I seen someone about 5 months ago say the hospital only referred it to the police once parents started threatening to go to report the hospital to the police. I have this niggling feeling they had some sort of new machinery/medication... something new... and that's what's caused these deaths and the hospital can't admit to that for whatever reason.

Am I right in thinking senior staff and the consultants on the ward heads would have rolled for this too? I would have thought they were overseeing everything down to the last detail for the babies in their care. How did it get past them all?
I don't know. Yes, one person is in trial for murder but ultimately the COCH was neglectful, was it not? I know NHS staff, such as nurses, need to be trusted but there's also got to be safeguards in place. If LL is not proven guilty, then surely this would have to go down as gross-negligence manslaughter against the hospital. Maybe the families will pursue this regardless of the verdict.

Would have thought so think she was only a staff nurse.

So it'll start now?
Yep 👍🏼

Well, the judge will talk to the jury first, welcome them, let them know what they can expect, how the court runs, the need to avoid emotion, to view the evidence dispassionately, not to talk about it outside the courtroom, not to look at social media etc etc. Then he'll hand over to the prosecution to open their case.

You don't know she definitely did something. She's been charged but not found guilty... we don't know yet.

"In some instances, the 32 year old is accused of attempting to murder the same infant multiple times."

What the duck?? 🥺🥺
That sounds like she’s definitely done it to me 😳

I don’t envy that jury’s position 😢

Considering how many hospital scandals there have been, involving needless deaths due to negligence and incompetence, it’s actually really concerning to hear that the hospital didn’t act until the parents made a fuss. Reminds me of this story: 200 babies and nine mothers died, countless other babies left with disabilities:

My guess that human error is always more likely that faulty machinery.

You know what? I don’t want LL to be guilty. I think that’s true for so many of us. Horrific as it is, it would be easier for this to be yet another hospital-wide scandal rather than the evil behaviour of one nurse.

This is just mind boggling. It’s hard to think that someone who goes into this profession would do this, it really is and not just once but multiple times, I don’t know, I just don’t want to believe it’s true at all.

Imagine the difficulties in selecting the jury...6 months is a long time to be away from work or other duties. Lots of employers don't pay for jury duty these days.

God u just expect these people know what they’re doing 😔 so very sad

IF (saying IF) she is found guilty, I think depending on the circumstances that it might show the hospital failures resulted in a lapse of safeguarding protection which allowed someone to take the opportunity to harm patients (say if they relaxed a two staff at all times type of rule). However I don’t know if they would be held accountable in a criminal way or if there would just be resignations/improvements put in. I don’t recall seeing David Fuller’s hospital being held accountable in any way (although I haven’t followed it closely) and his crimes were horrific.

The two jurors in reserve is standard. They are normally around for the first day or so and then the judge relapses them. It's just in case someone on the actual jury gets sick or can't continue for another reason.

In a case that's scheduled to last this long, I think it would be prudent to keep them all the way through.

How would they be able to hide something of that scale from the police though? That would also be a crime in itself. For people at the hospital to lie to the police or hide/tamper with evidence etc. i think after all these years of investigation the police would uncover something like that.
