My reckoning is that even the defence experts couldn't justify a more likely natural explanation for each episode of death or harm, in babies that were otherwise mostly doing OK. So they'd have been torn apart by the prosecution.
The first thing the prosecution proved was that there was deliberate harm, the second thing was that it was Letby causing it.
If it wasn't Letby, then the Innosimps (and the hospital) still have to explain how so many babies came to unexpectedly die or suffer harm on that ward.
I am going to steal that word! Innosimps is just perfect!

Why is it seen as appropriate / acceptable for Letby’s new lawyer Mark McDonald to court the press and doing interviews on TV? Ben Myers isn’t doing it. McDonald just seems really unprofessional to me.

It seems like he has taken on her case on because wants the limelight for himself.

He isn't being paid. He's either doing it out of the goodness of his heart or has some other agenda.

It's what he does. He's been stalking the Criminal Cases Review Commission for 15 years over Ben Geen. He even took them to court for not sending Geen back to the Court of Appeal. This failed - like all his attempts to free Geen

When I heard his interview with Dr David Bull I thought he came across quite ignorant and not on the level of NJ or BM. David Bull was massively frustrated with him.

Sorry if this has been covered in previous threads but what are the thoughts regarding Letby taking the stand herself? I'm thinking this was against the advice of counsel. They could not stop her doing it and the necessary disclaimers will have been signed. Knowing what we do now about her massive ego (evidenced by the triumphant emails and messages when she thought she had won) it seems the kind of thing she would do. Having called no other witnesses for cross-examination (other than the plumber whose evidence was largely irrelevant) I can't see this being the idea of the defence.

In this interview he comes across as a fool. He thinks it is ok to compare Letby to Birmingham but you can't compare her Harold Shipman

He's a Court of Appeal troll. Keeps trying to take the same cases back again and again.

Apologies if this has already been said - but there’s no public attendance at all at the inquiry this week, including press I assume. Instead a transcript will be made available in due course. They seem to be quite good at updating the Thirlwall website with records and documentation- so hopefully it won’t be too long!

yes the transcripts are usually next day (after a full days hearing) but Fridays went up Friday afternoon, I guess because it was such a short session.

I did read on the thirlwall website that the families will meet with Lady Thirlwall in private away from the other core participants and media, but they will be streaming the audio into the main court. However it’s not allowed to be broadcast and I’m not sure if media are allowed to do live updates or wait for the transcript.

Yes the next one open to the public is on the 26th September, so I'm guessing that will be when we next get live feed.

I think arrogance and narcissism! Killers like Letby think they can manipulate the jury in the same way they manipulated those around them whilst they committed their crimes. But it rarely works fortunately.

Just my opinion, not sure if there are any expert theories on this.

Two minutes in Mark Mcdonald, Lucy Letby’s new barrister actually says none of the babies had a post mortem following their death !!! What ?? I'm I missing something, how can he say this? When all except baby E did. Surely he knows the basic facts of the case.

Didn't actually notice the clip was from August 2023, hopefully he's better informed now.

I couldn't listen to all of it McDonald sounds very stupid. Trotting out the 'long line' if nurses that have gone before her then saying de Berk, Geen and Norris. The stupid man has been trying for years to win appeals for Geen and Norris but they remain guilty and remain in prison. He clearly isn't great at his job

Maybe taken on Letby as needs more donations to continue the "fight" for Geen and Norris.
