There have been threads this week wanging on about Letby refusing to go to court for the sentencing, saying they would drag her in by her hair or would let the parents have 5 minutes alone with her etc etc as well as going on that Letby murdered "our vulnerable babies"
Is there no tragic story that these grief athletes won't hitch their wagon to, wringing their hands and weeping dry eyed for how sad it makes them?

There was a thread on there earlier I forget the exact title but basically she hasn't stopped crying. I just hid it without reading it. I don't know if I'm made of ice or mumsnetter are made of tears but I think they're ridiculous about this kod of thing, always arguing over who has cried the most, then ones crying and shaking and ones crying and shaking and had to wake her children up to hug them close

There’s one on there now from someone who’s got a 5 month old perfectly healthy baby. Reading the news is making her feel sick and scared to all babies and parents.
I listened to the parents’ victim statements. They were heartbreaking and I agree with the one who said they are never going to give her another thought again. MN really need to put a stop to this mawkish grief tourism.

The difference with the threads here is that people have actually followed the ins and outs of the case, it's not just a case of competing over who feels worse. There's a great deal of empathy, but also lots of humour!

Well, we have no idea how closely MNers followed the case. To an outsider it's just 'our obsessive following is better than your obsessive following'. There was definitely people on the Tattle thread crying all day and, I believe, opening champagne
. But I find all true crime enthusiasm extremely weird so it's a 'not for me' situation all over, I guess.
I am irritated by all the people wanging on about changing the law so people have to hear their sentences, and I include both Sunak and Starmer in that. Because what they really mean is that they want someone convicted of a crime to be confronted with the impact of what they’ve done and, huge though my sympathies are with victims’ families, no one can make a criminal sorry for what they’ve done simply by forcing them into a room and reading things to them. Maybe we should just cut to the chase and stick them in the stocks?
Meanwhile there are clearly massive systematic issues in the NHS around reporting and managing problems, so can politicians talk about that instead?
