Madeleine McCann #8

Didn't Tony Blair personally wade in on their behalf? Or am I misremembering.

And they got an audience with the Pope.
They didn’t have an audience with the pope, they queued up and met him like hundreds of other people, it was just massively overstated in the press and ever since so that it’s almost been written into being true, but it’s not.

in the book Madeleine, it is said that Cherie Blair who phoned Kate McCann around the 8th May 2007, seemingly Gordon Brown also contacted the McCanns, the brother John McCann in middle May, before sister Philomena lobbied UK Parliament, Gerry McCann blogs (Palamam) has a newspaper archive where you can go back to May 2007 I'm sure the info will be contained there,
as for the Pope, all Mccann related info disappeared off their Vatican website a couple of days prior to them being made arguido's!

It never fails to leave me dumbfounded when I remember that their connections to the movers and shakers went right to the top.

But they were treated as poor, rundown every day parents and had that crazy fund.

FFS.

Day - 25 - 28/05/2007
Confirmation arrived this evening that we are to attend the Vatican and a service with the Pope. It is likely we be seated in the front row and may have an opportunity to speak to the Holy Father and ask for prayers to Madeleine.

Anyone watched the channel5 programme
I did, I thought it was quite boring tbh, the voice of the actress playing Kate McCann was doing my head in especially when she was shouting, completely overacting. It was also really dark, like it was filmed in a cave, presumably to inform the viewer it was serious. Ho hum 🙄
The only thing that I learned was that Kate and Gerry had an argument the night before MM disappeared, I don't think I was aware of this before.

I've found this to be a constant problem for decades with British tv but it's got way worse since the rise of huge televisions and streaming and far too often I get really pissed off because I can't see anything. I assume at this point it is done very much to hide shoddy/cheap productions because even massive budget things like Stranger Things do it now. No point in creating an 'atmosphere' (the go to excuse of the powers that be when any are challenged on this) if people don't even know what is happening.

It looked like Kate had been dragged into a dirty old butchers shop and was getting interrogated inside a big walk in freezer, it made me feel a bit sick 😅

I disagree. I had children before the McCanns and it was not socially acceptable to leave your children unattended. None of my friends would have done it either. Yes, in the 1970s and earlier it was accepted, and perhaps at the start of the 80s, to use a listening service.
However, it has NEVER been socially acceptable to leave your children alone whilst you go down the road to a restaurant to eat.
Rubbish.

It was absolutely the case in the mid Eighties. We had a listening service in our hotel. My baby sister started crying and off I wandered out of our hotel room down to the restaurant to find my parents.

Wow pedantic much?! I said start of the 80s perhaps and you said mid 80s, fair enough. If you want to split hairs over a couple of years, fill your boots. 🙄
Your parents were still in the same building as their children, not down the street!

Well, that's true.

I didn't mean to come across as an a, just recounting my own experience.

No problem. I’ve had a crap day so I probably overreacted too. 😳
I understand entirely, not having a great time myself.

This is an emotive case. I remember the polarisation of the debate back in the day... people on certain forums would class everyone discussing it as either "Pro-McCann" or "Anti-McCann." There was batshittery on both "sides" and very little nuance or sensible debate. As well as a lot of speculation and misinformation.

I hope your week gets better for you. All the best.

This case has stuck with me since Madeleine disappeared. I check regularly hoping for this case to be solved finally. I have always thought Kate and Gerry were involved somehow. I just don't understand why anyone would leave their very young children in a hotel room, especially unlocked and in a different country! What the hell?! It infuriates me, at the very least social services should have got involved and they should have been charged with neglect. I also find it incredibly strange and sad that they washed cuddle cat, why would any parent of a missing child do that? I don't care how stinky it is, you wouldn't want to wash the scent of your child away. So many red flags with the parents. I really hope one day they is justice for Madeleine, it's the least that beautiful little girl deserves 🤍🤍

It always unnerved me how Kate spoke about Madeleine in her book, from extracts I read. Ultimately I put it down to Kate being a doctor and having that particular way of looking at the human body through that lens but it was still such weird, uncomfortable reading. I'm not implying anything sinister but some people tick so differently to the rest of us, for better or worse. I think doctors are among them, I guess it's how they manage working in that profession. Though I've met plenty of doctors who are openly very warm, idk.

Its been many years now and a family without Madeleine I think they should reinvestigate this case and begin a new appeal. Considering the case gets funded you dont hear direct from the parents Kate and Gerry on the ongoing search.

Iirc K&M stopped talking so publicly after CB's arrest. It could affect current investigations. I have some memory they were written to by german police and have stood back somewhat since then.

Here it is 'Since German prosecutors announced they have "concrete evidence" that Madeleine is dead and that Brueckner is responsible, the McCanns have remained supportive of this line of inquiry.' bbc
