I think she wanted to carry on where she left off, with the consultants warned not to raise concerns. She never learnt to back off and lay low when the death rate rose and she was taken off nights. She attacked baby Q the shift after baby P. If she had some self control she might have got away with it.Haven’t posted much recently but have been following along. I wonder if the NHS will have to set up a compensation scheme for the babies yet to be confirmed, like they have done with other large scale fk ups? Also, what the hell was she planning to do on return to work? Stop harming babies and act smug? Lay low for a while then resume the killings? Come back “with a bang”and do as much harm as she could because she was effectively untouchable? Use the information she shouldn’t have been party to, to scapegoat someone else? Get reinstated and obtain a glowing reference to take her evil somewhere else? I don’t understand why she was hellbent on going back to that unit.

Wish I could find data from before 2010- to see if it was 1 death or lower. It jumping to 3+ basically as soon as Letby got a foot in the door in 2011 onwards, skewering the “norms” like Dr Breary etc said
My take fwiw is a few things with letby desperate to get back on the unit.
1) She’s first and foremost a psychopath and was completely out of control and was desperate to get back on the unit so she could continue her spree, her ego was such she thought she was home and dry with so much going on behind the scenes that she was privy to ( patient safety desk job ) her bf feeding her info and management keeping her in the loop.
2) Her batshit parents pushing her to keep the heat on the hospital on the basis that “ she’s done nothing wrong “ she can’t just drop it and slope off somewhere new, she’s got to fight it.
3) She would need references no doubt ? That could put a massive spanner in the works.
4) I don’t think she’s remotely logical in her disordered thinking - she kept a massive amount of evidence where she could have destroyed the lot.
5) She was revelling in the whole situation and feeding off it - she needed it back.

Hope it's OK but I've taken the liberty of highlighting in your post what her likely plan was. Whether guilty or not her career as a nurse was over if she didn't get back on the unit. She couldn't move anywhere else until she had been thoroughly exonerated - her record would have had to be shared with any potential new employer. If it wasn't shared it would have come to light and there would have been consequences.Haven’t posted much recently but have been following along. On the recent police interview, Mr McDonald said: "Lucy voluntarily attended an interview; she was not arrested.

It’s weird but the highlighted bit is something that only occurred to me very recently but does seem most likely to me. We know she was engineering visits and training at other places whilst at her desk job.
I’m probably way off the mark with this but I do wonder if her parents had some financial tie to her house as well. I know she was on full pay for a while but if they had sunk savings into it and/or were guarantors they could stand to lose a lot of money if she lost her job. Hope they did
