of “things that didn’t actually happen”..
‘I hate pizza. I’d rather starve’ is such a Mumsnet thing to say thoughZizzi you can get on a taste card 50% off
No way on God's green earth would I pay £75 for pizza
You can get a Chinese takeaway and wine for 4 for £75 and still be eating it for lunch/ breakfast and dinner the next day
I hate pizza . I'd rather starve
Similarly people not being allowed to complain eg ‘AIBU to ask my mum to call before she pops in as we’re TTC and she nearly caught us at it?’ ‘My mum is dead, what I wouldn’t give for her to come into my home unannounced, one day you’ll miss her doing that’.This happens on SO MANY threads and is probably my biggest mumsnet pet hate. Someone starts a nice jolly fun thread and within a few posts someone has come along and - I always think deliberately - given a miserable and extreme response which brings the thread down. Along the lines of ‘what’s your favourite colour?’ ‘I don’t have one because my entire family were killed in a freak Crayola accident and now I’m alone in the world’.
I think it’s actually really cruel.
My favourite baby name threads are the ones where people say ‘I love classic names like Victoria and Marie but they’re already in use in my family, anyone have ideas for alternatives?’ And they get replies like ‘what about river-rain, Bailey-Rae or Dandelion’.Yes exactly, that's why I found it unreal. There's a lot of idiots out there.
What are you taking about, my kid is nearly as tall as me and is still rear facing! Sure, her knees are bunched up by her chin but you can’t be too careful. She will only be allowed to face forward when she’s driving the car herself! In reality I know very few mums who still rear face their kids past the age of 2, yet EVERYONE on Mumsnet seems to until the age of 4
Yes I know it's much safer, I don't need lecturing on it.
I’m no stranger to fancy brands even if I can’t afford them, but I was flummoxed by someone naming a high end FRIDGE brand I’d never heard of. How the other half live.I am enjoying the thread that’s ‘things that are expensive but worth every penny on’
Happily ticking off the list of desperate show offs drawn like moths to a flame on there, all the usual suspects present and correct. I can’t imagine my sole validation in life being mumsnet money threads. I do love it when Londonmummy whips the wannabe lot in to the bushes though.
You just know the horses and dog set are secretly sneering at the shellac and Range Rover wannabes![]()
