Relatives are able to rent off relatives and claim housing benefits.
The fact she has said living rent-free is to possibly give her room to throw them out if need be.
Quicker than if they were bona fide paying tenants.
Renting it out if she has a mortgage can be a sticking point also.

She's maybe also doing this for tax purposes as it's a 2nd property.

Her accountant would have advised her though. Maybe someone with more knowledge can correct me.

On topic. She doesn't do things out of the kindness of her heart.
She's a conwoman.

Those kids won’t be allowed anywhere near that room. They have a playroom coming with a 2500 inch TV on the wall to keep them quiet. God forbid they actually get to use any of the rooms in this house - they might make a mess!

I can't wait for all this farm dream to come tumbling down around her once Instagram and companies have had enough of her. Then she will be forced back to Greyskull and back to square one without a pot to piss in. Karma really can be a bitch at times and due to her smugness and bragging, it will come back with a vengeance.

What gets me is that moving house as an excuse to not go to a wedding is only acceptable if you buy a house and move like everyone else. I.e. you have one day that EVERYONE in the chain moves. As she’s flipping between houses and it’s obviously a close family member she can be flexible with the move date, surely! If I was SS and she used that as an excuse not to go I would be raging!! Especially (which we not they’re not) if they were true BFFs like they both make out

She’s just started following the friend SS tagged saying she had helped her with wedding flowers. She can’t leave her alone can she? Be interesting to see which of the fellow guests she’s starts following if she goes to the wedding

I think she will be at the wedding, will look like superwoman then saying how exhausting her weekend has been! I moved between 2 houses over time, didn’t have to box anything up, just drove a bit in the car each time I headed over to my new house.

Renting out a property has become a lot less lucrative since they scrapped being able to offset rental income against mortgage interest payments. You’d also have to inform your lender and buy to let mortgages are typically at higher interest rates.

We looked into it for a flat in London and we’d have barely made a profit. So she’s not giving up a lot by charging no rent.

But the stamp duty on second homes over a million is prohibitively expensive (15% over £1.5 million). Unless she registered Greyskull in someone else’s name, she’s been stung on the stamp duty front. She also couldn’t keep her mortgage on it if she transferred ownership.

She’ll also have to pay capital gains tax on any profit when she comes to sell Greyskull if it’s not her principal primary residence. I think she may have put it in her mum and dad’s name to avoid the CGT and stamp duty, and perhaps acted as guarantor for their mortgage.
