Hello hello, LTR, FTP - I have to say, even though I've been extremely annoyed with her for pretending to be a minimalist and such an "environmentally conscious person" while shilling Monsanto products and seemingly redoing her whole house even though nothing is particularly wrong with any of the rooms, I'm starting to feel rather sorry for her. Her eyes look empty and she seems to be barely holding it together.

She seemed a lot happier in the old cottage and a lot more like herself. Seems to me like she's not wanting to do the whole YouTuber thing any more, but she can't stop because that's her income (and, I'm sure, source of validation and ego stroking).

She did inspire me to look into veganism, so I'll be always grateful for that. But these days she's such an incongruous mess.

I also saw she only has what - 30k views on the newest video? That's pretty bad for her, she has 540k subscribers.

Hit the nail there. There's definitely a feeling of resentment with her output nowadays. The joy that came across when she lived in Brighton has completely gone.

I do feel a bit sorry for her. To hazard a guess I would say she is probably self medicating with drinking, which would explain the sudden weight gain and weird mood changes.

I guess what I've taken away from watching her is money won't solve all your problems. A bigger house with shiny things in it won't magically make you a happy or content person.

The awful-apron pictures were done when she did that stupid ad for samsung washers. Her aesthetic is so bizarre sometimes - what on earth made her think that dressing like a scullery maid in porridge coloured clothing to pretend to do laundry was a good idea? The whole thing is so staged and pretentious...ugh!

I think she's trying to crack into the whole slow-living thing as a way of rebranding herself. The problem I have with this is that when people like Madeleine start blathering on about slow-living, all I can think about is how incredibly privileged it sounds.
She has had the luxury of working for herself, at home, during a pandemic. She has been able to cocoon herself away from any risk, she can sit at home and order food and expensive homewares delivered to her door, and over all of this time she has been able to continue earning. #Slow-living is something that is easy for the wealthy/privileged to do. Can you imagine telling a low wage essential worker / healthcare worker trying to juggle work, childcare, and financial pressures that they "really need to slow down more" It's just so bleeping clueless of her.

I really really struggle to understand how her life could be any slower then it already is. Even with all the renovations, all we have seen her do is sand some beams and paint a few cupboards before she chucked a snit and decided it was all too much like hard work and they needed to pay for someone to paint ONE room. Ditto the gardens and pretty much everything else. She does appear to arrange her own flowers though so I guess that's something. Probably needs to take a nap afterwards though!

Re the Slow living/cottage core movement:

Turns out (from the comments) A Cottage Fairy lives on a house on her parents property (I rather liked her, but this does change how i see her and her content). You'reright @ChamomilePee that there is a privilege in being able to choose a 'slow living' lifestyle.

I kinda knew something was off with the cottage fairy. She keeps getting recommended so I’ve watched her here and there and got the feeling she was way too off the grid for the type of life she was living, I’d that makes sense.

This reminds me, I started watching the Fairyland Cottage YouTube channel and have generally been enjoying it. Then The Cottage Fairy came up as a suggested video and the aesthetic, tone of voice etc is exactly the same.... I had to check I wasn't watching the same person somehow, despite them living in different parts of the world and having different accents.

Of course we all do the laundry, its a part of everyday life, but as an influencer I'm not sure how helpful it is to show girls and women this sun-dappled, idyllic image of woman in dress, apron with woven basket in tow. It's all a bit Handmaid's Tale for my liking.

Those pics reminded me of The Handmaid's Tale too.
Most people juggle their laundry with (real) work, family etc. It's a very unrealistic, dated image to portray.
