People will have an opinion, which is what these threads usually discuss but you will get the odd new member who will come in to discussion, all guns blazing and announce 'guilty and death sentence' without discussing further or elaborating on the reasons behind their opinion.

Oh for sure, we had them on Star’s thread a lot.

Let's hope we don't have those who try and turn this thread into an echo chamber like Star's thread. Everyone should have their say without being chased away. Cliques always tend to ruin threads.

Candyland was entitled to her opinion just like anyone else. It’s the sheer unwillingness to entertain another point of view or at least respectfully disagree which ruins these kinds of threads.

We had a lot of good debate and discussion on Star's thread and on the whole it was well nuanced and well reasoned. The ref to candyland was just a joke sorry. He/she just refused to accept that posters had different opinions based on the evidence they had heard for themselves so it was a little tedious at times thats all.

My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular so I apologise if it came across that way. It was more the general feeling of the thread.

Every thread has posters like this 🙄 My way or the highway....

It's scary that some people feel they are able to decide if someone is guilty or innocent before the trial has even started 🤪

It didn't come across that way, no probs. I just realised after I posted that I sounded a bit witchy when it was really just supposed to be tongue in cheek. I'm looking forward to having some good discussions again once we hear the evidence (not sure looking forward to is the right term really, but not sure how else to phrase it)

I wasn't having a go at you - I just meant that every thread has someone who thinks their opinion is always right and challenges any one that doesn't agree.
I'm pleased to see there is a thread covering the trial, I've been following the case for a while

Imagine if someone with that mindset ended up on the jury!

My mum always said if she ended up on a jury she would always find them not guilty because she didn’t want to be responsible for sending someone to jail. Fortunately when she was called up she was able to opt out for medical reasons.

Whereas I wouldn’t want to be responsible for letting someone free who had the potential to commit crimes again, especially something as serious as murder. So I’d base my decision carefully from the evidence in front of me.

Yep no worries, I didn't think anyone was having a go. I think we were all pretty much saying the same thing in different ways. I just realised afterwards that perhaps my comment was a bit more witchy than I intended it to be, which wasn't very nice of me.

It's interesting isn't it as I'm a naturally curious person and would take it really seriously reviewing the evidence and making a decision, but lots of people on here have said they've been on a jury where others just want to go home or have already decided at the beginning with no evidence even heard yet. That's scary I think, regardless of whether someone is innocent or guilty

I didn’t refuse at all.. I barely read a comment on those threads. I just dipped in and said what I thought about Frankie but I’m not saying anything else about it. This is a different thread.

Fair enough. Let's move on. It was a witchy comment and uncalled for. Sorry candyland.

I was on a jury in 1999. The evidence proved that both defendants did it. But one woman said she thought the younger one had been pulled along as he was so well spoken and looked presentable. Nah on being found guilty he had a long list of convictions for a young lad. He just knew how to dress for court. Years later I met her and she was still saying he was innocent. She was discussed by the foreman when she was late due to the fact he felt she wasn’t listening to the evidence which clearly showed he was responsible.

I hope she is guilty the alternative is horrific. She's had these allegations ongoing for years, took multiple times to charge then she's been on remand in prison for 22 months then the case will take another 6 months. Someone being on remand for that long is shocking.

I agree. The press should never have been allowed to name her. Never. But, as I explained earlier, the trial delay is not the norm. She had the misfortune to be charged during the pandemic, custody time limits were extended by law and then both her defence and the prosecution asked for more time to prepare for what's probably going to be a complex case with many potential victims. I think it's an exceptional delay for an exceptional case. Let's hope the barristers involved aren't striking next week! Hopefully, we'll be able to get back to a point where it's six months from charging to trial some time in the very near future.

There's a case in the USA that was featured on a TV show I watch. Small town cases, not high profile. I checked for an update recently - the person was charged in 2014, ten years after the murder. He's still not been tried although a date has now finally been set for January next year. It's a VERY clear cut case - his DNA and fingerprints were at the scene (they were unknown to each other apart from a tenuous connection that he may have known her from where she worked) - but there's been a lot of back over whether the death penalty is appropriate for him because of his competency (not on to diminish those kind of defences when they are valid but he was certainly competent (sneaky) enough to find out where she lived, break an outside light a few days earlier, cut through a screen, climb in through a window, grape and murder her though) Now that's what you call a delay. It's unconscionable in my opinion. And it's not even that unusual over there.
