Thanks for new thread Tofino, just casting my guilty vote. Can't believe jury will finally go out on Monday and that we've all been here now for 9 months.

The judge summing up is already impressive. It must be quite a challenge for a complex case where he’s heard all the evidence for the first time alongside the jury. He’s also had to piece together ‘this is what the prosecution say’ and ‘this is what the defence say’ when the evidence has been months apart.

I've been struggling to keep up with these threads, so not sure if this is like asking how long is a piece of string, but once the jury start their discussions how long might it be until a verdict is reached? Do they have a time limit or does it just keep going until they reach a firm decision?

I am feeling a real sense of relief reading Judge Goss's summing up. It feels like the grownups are back in charge, if that makes sense.

The judge says Letby has no previous convictions. He says it is entirely for the jury to attach the weight of the defendant's previous character.

Letby had said she had cared for hundreds of babies, and that hurting a baby was completely against everything a nurse is.

Colleague Christopher Booth "confirmed" she was "conscientious, hard-working, and willing to help", and another colleague said Letby would "remain friends" with the parents of babies on Facebook.

Eirian Powell said Letby was "an exceptionally good nurse".

Letby had a "passion" for working in the intensive care side, and "staff knew" she enjoyed that side of care.

The judge says Letby's health was good, and she did not take time off work in 2015-2016. She was "flexible", living at Ash House [accommodation at the Countess], then at a flat between 2014-2015, then back to Ash House until April 6, 2016, to Westbourne Road, Chester.

Letby was "often asked to do more" than the required number of shifts per month.

She was "devastated" when taken off clinical duties in 2016. She had "prided herself" on being very competent.

Letby registered a grievance in September 2016. It was at that time she learned she was being blamed for the deaths, and that that was "sickening", and her mental health "deteriorated".

She was arrested at her home in July 2018. She was interviewed, then moved to Hereford to be with her parents. A search was conducted of her Chester home.

Yes i think having the side by side comparisons for each of the salient points will be super helpful and really give them a clearer idea of who they find more compelling and reliable. Fro just little things the judge has said, I already feel he thinks she is guilty without expressly saying it

Posted as the last thread locked. How is everyone feeling now the verdict is so close to coming? I'm praying for a guilty verdict for all the families so they can get justice.
I don't know how much I'll be able to follow today as in a and e with mini Caledonian as he's not putting on weight as he should despite constantly feeding and he's very sleepy so much so I'm struggling to wake him for feeds (13 yesterday and had to wake him for 9 of them 😢)

The arrest "traumatised" Letby, she said.

A defence statement was confirmed by her on February 11, 2022.

The judge says some of it differs from the police interviews.

He refers to his next legal direction, on the defence statement.

He says if the jury find "a material difference" between the two statements, the jury are entitled to ask themselves why.

He says the defence say the task was made more difficult by the delays in bringing the case, and the volume of evidence served.

He says if the jury are sure there is a 'material difference', and they do not believe the defandant is telling the truth on the reason for those differences, then that should be in support of the prosecution case.

He says the jury must not convict on the basis of those changes alone.

The judge refers to delays in the case.

He says the jury should take into account the passage of time since the events, and the impact that might have on the witnesses and the defendant in recalling them

Hope the little Caledonian is ok - has he been checked for a tongue tie? Hope you get it sorted asap and don't have too long to wait.

With the verdict so close, I mostly feel relieved right now. I was actually elated when BM wrapped up his nonsense closing. But I know as soon as they go out I'll be incredibly anxious.

I think it would’ve been good if BNE could have pre-empted BM by saying “he’s going to imply these babies were at death’s door but here are the statistics to show expected survival rates for babies of this gestation without major congenital abnormalities. And here are the commonest complaints they will overcome on the way…” That way the jury would be focused on the fact most babies fight through these challenges, including the ones BM has tried to pass off as signs of decline when LL wasn’t there.
The chest drain stuff is just being manipulated to bamboozle the jury imo, same as the stoma care.
I have had a few wobbles this week wondering if BM has played it well enough to the jury to give reasonable doubt. Just got to hope they can see the wood for the trees. When I was feeling pessimistic I was wondering about op hummingbird. I just can’t see them funding three more years of investigation and another trial if she gets NG this time. I think it’s all or nothing.
Just to reassure you BNE did actually say something similar to this in his summing up in court. He said something along the lines of ‘the defence are going to try and convince you that these babies were extremely poorly and in a lot worse condition than they actually were, I ask you to remember the evidence that has been given by witnesses and medical experts,’. I am paraphrasing but it was definitely along them lines.

Hello all by the way, another new to posting but not new to reading follower here. I follow the case over a lot of different media’s and although I am a member or lots of the FB groups I may not be a nutter.. well possibly 🤣
