Not sure about parents but lawyers generally have a room where they go during breaks/can wait/do some work etc that’s away from the general public!

Now I’m wondering if Letby waits at the court just in case there’s a jury decision…or if she’s just plonked in prison til they decide?

Back then there wasn't the social media there is now so you just had your own thoughts and those of people close to you. Now with so many people saying stupid things on social media this doesn't help in creating some anxiety about the outcome.

I wondered if she would be in a holding cell at the court but thinking about it (after a glass of wine) I think she'll be at the prison and only brought back for sentencing.

I think they would have to have a very good reason not to be at court for the verdict/sentencing. I remember Emma Tustin (little Arthur’s killer) refused to come up to the dock during sentencing, the coward.

What does the judge do whilst waiting? Doesn’t sit there surely? So what the process- they all go in, he send them off to deliberate, and what do the public do, parents etc? Sit in the court and wait?

Where would all the families wait if they are waiting at court, do they have a room they all sit in? And presumably the barristers have their own rooms at court? So they can all be ready when the jury is done? I am loving the idea of Letby sitting in a cell all day all by herself, just waiting.

There’s a big room for the families with a screen in the court in manc they can choose to stay downstairs and watch or come up to the court room

Parents go down to their room, public can either sit in the courtroom or the corridor. The judge I have no clue where he goes but I know he’s in the building

Claire Scanlon just yesterday wouldn’t come up for her sentencing either that was at the other Manchester crown court to the one Letbys been tried in, Minshull Street I think it’s called. She got 18 years.

Some of the KCs are on other cases, there is one that’s defending one of the ‘tiktok trial’ 8 Sanaf Gulamastafa in Leicester and also defending Craig Crouch at Derby.

Thomas Cashman, who murdered Olivia Pratt-Korbel, didn't attend his sentencing. Don't know if this has already been said.

I think they should be forced to attend.

Me too. I like to think of the parents all getting to know each other and supporting one another too.

He’ll be working hard for the crown, hearing other cases - not necessarily trials but dealing with shorter directions appointments and maybe sentencing ( a directions hearing is one where the court orders the timescales that certain things have to be done in- in order to get ready for trial)
He may also have half an eye if he gets time on consulting the sentencing guidelines to look at the different scenarios on this case.
Or he could be reading Tattle . My money is on that one

I'm.glad the parents have a room. And I'm delighted that Letby has to go to court every day and sit cooped up in a cell awaiting her fate. Lots of time to think about what she did. Hope the time is really dragging for her.

Ah ok - The agents room sounds like the equivalent of what I’ve always known to be a robing room. They’re usually quite large with a massive table, lots of chairs and everyone’s briefs ( case papers , not y fronts ) and bags. In reality you rarely put robes on unless it’s barristers in crown court or solicitors or barristers doing a committal ( ie someone naughty getting sent to prison for breaching an order) in a county court. Even in our civil high court counsel don’t tend to wig and gown now. I’ve not practiced since 2013 now but that was my life for 19 years…no wonder I’m rocking in the corner and reading Tattle

haha yes that sounds the same! We do still have to take instructions from clients in the corridors etc but that’s certainly where the lawyers would be waiting for verdicts!

I would think the court has a holding cell. She’ll likely be brought every day and be sat down there waiting for the verdict but if anyone who practises in E&W knows it’s different from Scotland I’m sure they’ll have a better answer!

It looks like someone pretending to smile really intensely but way overdoing it. A sort of weird uncanny insincerity that’s almost convincing but not. It does look highly creepy but then again I have a lot of photos that make me look like a crazed assassin too…
