I think the lack of updates to the sites is partly because users have stomped their feet so much whenever thingd change. But they should have been dragged into updating things and making it somewhat modern.

They introduced quoting, but you can only quote once and if a post has quoted someone you can't quote so it's pretty useless and a waste of time. And they have a team of technical people doing what exactly everyday?

They made it so you can't edit the quote to prevent abuse rather than making it like here and every other forum and then if someone abuses it then you can take action.

They said the edit button is a bad idea as it would make people gaslight. So silly refusing / paywalling basic features because they have the potential to be abused when any rational person would introduce them but take action if they're abused.

With “charging” - surely they’re just asking for that family’s share of the total bill which is going to be in the hundreds? It’s not as if they’re selling tickets via ticket master?

Surely offering to pay your share of a huge meal/several day affair is a completely normal thing to do? Or if the hosting family refuse money you buy them something they’d like roughly of the same value?

Yeah our family all bring small particular bits but the host (which changes every year) does the Turkey and main stuff and we all chip in £50 quid per family. Saves the host bankrupting themselves

Yep, Mumsnet pretty much is an influencer that sells themselves to brands. Wasn't it a 6 figure deal for things like having a Gordon's gin emjoi and a Cadburys chocolate bar emoji? As if those and their other content actually sold any more stuff. Similar their lucrative deals with Lidl and the crappy content they made on their barely seen by anyone channels and blog. They've been successful at hoodwinking brands into thinking they're influential.

Apparently it’s due to the amount of champagne they plan on buying which the OP can’t have as they make her designated driver,

never paid towards Christmas meals but have made puddings or brought starters.

I don't actually spend masses as my kids are pre school and even if they only get one present from everyone, that's still a tit load of plastic crap in my living room. I've probably only spent 50 between them.

Little ones is totally different I think, save your money for when they're older x

Yeah, everyone not working class just has an easy, joyful life with no problems.

There was one today where someone was asking if she was unreasonable to ask her friend not to bring her dog to her house as her daughter was scared of them. Loads of them told her she was unreasonable and she should just let the dog come and the daughter should just learn to get used to it! We're talking a two hour visit at Christmas and they thought it was worth stressing out a child in her own home because she "should face her fears" the more reasonable ones said she was well within her rights to refuse the dog and work on her daughters fears at a more appropriate time and place.

I was banned and asked for all my posts to be deleted. It’s all our right under the ‘right to be forgotten legislation’
They grumbled amount the information for new mums etc being compromised but it’s the law. I just said I feared that my information was identifying so it all had to come off especially as I had no longer the right to reply.
if all the tattlers did the same it might be fun - it is your right especially if you think there ‘might be identifying info on there’

Idk how they have the cheek to say that, especially as whenever I’ve googled anything to do with my baby it’s been SO rare to find a post post 2017? And these are the big questions eg why is poo like x, should I worry about baby coughing so much they vomit, sleep regression, blah blah blah. Some of the babies they’re speaking about in the posts Google surfaces are doing their GCSEs soon!

3 bird roasts from aldi were inspired by good old Constance shooting phesants, pigeon and quail just to make them into the avian equivalent of the human centipede centrepiece.
The kids might have duck all to open but if they're lucky they'll find a shilling in their pudding and a bullet in their pigeon.

Posts like this drive me mad! Why would a journalist care about MNs opinion on conscription. It's not likely to be happening any time soon. In fact anytime they suggest that the OP is just getting opinions or stories for a newspaper it makes me cross . Who outside MN cares what they think.
