I read on the news that they started planning this rollout in 2019 or something so the timing is just a coincidence. Not sure why it took so long from the planning to the test but I guess maybe there's more to it technically than you'd think. To be honest, until people started freaking out about this I just assumed there must be something similar in place already - I didn't realise the government would have had no way of notifying people if there really was a major emergency. It does strike as significant that the system is being rolled out during a war in Europe but it also seems like a system we should have had ages ago just in case in general
A new form of capitalism? So what is the point of this if it doesn't work on older mobile models? if there is an emergency all the old buggers with the out dated phones will die.![]()
The test may have been to find the flaws with older phones/networksOk but how is it going to work if....
A. it doesn't work on older phones
B. people can turn emergency alerts off
In a news article I read it said it was being rolled out because of covid due to the infrastructure not working well as it couldn't handle sending out so many text messages - they mentioned that some people didn't receive a text message about it all until 2 days later! Though i imagine something has been in the pipeline for a whileI read on the news that they started planning this rollout in 2019 or something so the timing is just a coincidence. So it never went off on phones on wifi??? I don’t have any mobile signals at my house (new build drama)Just read it only went to 4g or 5g, checked my settings and it was set to 2g and 3g so probably why i didn't get it
I will say MailOnline has been utterly ridiculous, even more than usual. I support a free presss but a world without the Mail sounds really nice.Did you all survive the phone beep. 🫠
Waiting for the reports on Mail on line about how many died and landed face down in their Yorkshire puds.
How can anyone fail to know it was happening ?
I think it’s just attention seeking tbh. I’m sure there will be more people complaining they weren’t awareHow can anyone fail to know it was happening ?
This country is swamped with the generally unaware and the scaremongering conspiracy lot.
I’ve just told someone who didn’t get it that they were being singled out as the first ones to be abducted by aliensI think it’s just attention seeking tbh. I’m sure there will be more people complaining they weren’t aware
I don’t think it’s going to work on older phones because they’re not enabled to allow the technology I guess. I read this morning that it won’t work on phones which don’t have 4G and upwards and phones which are only Wi-Fi enabled. But as you said, these things would likely be on the news or hopefully the local community would look out for each other so that everyone is aware should it go off for whatever reason. The test may have been to find the flaws with older phones/networks
I think it sort of depends on the nature of the alert too. Though presumably you have friends/family in the area that would contact you or you’d just hear it around you (assuming it’s local). If national, there’s probably a whole procedure for every channel switching to the news or some screen or something
I did but my trifle didn't it ended up on the floor!Did you all survive the phone beep. 🫠
