There is... but not in the way they are suggesting.

The issue in the Post Office scandal was that the post office inspectors had powers of prosecution, and that for reasons of internal politics and prestige they chose to ignore the warning signs, even when they were aware of potential problems.

All of which has echoes within what has been said in this inquiry... so far.
Yes there was a cover up to protect Letby not use her as a scapegoat as the conspiracy theorists are suggesting.

I cannot believe how long it took the Nursing & Midwife Council to get the interim order against her. For those not following live, they believed that her bail conditions stopped her from working in a health care setting, but her bail conditions only stopped her working with babies and children. It was only when they realised that this wasn’t the case that they tried to intervene. But they couldn’t get one out against her because she hadn’t been charged.

Three years after the initial death, the NMC requested documents from the Trust in regards to evidence against Letby and the Trust refused! They only got the interim order against her when she was formally charged.

So much red tape and bureaucracy!

Voluntary erasure! Bloody cowardly, Harvey! Throw the book at him 😡

I’m struggling to listen today, but the bits I’ve managed to hear here and there - Jaysus that Ian Harvey is an absolute fucker. What a piece of tit 🤡

Who is exactly is Dr Noname/Dr U? Because I thought he was Dr A? Is he a different doctor that she had a close personal relationship with as well?
Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm just a bit confused and I haven't always been able to keep up with the pace of the earlier threads 😂

It’s the same person. The appeal judgement and inquiry are using Dr U now. I’m guessing to separate him from baby A.

I think there was Dr V, Dr W too in the appeal judgement.

Tomorrow we are hearing from the KC’s on behalf of the families, COCH, Nursing and Midwifery Council,
Department for Health. Might have missed another one but the others will be Friday.

I don’t know what that will look like. Apart from the families, will the others take a defensive position? This part seems to be equivalent to opening statements in a criminal trial.

apparently he moved to France which is no surprise
He probably thought he would be safe from investigation there. They are such cowards, they royally ducked up and they will all be blaming each other and trying to wriggle out of it instead of being honest and owning their mistakes
---
Just thought, would this inquiry have any access to their emails etc, if there were email threads just between management that might incriminate them but have been deleted?

I’m just remembering when we all thought Dr NoName would look like Curly Watts or Mr Bean and then we found out we weren’t actually that far off 🤣

As far as I know they would do, seeing as it’s a Statutory Inquiry

Feel like that’s doing Mr Bean and Curly W a disservice tbh 😶

Thank god it’s a statutory inquiry. Madness to think it nearly wasn’t. Most of these people would have refused to be involved if they thought they could!

I think it will shake up management teams across the whole NHS especially if prosecutions follow.

You seem to have an obsession with what you believe the unit did wrong. At the end of the day, it's a fairly unprecedented situation. We can see from today how many chances were missed and they mainly come from a management level. You seem to be more miffed at the unit than the baby murderer...
I’m “obsessed” with the unit because it’s the thing that be changed in the future. You’ll never change the fact there are people like Letby out there, there always have been and always will be - all you can do is learn from mistakes and try to make sure it’s spotted next time. Which is what I’ve fairly consistently said over the past few days despite people being determined to paint me as defending Lucy.

ETA: and to be honest I’m not sure why people are so obsessed with Letby being the only problem and defending a unit and wider people who clearly behaved very poorly themselves and potentially allowed her to go undetected for longer - and added to the parents pain by meaning the first they found out of collapses and incidents was from the police which is just vile.

I don't think people are defending anybody who isn't a paediatric consultant or registrar!
