Weird to be basically setting up a half-anorexic accountability discourse around food for themselves tbh. Can’t be healthy at all, though I imagine constantly lying about the state of your family in general can’t be healthy either

There's next to no balance on those threads and it's full of people taking the piss.

It's either

"omg you fed him two oranges?! He'll be unwell with that much sugar!"

or

"I fed my children snacks of haribo, milkybar and monster munch every couple of hours and they turned out fine. You'll give an eating disorder not giving snacks a couple of times a day"

And the smugness that their children have excellent control and regulation over junk food - they just eat a Pringle and a half and are full so stop. Despite numerous studies showing the human body seaks out high large sugar foods and it's very difficult to self regulate junk foods.

That site is so troll heavy with them encouraging new accounts and Mumsnet love the publicity from the made up (often very boring) "controversial" threads

When I used to use Tumblr, there was quite a worrying amount of people who had eating disorders due to their parents, mostly mothers controlling everything they eat, extreme portion control, no foods over so many kcal were allowed in the house and the mothers making hurtful comments such as “greedy pig” or “whale” on the child if they have had anything to eat more than a bowl of soup that day.

I now sometimes use TikTok, and the problem has never changed and I once seen a video where a girl had a panic attack because she had a pot noodle and she was terrified of her mother finding out. She even has a small safe under her bed to be able to hide food from her mother.

I don’t know why the mods on a site that is there to help mothers be the best parent they can be, would allow such a mindset to be on there. It’s not right.

They are so woke, until anything to do with trans issues rears it’s head and they show their true colours. They are so disgustingly transphobic. I have my own issues with gender identity and people identifying as either male or female without going through proper transitioning, but trans people are still human beings and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. This all stems from the hatred of men that’s is so prevalent on there, and trans women on account of them having been born male are a soft target for their bile.

I see a lot of this popping up on Reddit too. That or people talking about how expensive kids are and how less than affluent people shouldn’t have them basically

Mumsnet would probably love those discussions but obviously all well off and living in mansions

I’ve never seen anything transphobic and if something does already it’s whipped away quickly.

I think the scariest threads are the ones relating to weight and food.

Apart from the ubiquitous 'People have lost sight of what a healthy weight looks like' and 'I'd be full after a quarter slice of bread and couldn't possibly manage supper' comments, if you accidentally find your way on to the weightloss boards, you'll find things like the Intermittent Fasting topic, where there is a thread of women cheering one another on for not eating from Monday morning until Friday evening, recommending they only have water in that time because a splash of milk in coffee will be utter failure and saying they restrict to 800 calories on the days they 'crumble' and eat something. So that means that somebody is getting encouragement to consume less than one day's BMR, never mind TDEE, in an entire week (and of course they exercise throughout as well).

It's bleeping dangerous. Id say there's a significant element of it being an unmoderated pro-ANA board in all but name.

Mumsnet has so much stuff that we just wouldn't let happen on tattle. And tattle is supposed to be the worst website on the internet whereas Mumsnet sells themselves to their many sponsors as a friendly supportive community that helps parents . The only thing they ban there is something that might affect their profits. Still wondering what those 100 staff members do? Thanks to tax payers furlough for saving their website based jobs when web traffic was at an all time high

I've had nothing but friendly chat, support and been made to feel welcome on Tattle whereas I was ignored, belittled and had my posts torn apart on Mumsnet.

I like the different topics on here, whereas on Mumsnet, almost every board has mostly turned into AIBU.

The staff monthly salary was quite high, if I remember. But don't they also use volunteers to staff the boards at night too?

I tried to join a handful of times and even on my nicest behaviour I never felt safe or even welcome there and left after a few hours which as a young mum of 4 was really disappointing. I would have really benefitted from a community like that but it was so aggressive and snarky for no apparent reason. I also really struggled to find other pregnant women or mums with young children to talk to!! Most people had teens, adult children or were even grandparents and had no interest in what my cervix was doing. Sad times

Oh god I hate the ‘hobby’ stuff. Why all the secrecy around it? Unless it something really unusual it’s unlikely to identify them is it? Why not just say ‘DH plays football/cycles/runs/plays cricket insert here. It’s so pretentious and makes them feel as though they’re more important than they actually are.

I think they are liars too. They all love to tell other parents how fabulous they are all the time. As someone who lives outside London, they are all very London centric too. It's ridiculous. They pretend to be so sophisticated and cosmopolitan, yet they think anywhere outside the M25 is the equivalent of living in the Middle ages, or that there are no Black or Brown people outside London! I don't know if that is just Londoners in general, or just people on Mumsnet!

Tattle really winds up 'influencers and 'mumpreneurs' etc because they want to be able to peddle crap with no consequence. LOL. I started lurking after that woman turned up moaning to the Select Committee and thought 'this must be a good site if its putting those people in their place!

Just to add to the amount of trolls on there - you can’t get any info on a poster without paying their subscription! So you can’t see if a poster is new, has posted before etc. Although of course the name change never helped with that. Anyone can log on as anyone posting whatever and wherever there and you have no idea what they have posted before or any idea how long they have been a member of the site. It’s like they want as many trolls as possible tbh

Following this thread with interest, I always thought mumsnet was for messes? I feel like the only threads I’ve ever seen are from new partners slagging off the resident mums & absolutely delusional people pretending they’ve got wealthy husbands yet they’re quibbling over who buys the step daughter’s PJs for visits as they’re paying mum a few hundred quid in CSA as if that touches the sides. Messes the lot of them
