Ngl was thinking this would be NG till cross exam. I couldn’t have said beyond reasonable doubt until….
The -prosecution- defence witness miss LL took the stand…
I was 95% sure she would get NG now I think I’m 80% of guilty… hope

Can you imagine booking yourself into a hotel in Manchester and giving the name Letby? At least last time there was still room for the delusion that she wasn’t guilty. Now, not so much. I think if I were her family, I’d consider changing my surname. I’ve never come across any Letby’s before this , it’s a pretty stand-out name and not for good reasons

Well that was interesting … she was again quite cocky with johnson … hate hate hate+++
Didn’t recall anything what could implicate her … johnson was arguing this a lot … like did she think dr j was lying etc and he was questioning her about pulling the tubes out of baby k… and he said somert like “oh cos ur not the type of person to do that are u” xx

I was privy to sit in the main court for the last bit … some discussions between the judge n barristers and judge said would letby want to speak to her council b4 or after dinner …. “I want to do it now” she said …, she’s quite bossy !!! IMO

she does look more Haggered than last year I think …probably doing her head in that she hasn’t been able to hurt or kill for a long time …. I don’t think they can find her anything but guilty !! Johnson hit nail on head when he said she only isn’t recalling being there for these collapses cos it’s a lie to try cover up she was caught red handed!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience of the court again, it’s interesting to hear what goes down that isn’t evident from the reporting. Hopefully next week will see a swift GUILTY verdict. Did Dammit Janet have her conehead husband with her?

I went and am going again!

Lots of NG nutters, probably at least 2/3 men.

I managed to get into court 7 before lunch. Lucy briefly looked at me as I went in but didn’t make eye contact.

She answered her own barrister well, but that was easy enough. I got the impression he was asking lots of unimportant questions to drag it out. As always, she was confident, serious and authoritative. She came across as a professional witness rather than a defendant, and I remember last year when I very first heard her and assumed for a couple of minutes she was a policewoman giving evidence.

But she switched to being very snappish and curt when it was Nick Johnson’s turn.

Lucy performed somewhat better this time: she was less impulsive, and did less asking of stupid, pointless questions to avoid answering. She did still pretend to not understand the question a couple of times when it was obvious what BNE was getting at. Lucy took her time answering questions, clearly trying to figure out where NJ was going so she could avoid painting herself into a corner. “I don’t recall” is back, and she was trying her utmost to be non-committal. She refused to commit to saying that Dr Jayaram was lying, instead claiming she doesn’t remember.

She did give a good answer for why she always acted like dr J’s account was factual in police interviews: she said she assumed it must be verified because the police were saying it, and that she was trying to fill in the gaps and provide explanations. She was very consistent with this answer despite NJ constantly needling her about it. These answers were long and full instead of evasive. Not that I believe her, I feel that she has come up with this answer in the year between the trials.

BNE wasted no time in getting her to state that displacing a breathing tube from a baby of this gestation was deadly. Lucy was very evasive and took a long time to get there, but he made sure she did. This is important because if the jury believe she did dislodge the tube, her accepting that it was lethal fulfils the intent to kill requirement of the charge.

Also at the beginning when Lucy was repeatedly claiming she doesn’t recall the baby, and can’t answer why she searched for the parents’ surname two years later, NJ said that the baby didn’t have a name yet before leaving the CoC hospital, implying this is why she only had a surname to search for. This led to Lucy saying “I think she did have a name”, immediately after claiming she didn’t remember her! Nick Johnson tried to draw attention to this with prolonged silence, but I don’t think it was effective and I wish he’d pulled her up on it.

I was about 20ft away from Letby on the same floor level, so could judge her height. She’s actually average height, about 5’5”. She is also somewhat curvy rather than slim. I thought she had gained weight in the hearing in April, but she was wearing a too small jacket back then and her double chin makes her look large. She’s definitely not large in real life. She was wearing a very nice outfit that was super flattering. Her hair is very light brown and slightly longer than depicted in the new court drawings, about to her lower chest.

Her profile now looks quite strange. The way her chin is becoming one with her neck makes her lower face look even more recessed, compared to her prominent nose and deep-set eyes.

Her police interview snippets were played, and it was a stark contrast with how attractive and fresh-faced she looked six years ago compared to now.

She’s still blinking, but she did that when silent during her leave to appeal hearing. It’s not a body language thing, it’s just something her eyes do.

I feel sorry for her friend Janet Cox. She’s only guilty of being loyal and gullible. I suspect Lucy cultivated trusting or vulnerable friends for herself. I didn’t see Lucy acknowledge Janet during court.

Back to legal business, Ben Myers was FURIOUS about NJ bringing up the other baby with tubes displaced immediately following Lucy’s care, saying it was prejudicial and jury should be told to discount it. He was almost shouting at Judge Goss about it.

NJ said the defense had introduced it themselves last week (I believe as an example of nurses caring for babies not their own?) so they are entitled to question it. NJ stopped asking questions about it after that, and Judge Goss will decide how to instruct the jury (I think - I was in satellite court 16 by then and struggling to follow the audio).

The Letby fans deserve their own post, but that’s all for now, I need a couple of hours sleep before court! I need to get there as early as possible to be one of the handful let into court 7. Both the guilty and not-guilty observers believe the earliest arrivers should be entitled to go in first.

Oh and she talks in present tense about what happens in the CoC neonatal unit, as if things are still the same 8 years later (I think it’s even been demolished?). She talks in present tense about nursing practices/ procedures for baby care etc as though she’s still an active expert.

Floored at the BIB. Can't believe she's finally decided to dress well at the start of a whole life order.

I thought I had read somewhere she had gone with her husband but I stand corrected if it was a friend of hers. I just naturally assumed she didn’t have any tbh !
