You know if people want to have alerts let them, if they don't that's fine too. But what I find offensive is the mocking of either group.
What I find super offensive is that since covid, everyone who goes against the norm group pattern is banded under tin foil/anti vaxxer/Conspiracy theorist - When it should be respected as freedom of choice.

Are we in a modern Britain or are we in a society where anyone going against the grain should be marked with an equivalent of a scarlet letter?

Mine went off at 14:59, it didn’t scare me though because my phone vibrated loudly before the alert sound. My husbands went off at exactly 15:00. We’re both with EE…he has an older model iPhone than me so maybe that’s why his went off later?

The problem is that there is a quite significant overlap between those complaining about things like this and the conspiracy theory crowd. Obviously it's not 1:1 though.

The problem is people like you thinking everyone should think like you otherwise they are " the conspiracy crowd". There is a whole other world of people who don't post on ct sites, don't post on any sites, dont believe in aliens or 5g conspiracies but who do have genuine concerns about many issues. Elderley people for one, who grew up not afraid to go against popular opinion. And grew up not wanting constant government intervention in their lives.
Concerns that apparently can't be discussed or even raised without being called some dumb name by dumb people.

I don't want "constant government intervention" either, but I don't consider a one off emergency alert test, or indeed a vaccine, to be "constant intervention".

It's possible to raise concerns without sounding like a conspiracy theorist. There were valid issues, wrt domestic violence, etc, related to this alert test. I've never said that people shouldn't complain, and if I've inadvertently implied that then that wasn't my intent.

Me and hub both on O2 (samsung and I phone) received the alert at 14.59. My Samsung tablet was in the other room but I'm 90% sure I heard that make a noise too?? They are synchronised via the calendar only so that was unexpected.

My SIL is very annoyed today. The alarm went through on her phone at 4:00 this morning and woke her and her husband up. They’re with O2

Husband and I have the same phone (google pixel 5) on the same network (vodafone) and were sat next to each other at 3pm yesterday.... he got his at 3.10pm and I didn't get mine at all. Not turned any settings off or anything, so goodness only knows what happened!

I’ve just been on my area’s Nextdoor app. There’s a lady on there who advised people to take the SIM out of their phone, turn it off, then wrap in tinfoil and put it in the microwave. She also suggested a Faraday cage (I knew the one I stashed under the sink would come in useful one day).
She was deadly serious and delighted when a couple of others smuggly joined in because “they are the ones who know what really going on”. I’d hate to live my life in perpetual fear of perceived threat.

My grandad with dementia got it first yesterday, we'd all forgotten about it. He looked at his phone and said testing something and it was over. No big panic or anything. Washing machine bleeping to say it's over is louder and way more annoying.
I refuse to believe anybody other than a very small minority of the public was adversely affected by a notification on a smart phone. If someone suffers that badly they should probably not have a phone as even with all notificiations off they still go off from time to time. Although I have empathy for anyone that does get affected like this, it must make a normal life very difficult.
Definitely all the conspiracy theorists have lached onto it and brought up vaccines and covid so only have themselves to blame for talking conspiracy theories!

I’ve also seen the 15 minute cities nonsense trotted out, along with the alarm triggering the microchip that was implanted with the vaccine.

Well, I forgot all about it and clearly didn't get the alert as nothing interrupted my Ab Fab viewing yesterday afternoon.

I'm most disappointed.

I know my phone can have alerts because it successfully received a test alert earlier this year.

I haven't read any messages where someone has mocked someone for choosing to opt out.

I do think there's lots of misplaced anger, it should be at apple and Google for building the function into phones if someone is annoyed by it. Seems a very British problem as other countries use the tools without such pushback.

Such a minor thing. I'd save my frustration for when the government is running silly ad campaigns telling people to make sure they've cooked their meat all the way through. Now that is annoying!

Apparently the last test in Germany they had for a similar alert system was the same
